lmao I actually live fairly close to Aurora ave, I drove west to Golden Gardens and it was an absolute mad house, never seen so many people there.

All I could see was a reddish tint, definitely none of the greens in the photos

It varied. I live right off lake city and mark one could see the color and the movement when it was peaking.

Agreed except it was a beautiful day all day today in DC and now the clouds and rain are moving in. It may clear up overnight but unclear as to when.

I have some friends traveling in Europe right now and the photos they’ve been posting have been unreal. Blows away the pics I’ve seen from Iceland as well.

I'm so pissed off about it because I was in Edinburgh a week ago and would have been easily able to see it. But back in DC with the clouds and rain, nope!

To say nothing of the fact that he was directly responsible for helping Coppola, Ron Howard, Scorcese, and James Cameron get started in their directing careers.

Given that Student Protests are such a fixture in history, have Uni Administrators always been so reactionary or is this a ~War on Terror era development?

I know I am an idiot for still using the dead bird app but I have been seeing a lot of right-wing sponsored content recently. Like three months ago, my ads were 90% Cheech and Chong gummies and crypto. Those are still there but I'd say it's now about 70% right-wing poo poo like Praeger U and Rand Paul. Plus a lot more of the "hey did you know Hitler liked dogs and kids? makes u think" guys. I block and there's a new one on the next refresh.

I don't think anything has really changed on my end. Just feels different.

Definitely feels amped up from the 2003 Iraq protest days, but after student protesters were literally gunned down at Kent State a shocking percentage of Americans polled (majority?) basically said they got what was coming to them. We've always been a nation of ghouls.

Hunter S. really made an evergreen post with this one

quote:

This maybe the year when we finally come face to face with ourselves; finally just lay back and say it—that we are really just a nation of 220 million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns, and no qualms at all about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable.

Every revolution evaporates and leaves behind only the slime of a new bureaucracy

Higher ed is fully captured by MBA types. The admin: professor ratio has something like quadrupled in our lifetimes. My coworker professor at another school was told by a new provost recently that the students were "clients" and the parents "customers". This is not at all an unusual event.

Many schools are basically real estate funds / hedge funds and a way to route (launder?) family wealth into tax shelters and other things. Students making that look bad will get the police club same as those thugs damaging insured property in protest when police get away with murder again.
