I'm sincerely interested in this use case. Could you expand a little on what you're after? Particularly I'd like to know what like a common bluetooth speaker wouldn't solve for your situation.

Back 15 years ago phones had headphone jacks, and so our little cafe just had an analog audio preamp sitting on a side table with a headphone jack coming out of it and instuctions for use (with invitation to do so) on a neat handwritten card next to it. That preamp was plugged into an input dialed to a medium level on the cafe's oundboard, so if there was no live band playing or anything special going on you could just plug your ipod or ifone in and go to town DJing a set using your phone or ipod. If you played poo poo the soundboard mixer was within reach from the bar so they'd just mute you and tell you to gently caress off.
I want my friends to be able to add songs to a shared playlist on a platform or whatever, and my phone to be able to play said playlist via a Bluetooth speaker. We did it once via a friend’s YouTube shared playlist but she had Platinum, from what I can tell.

I am not paying for YouTube platinum because I have Spotify platinum, and I don’t expect my friends to get a Spotify account purely for this single thing, should they not have one.

Having my friends connect and disconnect to a shared speaker seems kind of ridiculous. I don’t want to have to fiddle with a speaker while I may or may not be slightly drunk and filled with charcuterie.

I know the easiest answer is “get YouTube platinum and just cancel before the end of the trial” but I’m angry that there isn’t a less lovely solution.

okay.

I don't think there are any "official" ways to do it. In principle somebody could make an APK that bundles a twitter API client with an illicit youtube downloader and a simple audio playlist. Then as somebody shares a youtube link to the twitter account, the downloader would grab the audio track from the link and add it to the queue. But I dunno, this is still a super janky setup and most people don't want to deal with a) APK sideloading, b) twitter (gestures vaguely at elon)

e: I suppose you could hook it up so it scanned your incoming texts instead of twitter. It would still be jank

Do you need to have Spotify Premium to make use of the Public playlist feature?

Depending on how much effort you want to go to, Plex might be able to do this acceptably.

Oh, and Jones was there too.

Hmm. Yeah plex should be able to pick up stuff from Google drive or Dropbox and then automatically add and match it, so you could do that with either mp3s or saved yt videos and a shared folder. It might be a bit fussy with the matching, but you could give all your friends admin access so they can fix matches and/or rename stuff at will, or turn off automatch and just go off filenames. Your friends can even share a free plex account, I have one just for sharing.

Iirc no but I believe it’s so bot riddled it’s tricky to work with. You might need to have Spotify regardless though, and Spotify free is basically a “hey poor get premium” vehicle”

My friends have varying levels of tech expertise (and the ones reading this now I’m confident can fiddle with a Plex account), but others not so much.

Again, none of this is y’all’s fault, we had solutions that at one time were usable for everyone but alas, line go up for Daniel Ek.

Oh, and Jones was there too.

It's simple enough. For the non-techy ones you give them access to the shared account and they log into it through plex.tv, once you're in that's it, click the things you want.

It's getting stuff into plex, through a shared folder or into the system some other way, that's more of a pain.

I wonder if there's something simple you can just paste a YouTube url into and it'll dl to the correct folder.

Comedy answer, discord bot that picks up any yt urls sent to you and downloads then into a plex folder.

... A discord bot that maintains a playlist may be the answer.

This is the thing I was thinking about :

The thing is, I never use ANY of these extra features Spotify has so I'm clueless about them. This feature might not exist in this form anymore :v:

i was thinking vlc could play an m3u file from as ftp same as it could from http, like https://iptv-org.github.io/iptv/languages/eng.m3u

hell maybe it can. once the info is entered it saves it so you only have to explain it once. there is no "icon" tho.

I've been rocking a $20 Korg with a 1/4 inch input for like 30 years and honestly can't believe there's a market for lovely phone tuner apps.

This is the thing though, there's an app for EVERYTHING at this point and the fun part of the game is trying to find one that does what you need for a one-off fee and then just works. It seems everything is now subscription based which is another thing that has obviously gotten worse as time has gone on.

Too many apps, 99% of them complete trash.

I was referring to apps that do other poo poo, I would never imagine using an app to tune a musical instrument because tuners are a solved problem and cheap as chips. I guess this is what I'm on about, "there's an app for that" when actual hardware exists or purpose-built software that isn't poo poo....

It really sucks that Spotify is the only decent way to organize podcasts on a PC / laptop these days. AntennaPod is great...for phones, but there's nothing like it any more for computers it seems. Everything shut down or just went phone only.

Between that and the music playlists I've had going for 10+ years, I'm basically stuck with Spotify and not happy about it!

I did some tech support for a family member recently. His one drive was full and it absolutley crippled his system. Moved his stuff over to local drives and a 2 minute boot turned in to a 25 second boot. gently caress one drive. uninstall if you can.
