I’d rather eat a bullet than move back to a place dense enough where it makes sense to live without a car

Literally A Person posted:Tbf there are times I really enjoy driving. I live in a rural area and there are some drives that you're lucky to see another soul every 20 minutes or so. Zooming down by a beautiful river through maple groves down fun to drive curvy roads with no one else on the road is just amazing. Yeah, same. The frequent 10-15 minute drives to get groceries and stuff suck but the hour+ drive through the country to visit family and friends I do about once or twice a month is often very enjoyable.

That's fair. I just find driving very stressful/boring. Even if nobody else is on the road. Edit: I also absolutely hated the stress and costs of insurance and regular maintenance. I don't really know poo poo about cars and it's just not something that interested me. I also almost never had my own driveway or garage so even if I had the equipment it's not like I could do my own oil changes, etc. Escape From Noise fucked around with this message at 15:39 on Jul 30, 2024 |

The single use my car has is to drive me to my therapist's office once a week.

Normally don’t drive unless if at my mom’s, public transit bby. While I do miss driving, I could do without certain drivers and their insane LED headlights on at all times.

I just had my fully laden seven and a half ton lorry slam the brakes at 50mph cause a piece of paper blew in front of it. Made me very popular on the A9, let me tell you .

I know this is a ridiculous internet person thing to say, but I have health issues that sometime require quick access to a bathroom and it is much much easier to find a place, stop, and get back on the road in a car than it is to pull the cord, stop a bus, get off, find a place, then wait for the next one.

Things that are getting worse: I swear there's more stall pissers than ever before. Get the hell out of the stalls, get over yourselves, use the urinals. That's what they're there for. *Screed does not apply to certain obvious exceptions

Driving at 2AM is very relaxing, would recommend to anyone else who has insomnia issues

It's a neat trick lying to yourself to the point where the lies become reality, at least to you. Driving with few exceptions isn't fun. It's just the way it is, please stop trying to gaslight people into your disillusion.

Public transit is a great good, but public transit in the US is made purposefully bad to turn people off to the idea of it, and boy howdy does it loving work. You couldn't pay me enough to go back to waiting on the train platform for 20 minutes for the loving thing to show up, and then cramming my sweaty meaty body next to everyone else's bc it's taken so long there's no fuckin space. All while getting to hear everyone's music clashing together bc the percentage of people with good headphones is lower than you think, and some people just straight up dont use them and just treat their phone like a boombox. It's a sensory nightmare I'll only return to in desperation. As long as I can afford a car, I am clinging to it bc this simple luxury of being able to travel by myself has increased my experience of life one hundredfold. Claiming someone's opinion is an attempt to gaslight themselves and others is absolutely an instance of making gaslighting shittier. It used to mean something.

Public transit would mean getting to squeeze in more slay the spire on my phone so I would prefer that over driving if I had a choice honestly

Had a Mercedes E class rental over the past few days and holy poo poo that thing is going to be a nightmare during and after the lease expires. It was the model they just introduced with < 600 miles on it and already the dynamic lights weren't working. The lane assist was basically actively trying to kill you at all times, and the cameras perspectives were so warped that it was difficult to tell if you were actually close to something. And then it would jam on the brakes if you got close to plants or whatever. Give me a simple back-up camera and radar sensors for front/rear so I can tell where they are. Active cruise is nice too for stop and go traffic. Oh and the nav on it crashed and another time it stopped announcing nav instructions, all in just 3 days of driving it.

I am consistently loving floored that Discord is still what it is, which is a free Slack-like and VOIP client. What the gently caress are all these internet communities going to do if they decide to actually charge for this poo poo

I don't know how Discord manages to be so bad that any time I reluctantly use Discord I think I'd rather be using IRC. IRC sucks. I'm probably just old and can't handle these new fangled modern UIs.

hot cocoa on the couch posted:people keep telling me to "join the discord". im sick of it. im not gonna be a part of 200 discord channels Ugh, this is so bad with video games. Wikis are almost nonexistent now, and subreddits are barren and basically have one stickied post saying "here's the discord link". I just want to know one specific piece of information, why do I need to join a private community to find out how many macguffins i need to open this door?

Discord is pretty firmly in the process of densifying itself with advertisements to juice money out of folks now that they're over their growth phase. It's actively unpleasant to use

It'll be interesting to see what happens to the landscape when Discord eventually eats poo poo and dies and every game has their chest of info stores in Discord's garden. With Fandom pretty much killing Wikis bar a handful of hold-outs or just weird niche games. I always loving traumatized when I have to look at a Fandom Wiki and I'm not on one of my own devices with custom ad-blocker settings. ![]() P..people think that's ok?!?

It is funny how throughout middle school, high school, and college I was warned away from wikipedia as unreliable and unverified nonsense and now it's about 10 times the quality of 99% of the rest of internet.

Google seems to have removed easy ways to get to maps from search results. I noticed this recently when playing Fallout London and trying to look up landmarks, then saw this tiktok that talks about it too. Basically they removed the "maps" tab and the auto generated card for a location doesn't always include a place to click to open it in maps. Apparently it's an antitrust thing, like Google is not allowed to prioritise their own map product from searches any more.

This was bad advice even many years ago. The whole point of Wikipedia is that contributors are supposed to cite sources, so if you look something up there you can independently verify it yourself. But I guess the problem really was very stupid people copying entire articles for their essays. Which is even worse now that everyone is using lovely chat bots to write essays.

Correct. Poor students cite wikipedia. Good students cite wikipedia citations
