My guess is since he died but, you know ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Shame Boy posted:I def remember seeing it on twitter when he twooted it, live, yeah. What is the word for this? Not ironic...just like...schadenfreude? Or prescient in a way? Sherry Bahm posted:That said, all the things you say and do don't really matter all that much when you're spiraling down the whirlpool of suicidal ideation. It's why so often that one second of hesitation or being pulled out by another can make all the difference. Man v true. I'm p stable these days and rarely have suicidal ideations like I did before (every minute of every day), but I had to claw my way here and I'm still clawing in a way every day. But that loving suicidal ideation spiral is stupid hosed and I wish that on no one and I hope anyone who is going through that and reading this should know that there can be a light at the end of the tunnel if you make your way towards it. I don't wish that on Lowtax even. This whole situation is fuckity hosed hosed.

Say what you will about Lowtax, but this place has been my internet home for the past 20 years and I will always cherish it that way. Regardless of what he was behind the screen, he brought us all together through this place and it’s influence can still be felt throughout internet culture. I will not celebrate his death nor his life but I will at least hope he found peace. I owe him that much. Great people have done lovely things and lovely people have done great things. One’s character is not a measure of their value to society. To his family: please understand that few of us knew him personally but most of us did not condone his behavior. We do not hold anything against you personally here. I would hope that maybe you will at least find some happiness in this place as it was his legacy to the world and it did bring happiness to a lot of us.

RoboChrist 9000 posted:So people were joking about the irony of EBaum outliving Lowtax; what's Ebaum - and his world - up to? Is the site even still around and if so is he still affiliated with it beyond the name? Wikipedia posted:The site was created and owned by Eric "eBaum" Bauman and his father, Neil. In August 2007, eBaum's World was acquired by HandHeld Entertainment, also known as ZVUE Corporation, for $15 million up front, $2.5 million in HandHeld stock and up to $52.5 million in cash and stock over 3 years. Still kicking, but not what it was in that early internet era. That is, if Wikipedia is right, so grain of salt on the information and all that.

Tom Collins posted:At the very least, it forces you to look back at it all, and man, weird, strange, inexplicable things of all sorts happened here and because of him, directly or indirectly. Makes it clear there's no real narrative to history; why him, why all of this? There's no drat reason at all. Right place at the right time explains basically everything. I don't know what the gently caress this says about me, but Lowtax dying has me thinking about life, far more so than when I've lost relatives. That a man creates something (almost in spite of himself) that grows into this enormous, culturally important thing, fails to capitalize on it, and then caps it all off with a hot one to the dome. It's just loving.... I don't know. Strange, and sad, and weird.
