In desperation I installed windows 11 and it seems to have fixed the specific issue I was having. and honestly it’s not that much worse than windows 10, which made me realize I had gotten used to how annoying windows 10 was in the first place

microsoft laid off an ethics and society team that was supposed to guide ai development. on one hand, too on the nose to even be funny. on the other, I’m sure they had exactly zero influence ever and there are three other teams with an identical purview still operating somewhere in the ms hierarchy

i also kind of wonder how much nuts-and-bolts ai microsoft do themselves at this point, publicly at least they're certainly on the openai train.

my parents ancient pc died last week and i had to throw something together for them quickly, which wasn't compatible with 7 so i had to install windows 10 gently caress me it's just an endless list of tiny annoyances. it's like they deliberately went out of their way to set up everything wrong live traffic updates and weather reports in the taskbar. who greenlights this poo poo?

i mean as far as that goes some vr/ar/whatever support in the os seems cool and good, narrow use, but it was probably also not some huge effort. even then adding "paint 3d" as a demo app for the apis seems reasonable. but what does *not* make sense is asking oneself "well, where will every single windows user want to put all their 3d models?!"

I maintain the wmr home is much better than steam vr home, better optimized, much faster to load , easier to interact with. ms weirdly had a much better handle on vr interactions than valve to start with

so you can drag+drop pinned chats in Teams to reorder them. had no idea it was a feature so i freaked out when i misclicked and suddenly i was dragging an entire chat across the monitor
|

cool feature, would like to be able to pin chats in different categories though for like my team, product folks, devops team, etc

at some point they started making active calls float over the whole rest of the interface and while i can kinda see why they chose to do that i'd still prefer it if they remained confined to the tab for that call

I'm shocked by how much I hate Teams now that I have to use it on a daily basis I'd rather have separate apps for meetings, chat and document collaboration than one giant piece of poo poo that tries to do everything badly
