Can't get no luck.

I've been working on Completionist++ lately and so I have some insights:

Anaglyph deck seems the easiest/fastest way to do it until you have only a few jokers left, mainly because you can often get a large number of negative jokers. I had a bunch of runs where I would Gold 3-4 new jokers just off the back of that... but even when you have fewer jokers left, having negatives just gives you space to fit in "useless" jokers that you get no value out of.

Otherwise you have to be thinking like "Oh man how am I going to win with Idol, I need to build my deck around a duplicated single card AND find Idol and have enough other stuff to get through the rest of the game"... Nah you just get any old winning build ideally with some negative jokers to give you more space, try to build up cash til 'near the end, then jettison a low-impact joker near the end of the run and reroll the shop etc. til you find a joker you don't have gold on yet.

Also, the skip tags can be really good if instead of saving them ALL up til you find that one negative skip, you use a few earlier on to get something good like huge stacks of cash (with Economy, Investment or even Garbage/Handy skips), a few Mega Spectral packs to buff your deck/jokers in the early/mid game for an easy win, a couple of Rare/Uncommon jokers. See what you get and what you're lacking and try to fix it with a good skip stack. I've even had good usage from getting like 4x Orbital tags and buffing one hand up to like level 13 or whatever.

As it is, I was winning games and clearing 2+ new jokers in single runs up until I only had 6 jokers left to go with these strats. Now I only have 5 jokers left and I'm thinking about switching to another deck - probably Ghost or might give Plasma a try. Anaglyph will still work for me on the last 5 using the strats above - I guess I'm just a bit bored and looking for a change.

For those interested, the jokers I have left are:

Four Fingers (Purple sticker)
Loyalty Card (Red sticker)
Baron (Red)
Idol (No sticker)
Astronomer (No sticker)

Glad to have all of the legendaries, the jokers which only show up situationally (Glass, Golden Ticket, Steel, Stone, Lucky Cat), and the jokers which have innate expiry (Turtle Bean, Seltzer, etc.) already done. I think for some of the expiring jokers, I had to skip rounds in order to get to the end of a run before they disappeared.

I've been logging my runs and builds in Discord since I got down to 17 jokers left - I might do a full write-up here of that end stage once I'm done with it.

if you connect a bluetooth keyboard holding R actually works, but a more practical method would be nice

Yeah the blinds scale so fast it feels like Plasma really needs a solid build foundation by like Ante 3 or you just won’t be able to get enough score

EDIT: Wow, that was the fastest Cavendish I’ve ever gotten. Bought Riff-raff in the first shop, got Gros Michel from it on Big Blind and it destroyed itself at end of battle, and then got Cavendish from Riff-raff for Boss blind 1

Alternatively, I suggest the dog medicine strategy of having a build that's strong enough to carry dead weight. You hide the gold sticker pill in the cheese of actually good cards.

Breaking out the spreadsheet, my first Idol clear was Green Joker/Square Joker/Blackboard/Burglar/The Idol. The Idol did absolutely nothing, but with the first four jokers in that lineup, it didn't have to do anything.

Stroke of luck!

I just wrapped up a Five of a Kind / Flush Five build with the Idol, Sock & Buskin, and Lucky Cards doing most of the heavy lifting which felt great but it did require some planning and lots of re-rolls for Death and Hanged Man cards

Yeah that's pretty much what I'm saying with getting a ton of negative skips with Anaglyph. Mostly if you have 4 extra jokers and one or two of them are halfway impactful, you have some room for deadweight in the non-negatives.

God dammit.

All the way to acorn on Anaglyph orange with blueprinting blackboard doing most of the heavy lifting, along with a massively buffed single card planet, allowing me to ditch my reds and get a multiplier.

Then I skip to use up my three doubles, as it’s the last boss right?

Except they’re ‘hand +3’ each, so now I can’t get a good blackboard strategy off.

Had it in the bag but for that.

I just punted a Hologram + Vampire + Marble joker combo which should have easily won because I picked up Midas Mask in the last shop before the final boss and then stupidly chased a face-card full house instead of just playing two flushes and winning.

Yeah this is the best strat, usually the core of any build that's going to win a Gold stake is usually centered on 3-5 Jokers depending on your luck, everything else is gravy. I've had multiple negative Joker builds that relied on everything to move forward but I can count those on one hand.

The worst part of Completionist++ is the constant loving rental Jokers that you pretty much can't more than one of without your cash flow getting gutted, unless you got really lucky with econ Jokers.

I had an idea, either a new layer in addition to edition and seal, grade and enhancement type or adding on to one of those categories.

"Mint" which would remove all modifications, including negative joker attributes. It could also give it something like a 2x boost to whatever attributes it has that degrades by 0.1 every time it's triggered until it reaches 1x.

"Sleeved" which would seal a card in a plastic case and prevent anything from modifying it, for good or ill, and make it immune to boss blinds.

Had a fun one on Erratic Deck - Got to e+ scoring in Ante 6 last night with a Trading Card, Blueprint, Brainstorm, Canio, and Certificate for good measure. Got walkie talkie shortly after. Mis clicked on Ante 14 though on endless.

Game is good. Only one deck left to get gold and then I can put this game down for a while.

This is a cool idea

Another could be “rookie” which could be anything “potential”, including wasted potential or superstardom or forgotten after 1 round.

Yeah so I've been playing with Ghost deck for gold stickers now and it is good, once you've got past the stage of being able to regularly get 2+ unstickered jokers golded with the Anaglyph negative skip strat.

Starting with a Hex card is nice but it's nothing compared to Spectral cards being available in the shop.

It's so strong to be able to open a spectral pack while already holding one or two spectrals in hand as you can apply multiple complementary effects. For example if you combo Incantation and Oiuja you get -1 card, +4 enhanced numbered cards, then convert those [hand size+3] cards (4 of them being enhanced) into a single rank.

It's pretty dope also being able to find Ankh early in the shop, and so combined with your starting hex card, end up with a duplicated decent polychrome joker - can carry your whole run. I just had a run where I got 2x Polychrome "The Duo"s near the start - so x9 mult when hand contains a pair which is obviously super strong.

Grim plus Cryptid is great - add 4 enhanced aces to your deck/hand effectively.

Cryptid is just super strong generally but even moreso if you're getting more spectral upgrades than usual like red seals.

Yeah, it's nice.

Leading us to the promised land (i.e., one tournament win in five years)
Not playing the same game you all are, really, but first gold stake (ghost). Uh, super simple strategy:
Just picked up the blueprint right before the last blind, didn't really need it. Other than that, just polychrome ride the bus plus stencil plus the 3x three of a kind.

I think the prior stake was also ride the bus, two polychrome ones.

e: Also, I came across a bug. If you have five cards or less, open an arcane pack, and then immolate everything, you can't select any of the arcane cards, you are just stuck. But I closed it and when it reloaded it was before the immolate, so no big deal.

Sorry if this is known already, I don't follow this thread but I do play a lot of Balatro, the fact the borderless fullscreen didn't work (for me? others?) was really irritating, I found this somewhere online, if you change this setting in NVCP it completely fixes the issue. So I think I already know the answer but:

If you buy a perishable card and it runs out and you sell it, can you still find it again in the shop?

Also I guess same goes for cards which expire after a given number of rounds/hands like seltzer?

I feel like Gros Michel might be a special case here in that it never shows up again?
