This happens rarely when shield swapping and more commonly from ring damage. Probably happens from nox gas too? It's basically a consolation prize as you still have your shield health while down if someone shoots you before they can hurt your downed health bar.

Yeah it was a hemlok and when I went down my shields were full from the swap. Just a weird timing interaction I didn't know could happen.

arena matchmaking is still all over the place for me, even in ranked bouncing between sweat-fests, and games where i get put with level 20 accounts who still sprint with their gun drawn

I like arenas because they seem to be the only place I can get consistently good matches. If I queue up solo into 3s I end up in games where everyone is a literal potato and I can wipe two squads on my own (while my teammates figure out how to use a mouse), if I queue up with my buddy into duos we typically end up in games where we either hot drop and spend a few minutes doing team deathmatch or we spend ten minutes trying to find action and then get deleted by the first people we see. Arena for some reason seems to give us more consistently decent matches. It's weird cause I'm level 32 or something so I'm not sure why when I queue solo 3s I'm being placed into "babby's first BR" games. Maybe cause I just haven't played enough 3s. Y'all have told me ranked would help but was hoping to find a third for our team so we didn't have to deal with rando pubbies. Might have to give it a shot anyway though because at this point we're having very little fun in unranked duo BR so we're mostly doing unranked arenas.

Arenas just isn't as interesting to me as BR, but if the map is good I'm ok with it as an occasional change of pace. Overflow I very much hate, but the originals & Olympus aren't that bad. The biggest problem I have with Olympus is I lost a round one time because off to the side the circle can finish on top of the bridge over the stairs, and the people on top will lose because there is a sculpture in the way of the closing final ring.

Duos tends to be a lot sweatier than trios now. I think it's mostly populated with people who are quite good but can't find a third and don't want to roll the dice on a pub.

Just the goon apex discord and hit up the LFG group if you want to find easy a third player that isn't a pubbie. Certain times of day can have some scarcity but for the most part you'll get at least one goon willing to jump in and die with you in trios. Also as a general rule if you're still level 32 that's still a pretty new account. If you aren't dropping 1k damage and averaging 6-10 kills a game the SBMM system is gonna consider you pretty new still, or at least need at least 2-3 more games with above newbie kp/damage stats to go "Oh, this isn't a new player." Basically yeah, just play more unranked trios and it'll adjust pretty quick.

Arenas is more interesting to me then BR, but unfortunately most of the maps stink. The actual shooting an equally equipped squad is my favorite part of the game, and I tolerate the looting and 3rd parties. Currently I only really like Overflow, the new lava map. The rest of them are too many highly defensive sections separated by little cover so the vast majority of games at least in pubs are about who can poke better. I feel like Overflow actually allows for some movement.

While I have mixed opinions on Endorph in general, all they did was come in and say "hey I think it's kinda hosed something a dude said 14 years ago may have gotten him fired, people can change and even saw some stuff in support they had changed." Which is surprisingly optimistic to me from Endorph. At no point did Endorph actually support what the dude said. The reasons the dude actually got fired for we'll either never know or find out eventually, wouldn't be surprised if it was a contributing factor but also probably included way more recent issues to let them go. That or the industy is getting real aggressive in house cleaning now that the Activision Blizzard poo poo is going down. Y'all are doing some weird gatekeeping as well, just because someone doesn't post in a thread doesn't mean they don't follow it or play the game. Something’s fucky with arenas for me since the new season started. Solid 45-60 second queues and all my enemies are 2-3 stacks of diamonds and/or 3000+ dmg badges. Very out of norm for me.

An unexpected and extremely minor downside of crossplay: after a match the likelihood that I can message a teammate over Xbox Live is much lower. Sometimes cause I wanna complement them, and sometimes (like tonight) because I want to taunt them with the win screen they left too early to be part of. (Side note, I wish it didn’t include abandoners during the “here are your champions” sequence.)

I'd like arenas more if the ring was always closing and did more damage. Sometimes it's a bunch of fun, but when it slows down and it's just people taking pot shots and hiding, it's BR gameplay without 3rd parties which isn't as fun.

I like arenas well enough, but I only have an hour or two to play per day and I'm bad at video games, so clearing all the daily arena event poo poo takes basically all the time I have to play. So in practice I never get to play BR which I do enjoy more.
