i'd certainly rather have gray hair in high school than be balding in high school like a guy i knew. if nothing else it gives you a good excuse and starting point to dye it weird colors

Went bald in high school but then did the Patrick Stewart thing where it didn’t look like he aged for 40 years.

I can speak from firsthand experience that I’d rather have my red hair turn white than to have fallen out, but I at least didn’t try to fool anyone and just shave my head now god going white instead of bald at 23 would have ruled

Signed up for German class at the local community college that starts right after my job ends but it got cancelled :< Now I can either sign up for in-person level 1 which I'm not sure I'd learn much or remote-only Level 2/3 which I'm sure I wouldn't learn much because I hate remote poo poo

i'm pretty socially awkward/nervous so i would have hated becoming a professor. like the thought of teaching being a significant portion of my duties is, frankly, terrifying. i hope you become a fancy professor mr. nice (if you want that) the thing that intimidated me the most was that i was at a decent grad school for my field, but when i looked at the professors it was all princeton grads or yale grads or whatever so i always got the feeling i had no chance given the numbers. the colleagues i know who did become professors ended up at smaller schools without grad programs and were teaching more basic courses while doing research on the side. probably easier to get a spot at compared to a big public institution but idk how difficult that is. at least one is tenured though.

Eeyo posted:i'm pretty socially awkward/nervous so i would have hated becoming a professor. like the thought of teaching being a significant portion of my duties is, frankly, terrifying. when i was younger there was nothing i hated more than giving presentations. i was extremely quiet and socially awkward and hated getting haircuts because it meant people would notice me the next day. i would have panic attacks and flop around and moan when once a year we had to give a speech in english class. public speaking was the worst torture imaginable. now i have a job where i give presentations 4-6 hours a day 4 days a week and it's great. public speaking fires me up and i love being the center of attention. i will talk for as long as you let me about any subject you like. sometimes my friends in tech are freaking out about a presentation they have to give and i'm like lol, just give me your slides an hour beforehand and i'll do it for you, idgaf. point is it's a skill you can develop and become comfortable doing, if you want to.
