So what are the odds that Control sticks around past the LTM cutoff? They put a hell of a lot of effort in and even had the VAs do special lines for it, seems like a waste if it's just all going to disappear entirely soon.

I’d wager that it does go away after this, but it won’t stay gone for long. Whether it becomes a permanent addition or a frequently recurring LTM I can’t say for sure.

Also, I got 21 caps in about 2 hours of playing Control last night. So that badge isn’t quite as bad as it initially seemed, when I’d only gotten 34 the whole first week. Back-caps and recaptures make for a lot more progress than just throwing yourself at B all match, who knew.

I had one match where we came back from a huge deficit by triple-capping when the enemy team was at 98%. I can’t believe we pulled it off, the scramble to keep their gimme point was insane.

I think it goes away, this seems more like a test to see how people like it. The main issue is the maps are super bad, and another issue is that there's a lot of not great design decisions in the mode.

It'll probably come back if they figure the time investment required to make dedicated maps is worth it.

I keep waffling on how big a factor the maps are in the entire mode feeling meh. Like in arenas, the lack of a three-lane design in the repurposed BR maps made an obvious difference in game quality, but I can't pinpoint what exactly about the control maps is bad?

Control capture points are laid out linearly, in order to get to the enemies A/C point, you have to swing into dead-mans land. Which is either a boring slog, or requires a vehicle to get through in a timely manner.

Linear cap points also mean most players are predictably going to shuffle into B because that's where the front-line is, and pushing to A/C from B is impossible if the enemy team is doing the same thing.

Three CP designs play better in triangular layouts where it takes the same amount of time to reach two different capture points from spawn. This forces defenders to split their resources or risk being overwhelmed if attackers load up on the point with less defense.

I would think the mode goes away for tweaks and adjustments but no way it doesn't come back for good. At worst I could see it being an LTM that re-appears at the same rate as those arenas "please play me" flash events

A number of maps in BC2 had their CQ points laid out linearly too, but I don't really recall it feeling as oppressive as control.

I thought about it a bit and I think the issue is that Apex BR maps are laid out as POIs and rotations. If you take B you're heavily disincentivized to push towards enemy flag, because that's how BR design works. If you're trying to take B you're basically fighting a 3v9 which always goes poorly in BR.

If they picked maps comprised of multiple sub-POIs like Skulltown or Capital City I think that might actually be an improvement?

I mean the Storm Point map is basically a triangle layout, and with the spawn launcher pads you can get C-A pretty quickly. The problem is how easy and fast it is to retake spawn with the way the mechanics work, so most games come down to a big scrum over B.

The biggest issue is with Control that they haven't recreated facing worlds or the much better quake maps q3dm6 (campgrounds) or q3dm17( longest yard)

Control went from pretty fun to absolute garbage in just a few days because Respawn don't understand the importance of backfill or wait times for leavers. Haven't had a single game end with full teams since day 1.

I wouldn't be surprised if backfill is impossible with how they've designed lobbies, but a leaver penalty is 100% neccessary. Won a game today we were losing in control on the SP map because suddenly 5 members of the enemy team just DC'd. Outside of crashes I really don't understand people who dc just because you're like 1% down or whatever.

Anybody else noticed that when you neutralize but fail to fully capture the enemy team’s gimme point, any progress you made gets instantly given to them? I don’t know if it’s a bug or a weird design decision but it sucks rear end.

so like, you get it to 40% before a wave of enemies kill you, and instead of them having to reduce what you did back to 0%, when they start capping it they just take over at your 40% instead?

Yup. Watch the meter change color, but not progress, at the exact moment I die. The only reason I waffled on it being a bug or not is because I’ve only seen it happen to the farthest point from your team’s spawn, but it does seem too mean to be on purpose.

Yeah I think it’s intentional and a stupid design decision. The only reason to push the enemy spawn point is to distract them from B so you can retake it easier. The mode would be way better with three neutrally placed zones instead of being 95% about a scrum at B.

That's how it's been done in every other game, including Respawn's own Amped Hardpoint in Titanfall 2.

just got 11 zone capture credits in control since defending a capture point that has started to tick down counts as a capture and someone on the other team kept trying to cap a point and ran away as soon as i enterted

How are they still screwing this up where a Arenas matches starts and it's 2 vs 3 the entire way? You'd think they would just kick someone on the other team or re-do the match, but nope. Happened twice today out of like 10 games.

Just unlocked Seer after getting his event skin and he's actually so fun. Very nice pick in control too, his ult can completely shut down a point if you have defenders.

I posted my food for USPOL Thanksgiving!


I'd been trying a bunch of different legends in Control trying to see what I liked (and remember how to shoot mans) in the some of the new legends I hadn't played with yet. Then one of my daily challenges was play 2 with Mirage, so I used him in Arenas. First match went 3-0 with 6 kills and immediately remembered how much I liked playing with him, especially with that hypebeast skin.



Also, where did this Wattson skin come from? This and the banner they were using were so perfect. I'm sure it's from something I couldn't unlock any more, nor do I really play her much, but still...

Throwing your drone during a push is really cool as Crypto. Also triggering EMP while simultaneously throwing grenades.

It’s not a major power buff but the QOL is vastly improved.

That’s one of her default loot pool legendaries, so you can pay 1200 crafting metals to get it whenever you want.

Crypto was already a staple of high level comp with a handful of teams running him, now I bet he’ll have like a 50% pick rate. He’s in a great spot.
