Maybe they're doing the same thing as Trump, and waiting until the last minute to make the final pick. Though in this case, there's actually a good reason due to the very compressed vetting timeline. Trump was just an idiot in not making a well thought out decision.

There was a story on the Behind the Bastards episode about RFK2 that was amazing. So apparently after RFK1 died, RFK2 and his cousins/friends were running around town. They would smack a car on the quarter panel as one of the kids pretended to be hit. The rest would scream “oh my god you killed another Kennedy!”

He's apparently loved hawking his entire life and used to do it constantly at a livestock corpse disposal pit because that's just a thing one does. For reasons.

We were robbed of John McAfee 2024. Imagine if we could say that DJT was only the third weirdest guy running. And then play a clip of Biden in the debate and tell the people of the future “He was the fourth.”

. A substantial chunk of RFK's apparent support comes from the fact that Kennedy died right in the moment that the formative Boomers were old enough to remember it happening, but not old enough to seriously examine if he deserved that worship. JFK, aside from Cuba, is an indifferent president who had some minor successes and also got the Vietnam train rolling (though LBJ gets the credit for committing, I think).

He also gave some very impressive speeches which is like 80% of looking like a good president.

JFK, aside from Cuba, is an indifferent president who had some minor successes and also got the Vietnam train rolling (though LBJ gets the credit for committing, I think). I'm currently listening to the Pentagon Papers and it is completely changing a lot of my knowledge and the conventionally taught Public School History of Vietnam. The 'JFK was gonna get us out" seems to be a myth created after JFK's death. It seems predicated on a flawed paper plan that the RVN would stabilize and establish it's own security by 1965. The plan was formally abandoned after JFK got schlopped, but had been abandoned by the DoD/State/Relevant people by mid 62. Kennedy doubled conventional report each year he was in office, and nearly tripling clandestine/covert assets annually. There seems to be no real indication he had any plans to withdrawal, just made the same complaints that Ike did as he expanded the US involvement in French Indochina. I've read dozens of books on the war, and taken College courses on the war. The Pentagon Papers are completely changing a bulk of what I knew about the war. Weirdly, The Pentagon Papers has been a loving emotional exercise, because it isn't hindsight historians, it's contemporary documentation, and it's loving maddening. They predicted exactly what would happen. It's like watching one of your smart friends read the manual, watch videos of the outcome, and still stick their hand in the bear trap they just set up themselves. Sorry, Dave's Lemonade and a Frosty.

bulletsponge13 posted:An Good Post I think you'd really like Why we Lost by Daniel Bolger. I read it prior to diving into Vietnam War era history and the parallels between Iraq/Afghanistan and Vietnam are startling. Worlds decidedly most powerful military gets pantsed by plucky third world country because the political leadership is flat out ignoring the smart people they pay or (worse) paying smart people to tell them absolute nonsense. Personally, I've never bought into the narrative that JFK was ever going to bail on Indochina, but I think LBJ gets, rightfully or wrongfully, his deserved credit. Ike started it, JFK made it worse, and LBJ quintupled down. OddObserver posted:He also gave some very impressive speeches which is like 80% of looking like a good president. Also this. Collective boomer memory seems to drive a lot of political and economic decisions today, but the rise of social media should erase any sort of collective memory aside from pop culture and marketing. No one will remember Obama or Trump soundbites speeches when they could watch something from Logan Paul or other influencers because the former don’t get airtime/views. President Kardashian or Logan Paul is more within our lifetimes than we realize.
