The language of the bill itself or the reporting thereupon?

Because that's rarely all that great. It hasn't hit the aba journal yet and I don't feel like giving it any more than a skim.

The term "opaque algorithm" means an algorithmic ranking system that determines the order or manner that information is furnished to a user on a covered internet platform based, in whole or part, on user-specific data that was not expressly provided by the user to the platform for such purpose.

a simple answer is it would prevent serving up the mobile version of websites to phones until they click the mobile version link
it would also apply to other autodetected things like language and geo-ip lookups
like the gdpr, it would also result in a page blocking popup asking you to approve their use of everything that they were using pre-law instead of making companies change anything
the good part of gdpr is being able to request the data on you the company has and requesting they delete it, not that they tell you to give them permission to collect it

even taking these dumb edge cases at face value, i would absolutely prefer having to press a button to switch from mobile to desktop mode to algorithmically wrecked search results

but this law isnt about storage of pii or keeping it safe or any of the good things in the gdpr, its about search results not having enough conservative sources making conservatives upset

i'm sure it's partly conservatives mad about that, but the other impetus for it is that people don't realize that facebook is a skinner box that uses opaque selection algorithms to make its users as ignorant and angry as possible, and facebook shouldn't be able to pretend that's not what they're doing. this is the spirit of it that people like. (whether this implementation addresses that, or any implementation could, i don't know enough to say.)

lol no not even fuckin close

When you get past the definitions and exemptions and to the meat of the proposed law it says "yeah you have to offer a choice between opaque and transparent feeds" and geolocation is explicitly allowed for in the definition of an input-transparent algorithm which is right above what you've pasted

I was thinking about the notices that say "our european visitors can go gently caress themselves are important to us, but" displayed by sites that choose to be pissy little bitches about gdpr instead of just allowing you to reject cookies

[ASK] me about OS/2 Warp

if you dont have a market for your product in gdpr nations, it saves you web traffic to do the former over the latter, and ensures a higher tracking rate if you dont allow cookies to be opted out of.
