Control is straight up the fastest way to get better at basic mechanics like shooting and movement. You get unlimited ammo, a constant stream of people to shoot at, and you respawn when you gently caress up and die. Hot dropping BR you'll have at least a couple minutes of downtime before you even touch another gun after you die. Arenas has less downtime than BR but still a bit more than Control and it won't really help with trying to deal with more than 3 people at a time.

Control's real good for hitting moving targets and getting used to guns. Fast respawns teach you to stop being scared of fights and are just significantly less punishing than even arenas (and obviously way less punishing than BRs.) It also helps you're not spending like 70% of your game time in a menu. :v:

For BRs, you wanna try to hit a balance of not landing on 10 squads but also not landing in the middle of nowhere. You wanna land with probably one squad nearby to get used to early fights, or close to a squad at a different POI so you can get set up and move on them early. Getting used to the guns helps a lot but having good positioning is a big part too. Developing good map awareness is something people tend to struggle with even like 100s of hours in.

Yeah, Control won't really help with a lot of the aspects that differentiate BRs from other types shooters like good rotations and positioning being super important and the hightened awareness that's required when you have several different teams all fighting against each at the same time but those are skills that you have to build up over a really long time.

I legit wouldn't play apex if my problem was "i can't shoot things good". I'd play a different shooter and then bring the skills over.

This is why PC players even recommend that aim training software. Apex is inherently arena PvP maps built over an open world layout and like 95% of players have no idea what to do with that. Arena helps a little but not much, in all honesty, and Control won't teach you any actual positioning or shooting relevant in the BR (but is still fun! Not everything has to service the BR).

You'll just get a lot more time firing and positioning in a dedicated FPS, and something with a longer TTK.

find a comfortable sens+dpi (assuming you're on KBM). Most people play with a sense somewhere between 1.0-2.0 and a dpi ranging between 800-1400 but find what works for you. You want to be able to do a 360 without your mouse leaving your mousepad/desk at a minimum.

Spend a lot of time warming up in the firing range too. Recoil control is pretty easy in apex - fully kit out an r301 and just sit on a full bag of ammo. fire at near targets and medium targets. if your hand eye coordination is beyond abysmal i guess maybe consider picking up aim lab or kovaaks or something just to practice basic tracking skills. it won't translate 1-1 to any ingame skill but your hands won't feel like they're betraying you as much.

from the wiki

Level 2 - 20: one every level.
Level 22 - 300: one every 2 levels.
Level 305 - 500: one every 5 levels.

after level 500 you can only get them from seasonal rewards (battlepass/treasure packs) or limited time events

or insert your credit card into the cd tray

i decided to check this and, first of all the game defaults to 5x sensitivity apparently lol, and also I looked it up and i seem to use 3000 dpi setting on my mouse. vroom vroom holy poo poo.

i've turned it down to 4x sensitivity.

I'm viable ladies.

The single biggest thing that helped me get better at the game was just turning dpi and sense way down. I start at like 2500 dpi and 3x sense and when I cranked it down to like 1300 dpi and 1.5 sense the difference was actually night and day. The big thing is to break aiming with your wrist at hand at certain ranges and use arm movements instead, only using wrist/hand stuff for medium-long to long range.

I'm not at 900 dpi and 1.3 sense and I'm def a much better aimer. It takes some time to re-adjust to new sensitivity ratings though, so you will suck for a bit while you get used to it.

you don't need to disable windows mouse acceleration anymore, any remotely modern shooter will have raw input which ignores the windows acceleration curve

with two big monitors side by side i find acceleration helpful on the desktop

left with a grand total of 0 kills

but I think I'm already getting mildly better :)

also dang, different guns have way different drop offs at way different ranges. Learning!

e: I'm bad at hitting enemies with the bullets from my gun.
I usually play duos or trios with real life friends who are pretty decent at shooting enemies with bullet.
what champion will provide the most utility to my friends, given that I can't shoot well?

Bloodhound is going to be the top pick. You can track people and be a wallhack totem. You'll also learn the maps better playing as him and see how other players move around by noticing their paths.

I like Seer because I can get a ton of information with him with game knowledge and the heartbeats, and throwing his ultimate usually wins one skirmish a game unless things go poorly.

Gibraltar can be good without shooting, but I'd practice a bit with shotguns. Basically drop shields to protect folks and rez from far away.

Caustic and just throwing cans everywhere is good. You can shoot your own cans to create gas clouds to hide in, including while you rez as a distance, and his ultimate grenade can be pretty high utility with no gunplay. You can lockdown indoor spaces in late rings and on drop and honestly I throw can like crazy during fights outside too at all of my flanks just to keep people positioned.

Loba will help you and your team loot faster and get more powerful and fight ready quicker.

Fuse? I don't play him but chucking grenades like crazy sounds like a solid support role with less shooting.

Crypto is a little more complex but like bloodhound and seer you can use the drone to help your team and emp blast the enemies. If you're good at everything BUT shooting you might be able to multitask a crypto well and they're super powerful in fights if they get their drone positioned well.

I mean, it's fine if you want to lower dpi but don't drop below 800. The difference in latency between 800 and 1600 is so small that it doesn't really matter. Also, lower dpi increasing latency only really applies to tracking. Flicks are fine either way.

If you're still learning the game, lifeline, maybe bloodhound.
Lifeline can heal and call in upgraded shields and weapon attachments, and has a drone that can pick up downed people so you can still fight... just be mindful of where you rez.
Bloodhound can track and has a scan, information is honestly really important. Like yeah, you need to shoot well, but your placement and knowledge of where your opponents are is key.
Don't be afraid to try any character honestly, but a lot of them are complicated if you're just learning the basics.

This is kind of a mindset thing but I recommend also picking like one general area to focus on. Like "Today I'm gonna focus on accuracy and hitting shots." "Today I'm just going to focus on staying alive." One of the reasons why I feel like Halo is a good modern game/ arena shooter to play that carries over to this is you learn that sometimes its okay to just disengage and regroup. It's really easy to over extend and get greedy in Apex. Since you're getting your sea legs again I'd just focus on staying alive and consistently hitting my targets. Do that long enough the kills will come.

The best strategy for control is to pick Valk and ult over to their control point over and over. No one ever defends it, and if you're good enough you can hold them off long enough for your team to cap B. I'll never get a 4k damage and 20 kill game in BR but I sure can in control.
