Apocalypse z the beginning of the end Spanish, one of the better "start of the apocalypse" films I've seen in a while. Pretty by the books but very well done. I enjoyed the bold approach of making the main character almost completely devoid of personality, just a focal point for the camera to follow around watching poo poo go down. Not sarcasm. |

i watched a scanner darkly again, ive seen it before great adaptation by linklater this time i noticed that when the med tech says why not get her some flowers it works as a subliminal trigger for arctor to put the blue flower in his sock later which is probably really obvious but hadn't noticed it yet

Not quite a movie, but an episode of "The Wide World of Mystery" from 1975 called Alien Lover, starring a 20 year old Kate Mulgrew. |

i watched 2025: the world enslaved by a virus. it was very clunky and awkward, which, funnily enough, made the dialogue more authentic, with its "like"s and "so, anyway"s. |

watched Bedknobs and Broomsticks with the kids. i haven't seen that since i was a kid and it ruled. great music, really charming visual effects. i watched a really great video of some VFX artists explaining the unique pre-blue screen compositing technique they used with amber lighting and a special lens prism. same technique was used for Mary Poppins and it holds up really well. https://youtu.be/UQuIVsNzqDk |

i watched mind body spirit. the video diary format didn't really work - it wasn't a bad idea as such, but the implementation didn't really commit to the bit. it reminded me of a dark song. |

I watched a bunch of stuff: sword of doom a 1966 samurai movie, heroes shed no tears (an early john woo) and for some reason a lot of rock n roll high school. i was curious to see what the ramones looked like when filmed properly but i came away liking the ramones less than i did before. i didn't finish it. yes i get it the ramones are the coolest band in the world. yes i get it the ramones are the coolest band in the world. yes i get it the ramones are the coolest band in the

I watched the Gundam GQuuuuuuX (pronounced quacks) movie, which is a movie edit of the first few episodes of the new series GQuuuuuuX. It's fun to watch gundam this loudly and going in blindly it seems kinda frontloaded with the alternate UC timelines stuff but the main characters are fun and Char is somehow gayer than he's ever been

I have a fondness for the video quality/style of 90s or early 2000s Japanese indie movies. Last night I started Speed and fell asleep. Today I watched Castaway.

Areola Grande posted:how did u feel about it compared 2 the show? Season 1 I mean i mean if you like the show it's kind of a must watch imo. like it has different vibes and it dives headfirst into the darkness the original run of the show only hints at so i can see that being a bit off putting if ur not into that, but it just gives so much life to the character of laura palmer, and season 3 is very contingent on that. so like the literal answer is "it's darker, more r-rated, and in widescreen" but i can't really think about them separately. it is a part of the show. either way it's extremely good

Siberia. A mildly interesting subversion of the 'Keanu Reeves plays a badass killer who takes on the Russian mob' genre, in which Keanu Reeves plays an rear end in a top hat with delusions of grandeur who takes on the Russian mob and gets killed for his trouble. The end. It's pretty dull though and honestly I wouldn't recommend it. |

Watched IT'S WHAT'S INSIDE (2024) last night, about a group of friends reuniting 8 years after college to celebrate a wedding, but getting more than they bargained for when someone brings a weird briefcase to the party containing a device that, uh... mixes things up. I think it fits nicely in between pure horror comedy like Heart Eyes and "horror awkwardness" like All My Friends Hate Me. Closest companion might be Bodies Bodies Bodies but with a different kind of twist. It revolves around a light/grounded sci-fi premise and then explores different character's reactions to this strange circumstance. I thought it did a good job of taking the premise pretty far. Sometimes movies like this introduce a weird concept and then the characters don't explore it as far as it could go and it leaves you saying "Well if that'd been me, I would've done X Y and Z." In this film, characters do X Y and Z. It's also shot really stylishly with some snappy editing and fun sequences. I'm a sucker for weird camera movements, weird filters, and weird montages, but YMMV if you want something a little more restrained. Even with this approach, the film still trusts the characters' words and facial acting to reveal character beats without always having to have a character explicitly say "When you said that, I realized what I really meant to you and it made me feel this way." or whatever. For me, this was just a pure fun thriller light on gore and heavy on character moments. I give it 4 out of 5 yonic art pieces* *little easter egg for people whomst'd've seen it already |
