Got the feeling they are really getting the groundwork for titanfall 3 going, game went from people asking if this was the same titanfall universe to just name dropping titanfall characters left and right.

I know optimizing the game for next gen consoles was supposed to be a thing they prioritized but with the cheater/DDOS issue being so bad I'm guessing that's on the backburner.

I was gonna pick up Titanfall 2 finally, because everyone raves about it and its $7.50 on Steam at the moment. The first one doesn't have a single player campaign to speak of, right? I'm guessing it isn't really even worth the $5 they're asking?

Good choice on picking up Titanfall 2, everybody should play Titanfall 2.

As for OG Titanfall, the multiplayer-only story campaign was pretty cool at the time, but probably not worth trying to play these days. Last time I checked it was nearly impossible to play the campaign matches in order, which makes it hard to get a coherent story out of it. This video seems like a pretty good summary. Here's my quick n' dirty version:

Pregame - An unclear amount of time before the first game, the Interstellar Manufacturing Corporation financed the settlement of a region of space called the Frontier. After a while they mostly abandoned it as public interest waned and conflicts closer to Earth claimed their attention. Eventually they came back and were like "okay guys we're back in charge now" and everyone was like "no, gently caress off" and then they had a war with giant robots that fall down from space and crazy wall-jumping ninja soldiers. The IMC seemed to come out on top but tensions still bubbled under the surface until the game starts about 15 years later.
Refueling Raid - The Frontier Militia fight off the IMC as they refuel in the ruins of a luxury city ruined by seismic activity caused by resource extraction.
The Colony - The Militia responds to a distress signal from an independent colony being attacked by the IMC. The IMC forces, led by mercenary Kuben Blisk, use new "Spectre" robotic soldiers to commit a massacre.
The Odyssey - The colonists turn out to be the crew of an IMC ship that mutinied back during the earlier part of the war. They're led by former IMC captain James MacAllan, who now wants revenge and has a plan to cut off all IMC reinforcements from Earth. The admiral leading the IMC forces, Marcus Graves, is an old friend of his who also knows about his plan.
Get Barker - The Militia raids Angel City to kidnap/rescue a friend of MacAllan's who is essential to his plan. During the fight, the Miltia cripples an IMC flagship.
Assault on Sentinel - The Militia uses the opportunity created by the crippled flagship to gently caress up more IMC ships, by commandeering the giant guns on the shipyard where it stopped for repairs.
Here Be Dragons - Barker leads them to a secret research base where the Repulsor Tower technology was developed.
The Three Towers - Sarah leads an infiltration team that uses the data from the research base to disable the repulsor towers that protect IMC Airbase Sierra. Without them, the local wildlife (leviathans, flyers, etc) come in and destroy everything.
The Battle of Demeter - With Airbase Sierra out of comission, the way is cleared to attack the vital refueling station on the planet Demeter. MacAllan sacrifices himself to overload the station's reactor, and everything goes boom. Without it, travel to and from the Frontier will now take literal years.
Made Men - The epilogue chapter takes place a few months later. The remaining IMC forces are now led by an AI called Spyglass, because Graves defected to the Militia after MacAllan's noble sacrifice. Blisk still works for the IMC, and this is where he delivers his most memorable line.
Postgame - The Battle of Typhon (the story of TF|2) takes place about 5 years after the Fall of Demeter, and the Apex Games started about 15 years after that. The Games have been going for about 5 years at our current point in the story.

The last 4 weapons introduced have been the Sentinel, the .3030 Repeater, the Volt, and now a Bow.

3 of the 4 are absolutely worthless to the average player as they badly punish any missed shots.

Not impressed.

It's OK the next weapon will probably be the Dragon LMG that runs on light ammo :blastu:

Yeah I'm not feeling a bow. The niche is again weird, just like Destiny's. Medium range, high damage, slow rate of fire. How does it differ from a sniper sans scope, or a DMR? If anything, the 3030's gimmick of higher damage on delayed shots seems like it belongs on the bow instead.

Also I hate it aesthetically.

Capture the opening of the portal that connects this earth of 3D to one earth of 4D or 5D. Going to the 5D.

Bow should be quiet/silent, and maybe it won't leave a bullet trail. That would make it interesting to me.

I'm reluctant to endorse a light ammo LMG; we're already at 6 light guns, and I don't want to dilute the gun pool further.

Wow, I actually really like Auto-Banners a LOT. I really hope they make this permanent. If you don't cleanly execute a full squad one player can get away, respawn his teammates, and come back to fight again later in the match. This does a hell of a lot for extending the "lifetime" of a match as long as you have at least one player who's smart enough to realize when a battle is lost and bail on it. Because you respawn naked you have to play carefully for awhile trying to scavenge enough loot to get back to fighting status, and obviously the respawn dropships are visible from almost the entire map.

