I had a few BLACK RAIN eps in my music folder from a 'cyber mp3 bundle' a while back so had a listen, which put me on to one of their earliest releases which was originally meant to be the OST for JOHNNY MNEMONIC https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZmoK7LgK8M It's good moody ambient stuff.

the future is arriving faster and faster https://arxiv.org/abs/2301.00250quote:The results of the study reveal that our model can estimate the dense pose of multiple subjects, with comparable performance to image-based approaches, by utilizing WiFi signals as the only input. This paves the way for low-cost, broadly accessible, and privacy-preserving algorithms for human sensing. "privacy-preserving" only in the same way that having an alexa in your bedroom is more private than someone hiding a mic there ![]() distortion park fucked around with this message at 10:23 on Jan 18, 2023 |

distortion park posted:the future is arriving faster and faster https://arxiv.org/abs/2301.00250 not gonna read the paper but why are the wifi-based denseposes cut off in the same places as the furniture cuts off the image-based poses? ie the second row, the middle guy is cut off in the first image because hes behind a table, that makes sense. but in the wifi-based pose, he is also cut off. i guess the sitting guys legs could possibly be mistaken for the chair but why would it not model the standing guys legs?

it could be an error in the image creation, the person behind the table has recognized legs in the left image. the right one depicts a floating head and hand by the sitting person, too, which isn't in the left image

yeah there's a couple of things that seem to be false positives i haven't read the paper either and don't intend to, but it's pretty funny that a lot of us are like "yeah that's interesting but i'm not reading that" lol

ha, yeah, i started to look for how many wifi sources they used and then thought 'eh, i'm not reading all this'

i skimmed it and had a post ready but then i clicked the wrong button on my phone and lost it my vague understanding is that there are 4 NNs building on each other, one of which is trained by mimicking yet another network, so there are lots of places some error can creep in. it doesn't build a dense 3d image directly from wifi, it uses a network trained on wifi and camera to build a 2d "image" from 3 wifi signals, then does keypoint extraction on that "image" to detect humans and joints and stuff, then turns that into 3d. so probably if a keypoint gets missed that entire body part just vanishes. likewise in the second row it seems like it wrongly labelled part of a chair back as a head keypoint, and then hallucinated a whole 3d head model to go with it
