what he thought would be a good idea to go off in public about, nearly 15 years ago. like sure he was an adult at the time but people can still change in 15 years, and again, 'going by what he thought would be good to say in public,' he has. dude didnt just coast he made a public effort to be inclusive and shut down weirdos. maybe that was all smokescreen or something, but again, if we have no way of knowing how he acted in private and are just going by what he put out there, i think the recent stuff, when hes in a position of a tiny bit of social power, makes up for a blog post when he was just some guy.

It just seems weird to leap to his defense since again, I'm saying we don't know what happened in private, only what he said in public which was very lovely, and obviously there was something they thought worth firing him over and I wouldn't take the fired guys word that it was purely because of the old blog post that was around for awhile. It reminds me of those many, many times someone would complain about their unjust banning for saying something completely innocent and gets a big crowd to rally behind them on the internet, then someone from respawn chimes in and turns out that was just the tip of the iceberg and they spewed out a whole lot of verbal diarrhea that wasn't public. Probably worth noting that he's actually been calling people out for being shitters over the past few years, so it definitely seems like he's either changed or at the very least did a fairly good job of doing do publicly. Maybe he was a gigantic fuckface behind the scenes, but unless respawn say's otherwise, we don't know.

drat, so many secret mods in this thread idk i think its bad that a dude who was constantly pushing against gamergate types and for diversity in both creative staff and the game, was fired for some (very lovely) posts made ages ago. i think punishment is something that should only exist if it prevents harm, not for its own sake. i think expecting him to own up and take accountability for past actions is a reasonable thing but he could do that while still keeping his job. the idea that if someone did something bad they must always be shunned and can never change is actually a very conservative one. i dont think these opinions are secret rightwing psy-ops. I think if he was fired for something that old without being given a chance to apologize it's pretty awful, especially since he's seemed like an alright dude since. But also we have no idea why he was actually fired so I'll just wait til someone leaks it to Jason Schreier or whatever.

I got the 50 arenas wins for the Genesis event and haven’t played since. Probably better with friends but with randos it’s a crap shoot and you can usually tell from round 1 how it’s going to go. You can switch up your strategy if you’re losing but unless your team is willing to as well you’re probably screwed.

I wasn’t super jazzed about Arenas at first, partially because the rumors of a non-BR mode had me hoping for a more chill experience like a deathmatch or something. Then it turned out to be 3v3, which is actually more stressful and dependent on you showing up and performing. I still played it but mostly only when my challenges motivated me to. Then I got really fed up with it during the Genesis event because averaging 3.5 wins per day was an enormously tall order. When Thrillseekers rolled around and featured mostly Arena challenges again I thought it would be a repeat of the same experience, but instead something clicked and I started popping off. I knocked out each week’s challenges in just a few days. It sort of unclicked for me with the start of this new season though, not sure why I lost that mojo. I still have great matches but not as consistently. And then sometimes it’s simultaneously a good match AND doesn’t progress the challenge I need, like the one last night where I dropped 2.5k damage but only had 2 knocks. In conclusion, Arenas is a land of contrasts. It’s not some people’s cup of tea but some folks are all about it. And it seems there’s enough of the latter that I really don’t think the flash events are an “oh poo poo” button in response to poor engagement with the mode.

The newer maps also just feel bad. Party crashers and Phase Runner are the only two I seem to have consistent fun on. They absolutely need to cut that pre round timer. Give an extra 10 seconds for the first round or two for strat talk (lol) and to give new players a chance to browse a little bit to get a feel for where things are, then take a hatchet to subsequent timers.

The new Olympus map in Areas is actually complete garbage. Way too open with exception of the two buildings means that nothing happens until the ring comes in.

I've had multiple matches where it boils down to one team running an honest-to-god dedicated sniper on the roof with their team playing inside their sight lines, and the other team sneaking around the sides.

all of the arenas maps based off of BR maps are bad but that one in particular encourages boring play patterns. even if I'm probably the biggest arena shill in this thread I can't recommend queueing until it rotates out

I love Arenas mode. I wasn't stoked first hearing about it, but It's become my new default mode for Apex. BR is alright but Arenas feels FAIR to me. Even if I have a poo poo team, I can still pull off a clutch sometimes and it feels amazing. I like how quick it is to get back into the action. No boring drop and loot, or unfair hot drop phase. It's also made me better at BR, as you get in way more practice actually fighting than just dropping and looting over and over. The buy phase is too long, true, but some people are so slow at buying they even don't have enough time as it is. I like the new Olympus map. It has a good mix of open ground and cover. And yea some people are dumb and just try to snipe up in the tower but it's easy to flank them when they're distracted. I've liked all the arenas maps besides Gardens. I checked my stats and momentarily felt bad 'cos my win rate and k/d are in the toilet so far this season, but then queued into a game and remembered that by the start of round 2 there are frequently only 7 squads left so there are far fewer opportunities to build damage or get kills unless you're dropping fragment every game 🤮 I will introspect on my steadily declining performance someday, but not today
