I think its probably just an averaging thing, tbh. Average skill level of squads has to be X, high players skew high so the MM gives them slightly lower players to balance it out.

This is all entirely theory because hey, i don't work in respawn, but its how its worked in other games. This also explains why you get good streamers who consistently get teammates who can't hit the broad side of a barn, because they're gold players getting chucked into diamond games.

You can actually see this in effect if you install a bunch of the add ons that show you the rank of the people you interact with.

Anyone notice they changed the colorblind options? I used the tritanopia option because it would make the dot sight crosshair yellow instead of red but now they changed the damage number colors around so i cant tell if someone is flesh or has gold shield/white shield. I am guessing the new colors are better for people that actually have color blindness but for me it was perfect before. Really need an option to change crosshair/dot sight colors. The red is too hard to see when in the gas or on certain locations like the lava areas of Worlds edge.

As a season 0 player this mode is REALLY fun! Seeing all the different POI's that got destroyed by future seasons is nice and gives me a bit of nostalgia to the good old times where predators didn't gently caress me every single game! Good times!

they've definitely changed it - difference between flesh, gold shield or headshot is extremely hard to tell now
i'm reasonably annoyed about it, but i know lots of people used the tritanopia option for the same reasons we were so enough outrage might get them to revert even if actually colourblind people lose out :(
either that or eventually proper ui colour customisation

My 2 cents on the getting to play the OG maps finally: Kinda negative. On KC literally the entire server drops Skulltown or adjacent with games pretty regularly becoming 6 squads before the first ring even start closing. :psyduck: The rest of the map is something I'd like to explore but it's pretty much impossible if you also want to play the game, as you're incredibly unlikely to see another squad if you don't drop near Skulltown.

OG World's Edge is kind of fun even if it still suffers a lot from a lot of people dropping Fragment and a whole bunch of less interesting POIs overall. Train is fun but I also see why it was removed. Way way better colors, current WE is so drat drab in comparison.


What I'm saying here is that Olympus is the best map.

One day of OG maps is kinda enough for me. I'm not against Skulltown (I actually do like that part) but rotations and loot density has improved so much with the later iterations. I kind of wish they'd drop two of those weapon vault container things on opposite ends of skulltown, and maybe one at thunderdome. Would make contesting those zones on a hotdrop much more interesting.

Pick Octane, Pathfinder, Horizon, or Valkyrie to get that sweet, sweet vertical movement. Get a Bloodhound on your team to scan so you can find people in early game. Skulltown felt more dynamic to me than the other arenas maps bc the verticality breaks up the standoff points a bit.

Yeah, I'm glad they updated it for the colorblind people but it really sucks not being able to use it. It's so much easier to see people when ADSing using the yellow dot instead of the red.

This happens on every map beyond a certain skill level. On Olympus it's Estates/Gardens&energy, we all know what it is on WE, on new KC it's that big Jungle Gym. Whether it's a cultural thing or the fact that the most difficult badges to attain are for individual performances like 20K/4K badges, it just creates a certain dynamic where way too many teams land super hot leading to what you described. In ranked obviously this isn't quite as big a problem because placement actually helps you in some way but in pubs that's simply not the case, there's no reward for placement or teamwork.

We'll fix this, completely break ranked, and not fix any of the hacking/DDOSing/audio problems/dead sliding that have been around for the last 1-2 years. Priorities man!

As an actual colorblind person, I'm extremely happy that the modes exist (I use the deuteranopia one myself) - but proper UI color customization would be perfect.

Random fact: Revenant can climb high enough to rotate *over* Bunker on KC.

That being said, it is an out of bounds zone, but you can make it over in <30 seconds before you die.


Might be useful for ranked if KC comes back in Ranked rotation. Granted, you can't take your teammates with you as a Revenant, but if you're trying to squeeze out placement with bunker being gatekept, it's a possibility.

I regularly play with Plat-Diamond goons and regularly see Masters/Pred trails when playing unranked. I assure you I am extremely familiar with how certain areas gather a disproportionate number of people, but even on current WE and KC it's at least the first ring almost closed by the time "6 squads remain" happens. Hell, you even get 8-10 squads remaining more often than not! While my experience might change after getting to play more of OG KC, I don't foresee Skulltown killing entire servers before the first ring even starts closing changing too much if it ends up being on the flight path.

Olympus especially doesn't suffer from Skulltown/Fragment syndrome nearly as much because there's multiple hot drop places people love to skirmish in, including but not limited to: Bonsai, Oasis, Estates, Gardens, Energy, Fight Night. Sure, most people do drop sooner than later for the closest of those but you'll get around 3-4 squads actually staying in the dropship to the very end of its flight path if Bonsai or something is at that end of it.

I've really been enjoying skull town but it's absolutely a place that has rando pubs leave as soon as they get knocked. With most people being bad at even dropping, people drop late, die and quit constantly

As Rev, you can pretty easily tread water on the side of a cliff by punching the wall on the way down and restarting your climb.

actually this seems inconsistent, sometimes if gives you a much shorter climb the second time around

problem is that skulltown and thunderdome are the only notable landmarks on s0 kings canyon

the rest is just... a way more boring version of modern KC with a million copy paste buildings that were later paved over with more interesting stuff

Yeah idk, the difference between 6 vs 8 teams after ring one is kinda minimal to begin with and most teams just die off drop at the places you mention right away. Energy and gardens (same with energy and labs honestly) might as well be combined into one because teams usually fight at one and jump tower to the other or just third party the other after looting. Either way most teams die off drop or shortly after to a third party and you generally have a lull until a fight happens at labs, depot, or turbine which turns into a third party fest that the whole server joins. With WE it’s mostly fragment, sorting, countdown/skyhook but the end result is pretty similar, usually 6-10 teams left after ring one. The mirage Voyage helped spread things out a little more on that map when it was around.

Either way I feel like blaming the map kinda misses the point that people play pubs for kills and make a ton of bad pushes early and often. The issue is more the overall mentality of players in pubs than the map itself. I get why people don’t play ranked but it seems like the only mode where people spread out on drops and actually try and place higher rather than just saying “gently caress it” and pushing everything no matter how stupid.
