Arena's is a good way to learn the game mechanics without the chaos of BR third parties and stuff.

I always seemed to get my rear end kicked in the few ranked BR matches I’ve been in solo. I played a couple of as a party with goons from discord right when I started playing again and that was a bad idea.

Arenas has definitely made me better a shooter, though that hasn’t transferred to better success in BR, kinda excited for ranked Arenas though.

Edit: one of the other things I don’t care much about is W/L or K/D ratios. If I’m not having fun I’ll go throw sticky bombs at cops in GTA.

Edit 2: I just figured out how to check and

Anyone know what's causing the long rear end black loading screen when I launch the game? I let it sit for like 10 minutes just now and it never got me to the main screen. Relaunching 3-4 times until the game works is tedious as gently caress.

I have had this black screen issue since season 9.5. Steam, Origin, etc it is all the same. It also takes forever during map changes. I have a 8700K and a 2070 so I know it is not them. It seems to be some sort of connectivity issue as after my black screen stays that way for 10 minutes I get a code leaf or net I cant remember and then when I press enter again it instantly gets to the main menu.

I've been having a problem for a while now with the first match upon booting up the game being lagged as hell. I'll miss the character select, the squad/champion rollcall and then usually only be able to take any sort of control of my character a good 10 seconds after the drop countdown, so usually long enough for to piss off my squad if I'm jumpmaster. All while the sound plays on the right cues as it should.

THUNDERDOME LOSER
I have two Steam profiles with Apex on both, and they have very different loading idiosyncracies.

One profile boots into the game menu without issue, but when I start my first match, it will stutter to the point where I don't even get to see the character select screen and I have to hope the random pick is someone I'm competent with if someone else selected my preference. I also have to hope that the jumpmaster doesn't hot drop off the bat, because the first half minute will be a lag stuttered mess, before it finally picks up and becomes playable. Every match after the first is smooth sailing.

The other profile has no in-game performance, but will have the minute and a half black screen loading loop, before it hits the inevitable code:net. Once I reconnect after that, it goes into menu. There's one additional chance the game will freeze when I select the game mode, resulting in another code:net, but after that it clears up permanently for the remaining game session, and I don't encounter any stuttering start-up performance.

This is all on the exact same laptop.

Same here.

Bonus points if we actually land on the map and I feel like an Agent in the Matrix while Neo zips all over and shoots me from a dozen angles.

I’m going to miss the Alternator. Down at my level having a gun that can kill someone with plenty of bullets to spare means that I can comfortably murder an R-99 maniac who thinks their aim is twice as good as it actually is while they’re desperately praying their reload goes off to finish the last 20 health I’ve been left with.

Is there another gun that’s as easy and comfortable? I feel like the Flatline comes close but it’s not quite the same.

R-301, Volt, Spitfire kind of. I actually use the R-301 and Alternator interchangeably right now since their feel is close enough though you definitely notice the increased recoil on the R-301.

R-99 you need to hit a lot, RE-45 mag is way too small, and the Flatline is kind of weird.

Flatline is one of the strongest guns in the game right now and a lot of top players call it op, will have to see if the patch changes anything beyond anvil receiver gone.

I have been using the alternator more since that video showcase, it's been slept on for sure.

Except for the early seasons where I was expecting Titanfall 2 performance out of the Alternator and was severely let down, I've found it to be a reliable gun that's always kind of surprising when you do get to knock folks around with it. I've said it before but the Alty is basically a pocket Spitfire, big mag, solid damage, easy to handle and plink with. It's not as brutal as many other SMGs but it's viable through most of the game until the end and even then having a gun that's just steady and simple can clutch it.

Of course with Disruptors it was the loving sweetest thing ever and I can't wait to see it back/get enraged by being melted with it

L-STAR
Now takes Energy Magazines—Mags on the L-STAR work differently than other weapons because of its unique interaction with ammo. Instead they will allow the L-STAR to fire more shots before it overheats and allow it to cool-off its heat build up slightly faster.
Now take Barrels for recoil reduction
Projectile VFX scale reduced by roughly half
First-Person on-hit impact effect intensity reduced
Hipfire spread increased

It's going to be a monster.

Also seer's Q scan does 10 damage, that'll get real annoying.

Agreed. I'm a little unimpressed by the changes, the balance changes seem relatively small and they instead focused on the shinies: new legend, new weapon, new map, ranked arenas. I don't give a poo poo about any of that I want them to continue refining matchmaking until it's not loving pulling teeth to play the game as a 0.75-1.5 KDR player. That said I’m aware any changes to matchmaking are kept under the hood to avoid player confirmation bias and insane Reddit manifestos so it is what it is.

I’ll still play the poo poo out of it, probably just somewhat less because I burn out more quickly every night when I’m getting pooped on by way better players.

I am not trying to be a doomer or a negative guy but there's no hope here. I wish I understood their matchmaking better but this seems to be the skill band where you're good enough to get regularly grouped up with absolute dullards but also put against very good solo or good squaded up players who you have little chance against. As someone who has been stuck in this band since Season 2: don't expect anything better, just accept it's going to be unfun most of the time and try to find good positive squadmates near you skill level (big time easier said than done).

As for this season, I'm just glad they put in a gun that the average player might find useful rather than aim-god poo poo like the 30-30 and Bocek.

unless you're a top % player winning is always going to be a lot less infrequent. A lot of the fun of the game for me is absurd situations and just fighting. Winning is a bonus that you get occasionally (or more often if you're playing with really good players who can carry your rear end).

IMO the general level of skill has gone up overall and even taking a long break can really set you back till you get back into the swing of things. Don't sweat it and just have fun! It also immensely helps to play with an actual group, I would not enjoy this game as much if I didn't have goons to make three stacks with.

Case in point for fun having as you die:

The latter is all about dropping too isolated and not having a loot routes towards action. I do think the maps all have issues with hot spots making 70% of the fighting happen in the first two minutes, but you can still play more towards action to avoid being in a sleeper match for 15 minutes.

I’d prefer just evolving past dropping in BRs anyways. Random spawns or select on a map but you can see where others are going, whatever. It would remove a lot of the issue of dead games or bad drops where you just don’t get to play because the landing lag sucks and you don’t get the weapon you got to first.

I feel personally attacked for my unranked MMR. 9 or less squads left by the end of ring 1 is pretty normal, especially when World's Edge is involved.

Spellbreak is kind of a bad game, but it tried to smooth out hot drops by letting you drop from N points on the map, as well as showing you if a drop point was being contested by another team during the prep screen. People would try to drop on the good loot points anyways but at least you could try to move someplace safer.
