I'm by no means the Israel whisperer but it seems like unplugging them from international special relationship status could limit their military options, forcing them to consider economic and diplomatic options instead of getting honorary NATO access to the munitions dump. Unfortunately, I think the time for that was probably 40-60 years ago and now domestic production can offset any sort of arms embargo. Also it's pretty unrealistic to expect any of Israel's sponsors to suddenly value human life over Raytheon stock. It sucks.

Though being related to a bunch of chuds from the South is still depressing, especially in an election year. But seeing Israel continuing to find new war crimes to commit with our tax dollars does provoke an emotional reaction from me. If the "cause" is Israel seeding a bunch of trapped communication devices, in these numbers, wouldn't that take a long time? Just the logistics of this doesn't make sense. Israel watched as they shifted to low tech and began coordinating using their pagers. I imagine that at some point in recent history Israel got a signal of some kind that Hezbollah wanted to try some kind of coordinated operations that would require coordinating through these pagers, so they disrupted that. Then you disrupt the back-up plan for coordination and leave Hezbollah with the choice of either attempting to utilize communication equipment that you know is compromised, or abandoning whatever particular plan you had that required coordination. Stuff like this does help clarify one of the reasons why the USA chose Israel to collaborate with so directly in the middle east, despite being a pariah within their neighborhood. They are effective and have access within the networks of many organizations that don't like the USA.

I have been trying to figure out this as well. The only scenario that I can come up with is they intercepted a shipment or shipments of the devices and modified them. I think there’s basically only one pager company today (Apollo) it makes sense that they do the deed as far upstream in the distribution chain as possible. I wouldn’t put money on that being right, though. I’m basically talking out of my rear end.

Other than what's been mentioned, Iran still owes Israel a counterattack over the last batch of Israeli assassinations in Iran. Iran just held off after the ceasefire negotiations intensified. Since Israel / Netanyahu have no interest in said ceasefire, they probably jumped at the chance to knock out one of Iran's potential counterattack vectors (Hezbollah) and they really don't give a gently caress about any civilian casualties.

I haven't seen confirmation but there are suggestions that domestic PV systems have gone up as well. Which would make sense if you wanted to try and damage a population's energy resilience, but again is an insane thing to do on a random Wednesday. That could very easily fog of war misinformation resulting from the domestic and business properties that have been on fire from the bombings though.