We had 6 squads remaining on Ring 4 and a lot of multi-squad fighting even in the 4th ring. I nearly pulled off a clutch play by slipping away and dropping a mobile respawn beacon while the other 2 final squads were fighting. Unfortunately the victorious squad came and finished us off before we could get guns distributed.

Regular respawn beacons are now very important points on the map that you'll want to stay aware of and try to fight/position nearby, instead of just being a hail mary last-ditch effort.

Bow feels like a weird add immediately after the similar niche of the 30-30 but some of the leakers were speculating that the other gun everyone was rumouring about wasn't ready yet so *shrug* who knows.

Short was great, feels like the devs are having a lot of fun fleshing out the Titanfall setting. So many plot points they've established in Apex they could snatch up on in a theoretical Titanfall 3. A multiway hellwar for Salvo would be pretty rad.

Guess this is the point in the thread we start wishlisting for changes we wanna see in the Season change over. Personally would like to see the Double-Tap hop-up added back in, Turbocharger bumped down to a purp or just straight up worked into the base design of the not-Volt energy guns, Prowler made regular loot again and either the Charge Rifle or Devotion yeeted into the void of care package guns. Also once again, nuke Estates and Waterfall.

I think there was something about the Scout being reclassified again into a new Marksman weapon class, along with the 3030 and bow, so maybe that will be a new ammo type?

In that case the light LMG would slot into where the Scout used to be in the light weapon pool

I do wonder if they'll have to pull a Fortnite and start vaulting weapons at some point though

does apex really need a sixth ammo type to dilute the pool even further? It's sometimes already difficult enough finding ammo for a gun as is

Desert Heat? I thought it was Dessert Heat. No wonder it tastes so bad.

Yeah, if anything I want them to rotate some weapons out of the pool each season. Adding more weapons and ammo types are just going to make it more of a scavenging simulator. The reason why the no white loot ltm was so good was because it made looting efficient and got you to the action. The looting is and will forever be the more boring part of the game, so anything to lean away from that is for the better.

Sniper and Marksman as competing weapon types seems dumb.

Hopefully they're dropping a couple of the current snipers and rolling them into the Marksman instead. Sentinel, Triple Take, 30-30, G-7, and Actual Bow seems like a perfectly fine weapon group, especially if they didn't have their own separate loot pool for scopes and stocks.

I'm cool with P2020 or Mozam for drop weapon, and the "drop with white everything" mode from the start of the season really makes me wish this were the case.

RE45 has significantly higher DPS than both, especially off the drop

I'm a Cold War fanatic - it was my favorite gun in TF2 and I actually bought the dumb 5 dollar skin for it - but it wouldn't work in Apex. The entire gimmick of the gun is that it's a pretty good area-of-effect weapon and if you get above another player they're dead. Put this into Apex and you've got Horizon + other vertical mobility Legends absolutely making GBS threads on everyone. Or they change the gun so much that it's not the Cold War anymore, either way not great. :(

Seriously they shouldn’t be adding so many weapons that make the skill ceiling even higher; the ceiling is super high already. If anything they should introduce a gun that requires a lower skill to use to stop frustrating the player base.

Bows are super loving annoying to play against. At least TF2 sniper and Overwatch Hanzo do 1 hit kills with arrow headshots, so I figure it will be like that here.

The frustrating thing is that they can miss 99% of their shots and then just making one random headshot will win the round for them. They have a high skill ceiling to land to be able to land every shot, but you really don't need to do that. So the skill floor is actually extremely low.

The niche of the precision weapon that can be charged up for more damage or fired quickly for less damage is already filled by the Triple Take and the 30/30. I expect that the bow is going to have a different gimmick to it than being a Hanzo clone, and I wouldn’t be surprised if “the bow is cool, so everyone is going to want to use the bow, so it should have a low skill floor” came up in a design meeting.

I am just tired of getting 2 "drop and die and quit" pubbies as teammates all the time and going up against clear 3 stacks that are way too good for the lobbies they're in. And it's not any better in Ranked, I'm just forced to play through match solo or get a 10-minute timeout. "Just don't solo queue" you're all saying, but literally all my nice and fun teammates have left. I know their player numbers are incredibly good right now but I'd never know it.

Very controversial opinion, but this is why I loved the concept of the smart pistol from a design standpoint back when they introduced it in Titanfall 1. It's also just very neat concept to have a gun that does something other than 'fire bullets in a straight line'

It would take some effort but I'm sure they could make it work, the lock on has an inherently limited range, and very rarely in apex can you get that close to another squad without being noticed. But again, I understand the majority of the community just HATES it as a concept.
