Apex has been getting a lot more viewers this season since TimTheTatMan and NickMercs started playing. Just between the two of them they usually bring in about 100k.

I know Seer is getting nerfed soon but man is he loathsome to fight. If you can't use the initial element of surprise against them (if there is one) by engaging up close before they can find their position, you basically lose any ability to push them in any meaningful way. Turns out 100% positional awareness at all times makes things crazy trivial!

I do think Crypto having a passive where he can't be detected or at least appears sporadically/inaccurately would be a great addition to him.

I didn't realise with seer but if you keep the ADS as you're coming round a corner on a guy it starts beeping louder and louder like you're some sort of horror movie villain.

I did it earlier, then stopped ADSing, waited a second, stepped round the corner and blasted the bloodhound.

Give Crypto a passive where he CAN be detected by scans, but the detected image explicitly shows up in the wrong location with the wrong health/shields because he hacked it.

It works in reverse too. Enemy heartbeats are louder or softer depending on distance, though this is super hard to hear unless you are out of combat. That’s why he’s supposedly an “Ambush Artist”.

There’s a thought—make the heartbeat sensor get scrambled by gunfire or other loud noises and have to cool down. Also make his Ult either more vulnerable or slower to charge please, that poo poo is obnoxious.

If youre on PC there is Kovaaks and AimLab which are aim training programs and probably the best way to practice raw aiming skill.

I find slamming my head into arenas has helped a ton in getting my feet wet as practice with guns and aim and movement. I like it more than the BR, and as someone coming from Warzone you can actually learn and get better rather than being deleted with half a second TTKs.

In the week I've played Apex I've had more fun moments that the last year of Warzone.

Arenas pubs is the place to go if you want to train general combat skills without leaving Apex. It's just fight after fight after fight with no major stakes so you'll be getting constant reps in way faster and more consistently than BR and with an actual squad of players to fight unlike firing range.

Those are great for hand eye coordination but in apex I find it’s way more about gun handling and movement, the combination of which you can only really practice in real fights. Arenas are great for this because they’re a consistent environment so you can focus on one or two guns at a time and have a relatively controlled fight without worry of broader game sense getting you killed.

For just learning how the guns feel hop in the firing range and try them out with a number of attachment combos. Find a short/med/long range weapon you like then hop in arenas for a while and try them out.

on top of other things people have mentioned imo what it comes down to is just grabbing a sniper or wingman as your second weapon and forcing yourself to use them every game. For sniper practice I'd recommend the Longbow, 12 bullets that deal 60 damage each on body shot is very good, especially with its high rate of fire and relatively low recoil when fully kitted.

Snipers are actually pretty straightforward under 100m, when you ads just make sure the dot is over what you want to hit and pull the trigger. Past about 150m you need to start compensating, the sniper sights have helpful range finders to compensate with. 2 is for 200m etc. Snipers are easiest to hit on people standing still so the first shot taken when they're not aware of you is the most valuable, though they're also strong in long range peek-offs. Headshots are great but in most situations you're best off just aiming for the body. Hitting a target moveing perpendicular to you is the hardest and something I'm still working on doing regularly, don't feel bad for missing those.

For the wingman, it's just a matter of practice up close. Always ADS when trying to hit someone, pistols have full movement speed when ADS anyway and it's basically pinpoint accurate at close range while you ADS with it. Within about 50m it's basically a pocket rifle, if someone's peeking you you can just spam at the corner they're trying to peek you on for potentially free damage. If you've got a buddy to play with hop in the firing range and scrap it out with wingman only for some practice.

Can someone type words about how to use pathfinder's grapple for neat movement rather than the meme about "this is who balanced his cooldowns" that I always do?

Especially that on ground movement to rocket yourself forward - I always see people taking these nice arcs to get a bunch of velocity and I really don't understand the inputs for that.

You target the ground as far away as possible while the indicator shows it will still connect. Just before it connects jump without any directional input and it should start pulling you in an arc. Hit crouch just before or after the apex to launch yourself with height or distance.

You'll have to practice this in the firing range, remember the gold helmet to make the cooldown faster. Aim the grapple as far as possible on the ground.

You need to press jump at the same time as the grapple hits the ground. If you don't get the nice arc and speed, you jumped too early. If you don't jump at all, you jumped too late.

A youtube video would probably be a much better way to show grapple tricks then just text, but besides from just aiming at the ground in front of you and jumping when it connects, try aiming at the side of something, say to your left, then look to your right and sort of slingshot yourself around for a massive momentum boost.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKZ9XBRgk7Y if you want tutorials on how to do some grapples that will come in handy game to game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANCAE6oR3Cc if you want to watch a montage of pathfinder grapples that turn it into a entirely different game.

Best advice I can give is that the grappling hook only ever ends when it either A: reels you in or B: breaks from distance or object in the way, if you wiggle yourself around correctly the grapple can last a long time and can build up speed fast.

there are, but nothing will significantly reduce the hours you need to rack up. as mentioned above kovaak and aimlab help with mouse control which is only a part (albeit a fundamental one) of aim

so stop, get out of your comfort zone and refrain from using these

Endorph posted:

pick up only those guns and force yourself to use them

you'll need to maximise time spent using those guns against real targets, so get in game (arenas will minimise downtime) and practice. regular practice (30 mins/day) will help you more than doing a single 3 hour block on one day

the main disadvantage of using arenas to train aiming is that you don't really ever get forced to use guns with subpar or imbalanced attachments, which is a situation all too common in pubbie hotdrops in BR.

I mean you could intentionally pick lv0 weapons I guess and dump the rest of your points into whatever but why would you do that

true
i prefer firing range for warmup, 15 mins with no barrel and the biggest magazine and a variety of sights usually sets me right
only real reasons i'd recommend arenas at all is that enemy movement and thinking about cover etc. dont change based on your attachments
pubbie hotdrops are an extreme example i cant relate to, i pretty much exclusively play 3stack now because why gamble

I posted my food for USPOL Thanksgiving!

Had been languishing in Bronze in Ranked Arenas for the last few nights. I decided after it was taking too long to get into games just to play with the same other potato people, so I decided I'd play some unranked. Holy gently caress my MMR must have been trash after the ranked play because my first 3 games were results I rarely see. All 3 and out wins, the last one me having all 7 kills (opponents had a player drop round 1) with 1 assist and less than 200 damage from my teammates.

Things evened out a bit after that and had some fun longer matches, but my KDR & win rate for the night was well above my average.
