FSFunky posted:I’m glad the voice actor of Tabby has been said out loud now so I can finally figure out why it sounded so familiar. I tried looking out for it in the credits but unless I missed it, I’m not sure it’s in there. It's Carlos Luna, isn't it? He's done work like that before, in addition to being a player in other D20 shows.

yeah he's credited as 'head of production' or 'head of series' on like two d20 seasons on imdb. i don't know what any of that actually means in hollywood terms but seems like he does fairly regular production stuff for them

He was Dr. Wernebocker in Burrow's End as well

if smartypants and nobody asked traded names the shows probably would not change at all

I have to say, I find it kind of hard to gleam from the trailer what exactly the format of Nobody Asked is going to be, but I'm extremely down for the concept.

mythbusters but, presumably, with less recaps and breaks for commercials

kidcoelacanth posted:if smartypants and nobody asked traded names the shows probably would not change at all See I think it's more "Nobody Asked" and "Thousandaires" giving off the same (disappointing) vibe. Smartypants is essentially pitches for Nobody Asked with the acknowledgement that the concept is what's funny, not the execution. The creators and audience's imagination makes endless possibilities instead of the reality of potentially disappointing execution. And they're making a show where they try to execute.

I don’t think I’ve ever actually seen a single mythic bust. Although I know what it is due to cultural osmosis, I think.

Looks like it's going the route of "backyard scientist" youtubers? Like, here's a zany thing we can do, watch us try to do it live. Style.... thing? I'm with yall on the trailer, pretty ambiguous. Ele had a really funny Dirty Laundry ep.

how much jazz does it take to fill a balloon? is jazz one of those replacement words that video makers do to get around monetization or something? like unalive?

from ally to zacky mainly just made me want to go watch the brennan and izzy special again as well as appreciating sam reich's ability to give all these random improv comedians good things to work with

it seems fine but "taped live show of an improv team" is not nearly as compelling as their other live content

I found From A to Z to be far more palatable than Izzy and Brennan's thing.

I’ve discovered something about how I prefer my improv content when like 4 times during From Ally to Zacky I was longing for Sam Reich to buzz in to end the scene.

Yeah, improv is really helped out when it has an "Okay, we get it" button to balance out the performers' "Yes, and" impulse

It's also important to note that, by Sam's own admission, Dropout usually does a "buzzer" in the form of editing, cutting out the majority of what's actually attempted. That becomes far more difficult in longer scenes. Honestly, it's a testament to both the performances and editing of VIP; Pretty seamless edits, and an awareness by both performers to not make any bit too long.

Still annoyed that Middlevitch was a pest as I thought the show he did with Ben Schwartz was astounding in how borderline coherent it was while being an hourish long improv scene.

My spouse and I enjoy most of Gastronauts, but this last episode has left us sour on this batch of judges. Luke stating to a professional chief "I could make this" when tasting the stuffed mushrooms felt highly disrespectful. After that most of the episode was just pointing out how much shade the judges were throwing. Also, no matter how delicious Olive Garden is to them, not telling the Italian chef that their food tastes like that is also a good thing to do.

I took that as him saying “this is a thing I would want to make” I actually thought this was absolutely the sweetest episode of the show this far. It’s the episode I want to show my parents

Gastronauts isn't as bad as Thousandaires, but overall I find it to be an extremely boring show. Honestly, it led me to re-watches of the Try Guys cooking shows ("Phoning It In" and "Without a Recipe",) and was reminded how funny and well-constructed/edited a "Comedian involved internet cooking show" can be.

I think it would work as a collaborative show, three chefs trying extra hard to make a thing to the delight of people who are funny? Oh wait do chefs work with other chefs or are they solo hunters, stalking their prey by themselves?

Maybe it's just something with them as personalities that clash with my spouse and I if what was presented could be read as loving. Honestly, Jess was the best member of the judges.

My D20 journey: I started with Fantasy High 1, then rolled over to Mentopolis and DSBU for the more improv/comedy role playing vs the long form technical seasons. I'm starting Starstruck and enjoying it. I definitely understand all the begging Brennan for advantage and other rule-bending to move the plot along, but it makes me curious what a side quest (or even full quest) could look like with complete permadeath ruthlessness, like a NetHack level of indifference to character suffering.
