ironically my takeaway from the throwback event was that turning capital city into fragment actually made the hot drop problem WORSE. Didn't do anything to discourage people from landing there, just reduced the number of POIs they could land in

If you don't want to land a hot zone like fragment or estates funny play qp because most everyone in that mode is there for a good time not a long time. Ranked is the mode to play if you want to people to just not relentlessly w-key. I have the opposite problem in that sometimes I'll queue into pubs to knock out some challenges and get matched with players who think it's game 7 of algs, landing far and avoiding all combat.

Geyser is totally fine, you have a couple of places to rotate too (especially with Lava Syphon being a thing now). People that drop Landslide are insane though, you're lucky if you come out with a gun and ammo for it.

Man did they remove/break the thing where people leaving mid-finisher still grant you the finisher daily? I could have sworn that was a thing last season or two, but you don't get the challenge anymore if they box mid-animation.

I'm about 60 hours into this game and was loving it, even the quick wipes, because at least they seemed fun and chaotic. Then I had a night full of hot drop wipes, wait in the queue, die right away, wait in the queue, die right away... The exception to the frustration was the guy that dropped us into that Wraith-like funnel with 4 or 5 other groups, all at the same time. I was playing Bangalore and didn't have high hopes, so I just smoke bombed the landing and started jump kicking heads like some sort of violent mosh-rave. We didn't make it out alive, but we took at least one group with us.

The trick to that is getting some friends and being in charge of the drop so you can land somewhere you can all grab some basic equipment and then ask "is everyone fight ready" at which point you either run towards the nearest target or keep looting until fight ready. Otherwise the rando's will always try and be just like their favorite streamer and try to kill the entire lobby by themselves.

Sometimes it def feels thin but usually is good enough to get you going and into a fight. Also can have some fun fights if other squads drop with.

I admit hating it is just personal preference with my brain at this point. Much prefer the west side - staging, thermal, fissure, tree, countdown, skyhook.

I had a great experience where my friend and I saw a team at the top of the construction building in west Fragment and we knew they had to take the zip line near us to get to zone so I placed Sheila behind a rock near the zip. My friend threw Horizon's ult as soon as they got off the zip and I absolutely destroyed them with Sheila. Got a message saying "Really?" after, which I loved

FPS games are orders of magnitude larger in popularity and dropping private servers hasn't hurt that at all. Probably helps it, if anything.

TF2 hit its highest concurrent players of all time this year too, and has both matchmaking and privates. BRs could implement custom lobbies with invite codes I guess, but outside of big streamers that wouldn't really work if it needed 60 players. They could let you start in later rounds for smaller lobbies or something, that'd be cool too.

I think we're just old. The moment I started college the "play with my squad" era of gaming ended for me and support for that stuff structure is so immensely higher. If you have 2-4 close friends to play games with, the entire industry wants you (and your friend's 10 bucks).

First game of Platinum: Hot dropped, yelled at, first team dead. Second game of Platinum: Easy full KP 2nd place that could have been a first if I had one extra Ultimate Accelerant. Apex giveth and taketh away/game of contrasts/etc. etc.
