Was genuinely shocking to watch a match on Storm Point the other day where there were 5 teams still alive by the final ring. Contrast to watching Worlds Edge clips from this week and watching that team count just DROP.

Maybe remove everything from the map except fragment? Also lol that they destroyed capitol to stop people dropping there but it's even more popular now because the streamer building is the best place for outplays on the map. hot take the level design gets worse every season as they try and enforce their vision. OG KC still the best.

It’s the only part of the map. You either drop fragments or consign yourself to never see another squad until final ring.

I would much rather land fragment than have a twenty minute game where my teammate who ate entire tray of weed brownies throws the match after twenty minutes of inaction in the final 3 because they have no idea what they’re doing. loving idiot last night decides he’s going to craft armor at the edge of the ring where the other two teams clearly are going to come from to get in and just insta dies.

Thing that sucks about playing a live service game like Apex is that you either agree with the direction the developers and community are pushing it and have a good time, or you're just hosed and left with no recourse but sit and complain on online message boards. Personally I'd love to keep playing the game as it was at launch (with some patches so it doesn't crash every other match like it did). KC for instance was shaped by the developers having fun with playing the game themselves as they built it and you could feel the love put into it, unlike its current zombie state of poo poo piled on top of poo poo that is nearly unrecognizable from the original. Respawn's loving omakase philosophy pisses me off too. I thought they'd finally stopped after we shuffled through all three maps in pubs the last season, but nope. Now we have four gigantic maps in the game (well actually more but they don't let us play older versions more than max 1 time a year), and for some reason they decide we are going to be stuck with only two of those for the next three or so month.

If Fragment were just a never-ending level 6 ring flare i feel like WE would produce a really nice amount of third partying, somewhere between KC catastro-gently caress and the overwhelmingly honest except for Jurassic Park fights that I keep getting in Storm Point

Bottom Liner posted:Cause meet effect Nobody is claiming otherwise but blowing up fragment doesn’t really fix the fact that people play pubs with a focus on fighting and if squads pair up and drop on each other you’re still down to ten squads within the first two minutes. And some of them are close enough to each other that you’re down to like 6 before the second ring. The only thing that changes is where people hot drop basically (probably will just become sky hook or whatever sorting factory area is called now) and maybe you have a little more variety in terms of fight locations. I quoted that post earlier because I do agree with it, but I'd like to say that the core of the problem isn't Fragment itself, but the players. People want to just drop and fight, and Fragment is just the perfect storm on WE of large enough with enough loot to support many squads, and a generally fun area to play in. Except that sucks out the fun of the rest of the map which does imo have a lot of interesting spots to fight in, but you don't really get to fight there because everyone goes Fragment to die immediately. Which sucks. Hence, nuke fragment leaving only the streamer building behind with a giant lava lake of death surrounding it and the only way on it is to use some jump towers that are on the outside edge forcing it to be a one way trip. Also hot take, having only gotten to play old KC when it came around for the event: it loving sucked, was boring and too same-y across the map. New KC is way better and more varied, old KC had the same third party issues. Also Skulltown, as the OG Fragment, also sucked. I appreciate folks having nostalgia for it but players at the time were way different then they are now and the flaws are way more apparent. Lava Siphon (the used-to-be Sorting) might be a problem if they just turned the map into a donut but I think Fragment's dead center placement has a lot to do with it. It means you're almost guaranteed to get a drop that will lead you to it, which makes its "sucks away teh fighting from the rest of the map" problem even more apparent. Containment, Energy Depot, Estates, and the Command Center's Anus are all guaranteed fiestas, but only Fragment attracts the sheer volume of ttv players, and at least you have a higher chance of a flight path that leads you away from those areas. EDIT: this does imply they should keep Jurassic Park the weird blank area it is now. A purple tier loot town takeover will turn the biggest map into the smallest one with one change. Caustic, Fuse, Revenant, Valkyrie now top picks because their tacticals cause damage helping you get the knockdown first. Wattson would still be the secret sleeper pick. EDIT: Pathfinder's Boxing Ring with none of the charm or skillgap. life_source fucked around with this message at 00:46 on Nov 14, 2021 |

It was a lot of fun being able to 3-punch people and orb them to count to 100 damage, before they gave everyone shields.

Instead of removing the most fun place to land on WE, just expand Fragment and remove the rest of the map. Instead of a donut, make it a donut hole

Yeah this is it and it's also why I shake my head at people complaining about the loot distribution in Storm Point. It seems to have quieted down as people figured out that SP loot is held in the pillboxes but, and I've posted about this a few times, the scarcity of the loot drives you to not only seek out other squads but also other POIs. This is another angle from which you can see why Fragment is a problem, you don't really need to go anywhere else in World's Edge if you win Fragment, you'll be more or less fully loaded and can just fill holes in from squads you fight after that. I had a game right before going into work tonight where my team dropped The Tree, killed two squads, and then wandered from there to Harvester -> Train Yard -> Fragment without much action. Once we hit Fragment we fought two other red-armor squads -- clearly the winners of the Fragment moshpit -- in a very tense and drawn-out firefight on the train tracks just outside it. (This fight also led me to realize that the 30-30 Repeater is actually a fairly acceptable replacement for the Flatline & Anvil Receiver, contrary to my previous opinion of it as the worst gun in the game.) My issue is it's always and only ever Fragment that that story ends with when you're playing World's Edge. It's never Skyhook or Big Marge or whatever. Fragment is a gravitational well that sucks the entire map into it, inimical to variety.

The mistake was putting the most popular POI in the center of the map. Also, why don’t they do the Warzone thing and show the first circle before you drop? That would shrink the effective size of the maps without cutting down variety.

Yes, this is fine for ranked play. But for anyone who doesn't actually want to do that poo poo, it means you land at the couple of loot points in the map that has fairly decent loot (there are a couple) and hotdrop fight for it, or you land on the arse end of the map and hope nobody finds you so you can scavenge your way into it. It hasn't fixed the problem and in a month when people work out everyone's just dropping into whatever fragment/estates/capacitor version of this map is, you'll get the same complaint. Only now the map requires overly massive rotations. This is the least fun i've had on a map since release worlds edge during the charge rifle meta.
