So how's the Switch version holding up so far? I'm torn between that and Steam, my computer's on the older side (GTX 1060 and a 4670k) so I'm not sure how well it'll run and I do like portability (you know, once I actually start going outside again.), but on the other hand I'm hearing stuff like running it on Steam off of an SSD is gonna load way, way faster than the Switch version does.

Base PS4 gets an easy and consistent 60 fps even on visual mode. Anyone with a midrange PC from the past decade should be fine.

I get that it's a 'well it really does nothing, doesn't it', but it's just a part of the system that's gonna have to be handled. I think I missed when the game explained Requests to me, because I killed some named Silkie and it said I completed a request that I didn't even know I had.

about to wrap up the 6th jail. i dunno how close to the end i am but it looks like they tweaked a bunch of persona weaknesses. if you were hoping to make some insane immune to everything persona in this one i dont think its going to happen.

The Switch is fine, I play it almost exclusively on handheld. There's some noticeable loading times at the start but nothing too bad. Starting the fourth dungeon now, everyone but Makoto has their full skillset unlocked which means I could just go back to maining Joker 90% of the time. Favourite non-Joker characters to control is still probably Haru, everyone but Ann and Makoto feel fine as an occasional.

anyone on PC getting some really weird aliasing? The portraits look totally fine, but the 3D graphics and the text have some extreme jaggies even with graphics maxed and render scale at x2.0. (note characters in the back)![]() I made these changes in nvidia control panel and it made the 3D graphics look a bit more like they're supposed to, but the text still has some weird "fuzz" that wasn't there when I played the original persona 5. ![]()

Turn off anti-aliasing in-game for the font stuff. I did the same thing in the nVidia Control Panel and it's kinda the best you can get, really.

Finished the game. Plot impressions: lol they speedran Vanilla Persona 5 and it's obvious that the writers for P5S and P5R were sharing notes, although it was executed much, much better in P5R in my opinion. Removing time management and compressing everything into one month probably hurt the overall narrative, but obviously this is a spinoff so it wouldn't be realistic to demand as much story meat as P5R. Thankfully P5's characters are so strong that the comparitively thin narrative didn't bother me that much, but if someone came in on this game they wouldn't get the full experience of why P5 is so loving good. That being said, I enjoyed the gameplay a lot and think that it almost certainly has more replay value than P5R. It will never happen in a million years but I would love to see P5R remade with P5S's combat system.

I usually just swap to him right when I see the boss about to hit me, makes the timing way less lax. Also, bear in mind that the counterattack doesn't have full invul frames, so Yusuke can still get hit during it if the boss won't get stunned from the counter.

Two jails down so far, really liking this one a lot. I kinda thought it would just be some lazy cash in but nah, it's a legit sequel and brings a visual flair and OST that matches if not out does the first. My only real complaint so far is that I don't think Persona's "always an inch from death" battle system translates well to a musou. I can barely tell what's happening in battle half the time, so for enemies to just blindside and kill you out of nowhere is really frustrating. I ended up just bumping the difficulty down to easy and it seems a lot more sensible all around.

I've cleared the game on Hard and I can tell you confidently that in most circumstances this is a "you should never not be doing something" action game. If you aren't attacking you should be dodging pretty much constantly and you should always be ready to drop whatever it is you're doing with a dodge in an instant. The game is pretty generous with your ability to cancel things into dodges. Furthermore, in my experience crowd control should usually take priority over focusing big enemies because the little guys will constantly be trying to gently caress up your movement. As in Persona 5, inflicting status effects is really strong if you can't outright kill things and can be used against bigger enemies as your "gently caress off and wait your turn" option while you go clean up the rabble. You also need to pay attention to attack types and resistances. If you have a balanced Persona loadout you can easily switch to one that absorbs or nulls the element the enemy is casting with in a pinch and get some free healing and free attacks. One nice thing is that at least so far, there's no 'this party is OP'. You want at least one of Morgana/Makoto/Sophie most likely, but otherwise everyone's fairly interchangeable and most of them bring some kinda utility or just nice big chunky damage. Recarm is way more valuable here so Makoto not having it means she's not an auto-include. I think Sophie *generally* beats out Morgana just because she gets Divine Grace, but not to the degree that endgame Makoto outclassed Morgana in vanilla P5. As an aside, I ran into my first Dire Shadow and whew howdy I barely got to about half of its life bar before deciding 'okay, I've exhausted my resources, this is not worth it'. Roughly what levels are you expected to take those on?

If you're having trouble with the combat you're probably not dodging enough. poo poo's like Hades. Dodge dodge dodge dodge dodge.

On Hard mode they started to fall for me at about level 54+ with some patience. Don't be afraid to play lame with Joker's infinite ranged attacks, it's a viable strategy against some of the particularly tanky enemies.

Also one thing that is almost a shame is that the game doesn't always telegraph when an environmental item is of limited use. This is particularly noticeable for the first and third dungeon bosses when you're expected to use an environmental item to disrupt the boss, but you only have so many uses of them and if you're just going 'oh hey, A prompt or follow-up, let's go' then you run out very quickly. It's a lesson that's easily learnable, but still.

Is there any way to get party members that aren't in your party to get XP (like a future bond skill)? I noticed they don't seem to gain XP when out of party.

They do seem to get at least a small percentage of EXP from the bench, but otherwise I just rotate my thieves around every so often.

Since you can switch party members freely without leaving the dungeon IIRC, when exploring dungeons I found it a good tactic to switch people out for the B-team when they ran out of SP.

Another Yusuke Tip: 4x Basic Attack to Special has counter frames while he's winding up for the big huge swing. It's a combo you'll wanna be doing pretty often too anyways because it puts the High Counter buff on him without countering anything. It seems to have a longer window to catch attacks too, I've definitely triggered counters off it a pretty decent amount of the time.

It's actually a shame that after a while the game just no longer needs you to interact with the Mussou-style gameplay of using all your basic attack string and combos. They're still useful especially for the free spells or things like 'Haru's guns and spins get better' but I've never needed like Sophie's gravity bullets or 'oh Ann's fire whips are better now' after a while. Which is good because I'm bad at it and the game is still pretty fun, but eh.
