Beshear brings alot of those same qualities in terms of 'not a scary minority lady from the Democratic People's Republic of Kalifornia', as did Roy Cooper.

Shapiro is kind of the opposite to me. Actually more centrist than Walz (maybe not Beshear?) but doesn't come off as a normal guy in the way Walz/Beshear do and seems much more like a scary east coast liberal. He really reads 'politician' to me. Even though Beshear is just as much of of a career politician, he plays the normal guy a bit better.

I get the same feeling. Shapiro gives off "professional politician dork" vibes to me similar to Mayo Pete.

There was also all the confusion generated by the Philly Mayor's endorsement of Shapiro as VP. So how many of those edits are fueled by misinformation based on that?

It's an interesting indicator, though it's worth noting that Harris still hasn't met all the candidates in person - so while they may be leaning one way, they probably haven't yet made a decision.

Each state has its own schedule. The earliest one was Ohio, which may or may not be August 7th. The next batch are August 31/Sept 1. Then there are some late September deadlines and a few beyond I think.

Mostly true.

Ohio used to have a deadline of August seventh, but the legislature fixed that in May.

After the debate, various Democrats made noise about having the delegates vote remotely, ahead of meeting in Chicago, ostensibly because they can’t trust the Ohio legislature to act in good faith, but also to lock in Biden as the nominee.

At this point, the Democrats are still going to do the remote vote, but the earliest actual deadline as of Ohio fixing their poo poo is something like the twentieth.

You absolutely cannot trust the Ohio legislature to act in good faith, they're a bunch of ratfucking shitheads of the highest degree.

I was looking up the vote by mail ballot application last night and they won't even process requests until October, which is a month later than they did in 2020. They also no longer let you request VBM ballots for every election in the year (primary+general) like they used to, you now have to send a request for each one. It's not quite as bad as Georgia's "enter the name of the voter you wish to purge" website but they're definitely doing their best to enshitten the process.

I mean I agree, insofar as the Democrats have more to gain than to lose by holding an early remote vote for Harris.

The Republicans though can probably ditch Vance as late as the twentieth and still get someone else printed on ballots. Ohio will not ratfuck the GOP.

Yeah it's this. Shapiro's the current hot topic because of his baggage while everyone else isn't:

https://x.com/politico/status/1819910315489837233?t=DvsUJuwODPXWWCZvsBI_Vg&s=19

Walz et al aren't getting criticized by extremely online lefties/progressives, it's just Shapiro catching a lot of that flak due to the weird (it is) IDF volunteer work and various other "Straight Mayo Pete" vibes he's giving off. Also how obvious of a pick he'd be when home state VP nominees could get you +2% and PA is very close to the whole ballgame.

Shapiro clearly occupies the best office. It’s the man himself that makes it anything other than a shoe-in.

The other governors are neutral. People draw a distinction between the blue state and red state governors over perception of liberal/moderate bent, but in either case, the selection of any one of these governors would not be a factor pushing their states over the line.

Kelly is actively disadvantaged by his office. Democrats do not want to see him leave that Senate seat. I was going to put a joke here about cloning him, but he actually has an identical twin. The problem isn’t that cloning is nonviable, but that politics doesn’t work on anime rules.

Oh right. Buttigieg exists. I think that he would be a bad choice and that his office disadvantages him. Buttigieg was the public face of some less glamorous events in the Biden administration, and he’s vulnerable to attacks about what he knew about Biden’s condition. Harris herself already faces these issues; a second helping is not advisable.

Greenberg, 27, was found by her fiancé, Samuel Goldberg, in the kitchen of their Manayunk apartment with a 10-inch knife lodged in her chest on Jan. 26, 2011.

Investigators on the scene treated her death as a suicide because the apartment door — which Goldberg said he broke down — was locked from the inside, there were no signs of an intruder, and Greenberg had no defensive wounds, police have said.

But the next morning at the autopsy, then assistant Philadelphia Medical Examiner Marlon Osbourne discovered a total of 20 stab wounds to Greenberg’s body, including 10 to the back of her neck, and ruled her death a homicide.

Police publicly disputed the findings and Osbourne later changed his ruling to suicide, with no explanation to Greenberg’s parents.

Everything else appears to be legal poo poo, like if the medical examiner can be overturned, how that matters for estate stuff, and the "who decides" in questionable circumstances.

RFK Jr. does not have a healthy relationship with animals.

https://www.cnn.com/2024/08/04/politics/rfk-jr-bear-central-park/index.html posted:

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. said in a social media video on Sunday that he drove a dead bear cub carcass from upstate New York and placed it in New York City’s Central Park 10 years ago, sharing the story in what he said was an effort to combat a forthcoming New Yorker article he predicted will be “a bad story.”

In the video, which was posted to his X account, Kennedy tells actress Roseanne Barr about traveling through New York’s Hudson Valley to go hawking and coming across a “young bear” that had been hit and killed by another driver. He says in the video he decided to put the dead bear in his car.

“I pulled over and I picked up the bear and put him in the back of my van because I was gonna skin the bear,” he said. “It was in very good condition and I was gonna put the meat in my refrigerator.”

Kennedy then tells Barr he spent the day hawking before driving to New York City for a dinner — with the bear still in his car. At the end of the dinner, Kennedy said, he had to go to the airport and couldn’t take the bear back to his home. He said he broached to friends the idea of taking the bear to Central Park and making it appear as if a biker had hit it.

“I had an old bike in my car that somebody had asked me to get rid of and I said, ‘Let’s go put the bear in Central Park and we’ll make it look like he got hit by a bike,’” Kennedy says in the video, prompting laughs from Barr and others in the room not visible in the video. “Everybody thought, ‘That’s a great idea.’ So we did that and we thought it would be amusing for whoever found it or something.”

Kennedy said the bear’s discovery appeared on “the front page of every paper,” drawing wide media coverage and prompting investigations from law enforcement, which he said “worried” him because he’d left behind fingerprints. Kennedy suggested he was not blamed for the incident at the time.

“Luckily, the story died down after a while and it stayed dead for a decade. The New Yorker somehow found out about it, and they just — they’re gonna do a big article on me. … So they asked me, the fact checkers,” he said.

Kennedy suggested the upcoming story would portray him in a negative light.

“You know, it’s gonna be a bad story,” he said while laughing.

It would make sense that he got the brain worm from the bear meat, but the deposition where he claimed the worm predates this incident.
