I'm a fan of the Printing Plate Booklet. Upper Deck does them with their Marvel sets and I saw Topps started doing it with Star Wars. I did a quick search on eBay and it looks like UD has been doing them with hockey! https://www.ebay.com/itm/4051780746...ABk9SR4DFj9ayZA I always thought printing plates were cool but never liked when they stood in for a hit. I'll use this post to vent about being Canadian while buying on eBay. I can find a card for $2 or like $5, but then shipping is often $20+ CAD. I try to keep my eBay searches to Canada Only to keep shipping down, but this limits my purchasing options. That's is why I prefer SportLots or COMC for buying from the States, but there's not as much selection there compared to eBay.

Barf. 2023 Finest Flashbacks did that too and is one of the reasons that set is way worse than 2022. Bo Bichette being rare is a little unfortunate but the main side effect is there are fewer of each type of parallel. Since he’s not a rookie you at least don’t have that to inflate the price. Some guys like Luis Arraez had cards of multiple rarities in 2024 Finest, which also felt kinda lame.

What are y'all doing for card storage? I have maybe 100 raw cards and 20 graded. I bought one of those cardboard boxes (tall enough to fit slabs) but the cardboard, while tried and true, just feels so flimsy to me. I would have gotten a binder but I put all the raw cards in sleeves + top loader + team bag (lmao). Ideally I'd stick all these things into a binder or get a plastic box of some sort that won't disintegrate. I look inside this box and have probably spent 3k on it and it's still shocking to realize its 3k in plastic and cardboard.

There are other options besides the specific ones in his videos but just to give you an idea of what's out there.

I joined the Blowout Forums and a smaller site called https://sportscardclub.com/. Beckett seems very dead.

I deleted the Reddit, Twitter, and IG for the usual reasons and busy Discord servers are a bit too overwhelming to me. Maybe I just need to get with the times. Beckett, cardboardconnection and a few other sites more or less produce the same stuff Once a checklist has been in Beckett for a while they’ll have things divided up by teams so if I want all the cards in a product from a specific team I can see it pretty easily

I got back into collecting a few months ago when my parents dropped off my collection of garbage 90s wax that I hadn't looked at in at least 15 years. It has been fun, mildly overwhelming, and incredibly annoying getting into a hobby that is just more or less gambling for most collectors these days. I did a couple case breaks just to try and learn more about it, but between that and the inflated price of retail boxes, etc., I've realized it's actually more fun for me to sit on eBay at night for a couple hours and just fire off ridiculously lowball offers on cards that I'm interested in, and have actually been getting! I have a pretty decent local card shop as well, have only been a couple times, but it's been decent fun digging through $1 boxes, and then even more fun once I realized they had $5+ boxes behind the counter that they were willing to discount quite a bit for me once I started putting stacks together. As my Avatar would suggest, I'm focused on mainly collecting Pacers cards, and have decided that my goal is to try and get an auto card for every player who has even been on the team. Bball-ref led me to believe there were 393 of those, but my 2006 James White auto from Fleer would indicate that there are at least 394! I'm also trying to pick up most of the base cards from newer releases, but I personally think Prizm and Select are both garbage rear end sets, but I'm pretty into Recon, National Treasures, and a few of the other smaller print ones. A YouTube creator Packman's videos have been pretty great for understanding each of the different sets and what's in them, I more or less refuse to venture into Reddit, and most of the other places - IG, Whatnot, etc - are all just focused on commerce and selling/hawking bullshit $.50 cards for $5. Anyways, not the most interesting post but I'm trying to  more - once my latest shipment from COMC gets here, I'll try and take some pics of some of the more interesting pickups I've gotten.

Yeah everything on Whatnot is one of two things: 30% marked up from what you’d find on eBay, or driven by FOMO because it’s being offered on a ten second auction so you don’t have time to understand if you’re getting a fair deal (You never are)

Paceman has a long term sponsorship deal with Whatnot which I think subsidizes a decent amount of the spending and then he sells nearly everything on Whatnot as well. It’s a good gig if you can get it!
