Why did they lower the arc stick damage? Was that a real problem?

It has been and still is the most powerful and most used ordenance in the game by a mile. They do a shitload of shield damage AND slow+stun on stick and explosion. Not to mention sticking someone is incredibly powerful and can turn a stalemate on its head.

They've played with removing the stick slow before and rolled it back, guess the devs felt the aim slow was a bit too powerful of a combo on stick.

As for the stick damage now you have to commit to shooting someone instead of just firing a burst and ducking into cover.

Is there any point in trying to pick this game up casually? I don't really game more than 10-15 hours or so a week and my brother wants to play it together. Any primarily text-based beginner guides out there, if so?

I played for a bit solo queueing into random trios this weekend and got consistently, completely and utterly wrecked. It seems very sweaty/hardcore, getting DOTA/CS vibes from it.

For reference, I'm a 1.25-1.5 K/D type player in traditional FPSes like COD and Halo. Not great by any means, but not awful either.

Depends who you play with, but trio queues will typically be pretty hardcore.

This is exactly my K/D in those FPSs (well, around 1.2 honestly) and this game consistently matched me into lobbies where the majority of the opposing teams would roll me easily, and it did it so frequently that I eventually almost completely stopped playing (I play maybe a couple of hours a month now).

Anecdotally, the first year of the game had a good spread of player skills but now it's people who are playing it because it's free (kids) and skilled players who love to pubstomp. The middle tier is near completely gone in my experience, so you're either against coordinated squads who buzzsaw the server until they run into another buzzsaw or literal children who drop hot and are eliminated within the first 3 minutes of the game.

Do you have any ideas about why you're getting wrecked? There are so many systems to learn that it's really hard to take it all in at once, so if you have some self-insight into what's lacking in your gameplay, that would make it easier to target what exactly you need to work on.

Since you've played shooters you probably don't need to focus too much on aim and basic movement, for instance, but maybe things like when to break off and reset or loot pathing are areas you need to work on as traditional shooters don't have that.

I came into the game with similar stats in COD/Halo and average playtime per week, primarily solo queuing except when partying with a friend. I never actively sought out guides or grinded in kovaak's or whatever.

I don't have playtime estimates, but around the time I hit LV120 I started becoming comfortable taking fights, and around LV300 I felt good about actively picking fights with other squads. Also around the time I hit 300 was when the game started becoming miserable to play for my friend due to SBMM.

I think the hardest adjustment for me was learning the pace of fights. Not only is TTK much higher than COD, the squad system means that shooting one enemy means three of them will shoot back at you.

I once heard the game described as 95% garbage time and 5% raw adrenaline / melatonin. The highs are INCREDIBLY high but there's a bunch of crap in between.

I have a weekly Halo 3 night with some friends from college and Apex definitely improved my Halo gameplay. It untrained my default instincts to thirst for kills and always be moving. It's surprising how effective in both games just disengaging behind any small piece of cover is at just allowing you to reload, regen health, or just conserve ammo in your current mag.

I'm a deaf player and play fairly frequently. I range between 0.8 to 1.4 K/D depending on how hot I'm streaking. Can place into Gold without too much trouble.

I don't think the "middle tier" is gone, but I think most of the mid-tier players generally have decent enough aim nowadays like I do, so if you get caught out in the open and aren't ready to immediately take cover or evade you're going to get knocked pretty quickly.

Maybe a CAR or R99?

I have zero idea what "break off", "reset", and "loot pathing" mean, so yes, those are definitely weak points. I never played Fortnite or any other BR so I'm not really familiar with the terms. I don't struggle at all with the FPS aspect of it and I have typically been winning gunfights when I get the jump on the enemy and my squad is around.

Generally in other shooters once you pick up a bit of weapon and map knowledge you can compete at a casual level as long as your aim, awareness, etc. is good. Just trying to figure out if that's possible here or if it's going to be a DOTA/LOL-esque slog of learning the ins and outs of the meta, characters, items, abilities, maps, etc to avoid getting pubstomped and screamed at by teenagers. So far it seems like the latter and I don't want to get too invested if so.

It's a really fun game, I just suck!

Break off means to pull back from a fight to either reset or try to rotate out of your position. A reset is when both teams back off enough for everyone to fully heal. This is one of the things you need to be wary of if you're trying to third party because they might both turn on you afterward. Loot pathing is just trying to take efficient paths from loot pile to loot pile so you get geared up quicker.

You can definitely compete at a casual level with good shooting skills. The things which take the longest to learn are map knowledge and game sense, especially late ring situations.

You're lucky in that 2/3 of the maps which will be in rotation for Season 14 are pretty easy to learn because they were the starting maps so level design wasn't as complicated.

So Vantage's passive highlights enemies in your FOV even if you aren't necessarily aware of them. I found so many people hiding in corners or scurrying through smoke/fog that I would've completely overlooked without the passive. I also managed a bunch of "blind" shots through Bang smoke where the enemy was standing still thinking they were safe from anyone spotting them.

The tactical is VERY SLOW and basically unusable as evasion/escape. Loba's bracelet is about 2x-3x faster, for comparison. Very good for getting to sniper perches, though.

The ult seems... OK, I guess? I didn't feel like it was available enough to forgo my trusty Longbow.

The Volt feels wonderful now that it's returned. Such accurate beaming!

Free 3x zoom on unarmed ADS is pretty solid. I'm unsure if the play for Vantage is to have a short range + mid-range loadout and rely on the ult for long range stuff or carry a sniper and risk the ult being slightly redundant. I will say the animations for picking up a Sentinel are adorable and make me want to use that gun all the time.

Also gonna suggest playing some Arenas instead of BR mode to get a good feel for the legends and what they can do. You'll probably still die right away but there's less of a lag between death and getting back out there. Plus you can try different weapons etc to see what you prefer.

I like the ring closing faster, but the increased damage is not doing it for me. Its one thing to get the action going, its another for a distant map drop being an instant death sentence if you have even one fight along the way. It seems every game if you happen to be on the wrong side of the ring, the MVP of the map is the ring. Kinda unfun when that happens.

But I do hope they keep the faster closing times, thats good.

Is it garbage if it's true?

The default sensitivity in every FPS is way too high.

Why is it even possible to set the DPI on my mouse to 16000? It's impossible to control. 800 is fine!

It’s not a meme. Higher precision is going to lead to better accuracy, once you adjust.
