It is perhaps the most ingenious thing about Taskmaster. You really get to meet comedians throughout the ten episodes, and I don't think anyone's done it "playing a character". A few have dropped their act to be on it. It's great.

If you want to give it a whirl, may I suggest starting w/ season 7: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dudmIc5AWR0&t=16s. Widely accepted as one of the best. There's a few bits that track over the seasons, but for the most part each season is it's own self-contained world. No real reason to start at the first one, unless you like seeing them get their sea legs.

For new episodes, the one Zooks is on, there is a panelshow subreddit that usually has them shortly after their air. That said, they've been really playing to the US market by posting full episodes a few days later on YT even for the new stuff.

Cool, thanks for the info!! I figured it would go on YT, but like after the whole season airs, or in parts. Nice to know I can check it out and keep up with it weekly.

i wouldn't start with season 7 tbh but it's mostly because i think that rhod gilbert, though funny on his own, is possibly the worst-for-taskmaster contestant they've ever had and i find his antagonism towards the show and the other contestants hard to stand on a rewatch (which sucks, because james acaster is possibly my favorite contestant they've ever had). not the best introduction to the show for that reason; i'd either jump into 4 or 5 or just start from the top and see how they figure out what works and doesn't work for the series

edit: i know rhod is part of why a lot of people like season 7 but it's pretty clear that he was on the show to mess with greg over everything else, and even if it gives the in-studio stuff a kick it doesn't lead to great stuff in the other 3/4 of the show. to this day i think he's still the only contestant to actively decide to sabotage his teammates in a task for a lark

There's something about Taskmaster that gets people to break down and reveal how deeply weird they actually are and it's great.

To each their own, but "the contestant that actually knows the Taskmaster outside of the series and refuses to accept their authority" is a pretty get contestant archetype. Futile and juvenile, perfect setup and punchline every time. TMZ2 has Matt Heath in that role, and the recent season of AUS had one too in Mel. Feels a little presumptuous to say he was only invited on to "mess with greg", the guy does great stuff outside of that too. Sorry for ya that seeing Greg Davies near-naked body for nearly every prize task was a turnoff.

That's part of the charm of the New Year Treat's too - even putting regularish people on the show usually ends up being pretty revealing. We're all one task involving rubber ducks away from showing the world our true colors.

How Game Changer hasn't done their own Taskmaster yet boggles my mind unless Sam is making a legit pass at getting involved in the inevitable US reboot.

Only didn't recommend that one because it is the best. Been very heartwarming to hear in the podcast that all the contestants are still in a group chat together and regularly chit chat. Gah what a good series that is.

oh no I'm great with healthy antagonism, I'm talking about how rhod straight up has said in interviews that he didn't have a great time on the show, was mainly there to troll greg, and regrets not having familiarized himself with what the show was like so he could've approached it less antagonistically. it's not presumptuous if it's a thing he actually said lol

in one of the same interviews he talks about going too far with Alex to the point that health and safety had to step in and say they couldn't air the segment (apparently he stuffed a full egg into Alex's mouth)

NZ2 is the desert dessert after you get hooked on the show. Once you've watched it you can't watch it for the first time again.

Right now I'd recommend UK15 or UK16 to start.

e: nm, the correct starting series is UK13.

He's the face of dropout and I don't think he's going to leave their second biggest show right as they are (seemingly) beginning to really take off. Plus he's only 40.

Robot Style

The behind-the-scenes feature for Sam Says 3 mentioned one of their ideas was to initiate a game of tag that would lead them to a second set of podiums in the Vasquez Rocks where they would continue the game, so I could see them developing that into a new idea.

Or it could just be that whatever episode uses the brick backdrop added Same's face to the sign on the door as a subtle gag and it doesn't actually mean anything.

unsurprisingly someone on reddit has taken a swing at this speculation

spoilered so that people can be fully surprised if they want to:

> Groups confirmed:
>
> Brennan Lee Mulligan, Ify Nwadiwe, Katie Marovitch (with themed flags on their podiums)
> Ally Beardsley, Zac Oyama, Lisa Gilroy (includes dissing Sam)
> Jeremy Culhane, Anna Garcia, Oscar Montoya (the wheel episode)
> Gianmarco Soresi, Josh Johnson, Jeff Arcuri (crowd work)
> Mike Trapp, Rekha Shankar, Jordan Myrick (seems to be something like Shark Tank?)
> Vic Michaelis, Jacob Wysocki, Lou Wilson (costumes are involved)
> Huge game: Vic Michaelis, Aabria Iyengar, Raph Chestang, Ally Beardsley, Demi Adejuyigbe -- and probably more people
> Red curtain episode: Demi Adejuyigbe, Zach Reino, Ele Woods, Erika Ishii, and probably more players?
> Becca Scott, Izzy Roland, Lily Du, Sephie Valentine, Ele Woods, Angela Giarratana, Jiavani, Erika Ishii (seems like a teambuilding/human knot thing??)
> Jacob Wysocki, Jeremy Culhane, Kimia Behpoornia, Kurt Maloney (not sure what this game is -> may be the same stage/episode as #9??)
> Team game (prediction - Color Wars/Capture the Flag/some summer camp game):
> Team 1: Izzy, Erika, Ify, Katie, Grant O'Brien
> Team 2: Brian David Gilbert, Tao Yang, Rekha, Becca (I think?), Jiavani
> Other people shown: Geoff Ross (unsure what his role is?), Paul Robalino, Chris Grace, Keith Habersberger, Zach Kornfield, Paul F. Tompkins, Ranboo (as cameos/guests)
