Losing power and ramming a huge bridge probably loving sucked.

After the nautical collision I was involved in, being stuck, confined to a base (at least not the boat, thank loving god) and being treated like an absolute piece of poo poo was by far the worst part of the whole ordeal. I feel bad for those dudes.

It seems that nobody on a foreign vessel can come ashore for obscure legal reasons.

Which sucks.

it's less obscure and more because they need visas for entry. some countries do visa on arrival, some do VOA only at major points of debarkation e.g. international airports, and some make you send your passport to their embassy in your home country. add in the fact that each country has different visa rules for each traveler's county (visa reciprocity and/or diplomatic relations at all) and that you need customs to process those folks at each port and you can see why most countries just say gently caress it, no entry for commercial mariners.

Apparently this crew had 30 day visas which have since expired and nobody in fedgov seems interested in giving them a new one, so I expect to see the entire crew imprisoned for overstaying their visas at some point here.

Perhaps a bit of a weird question but does anybody know if anything big happening around Kurdistan at the moment? I was at an amusement park in the Netherlands and there were multiple teens walking around with Kurdistan flags. A cursory google search didn't turn up any major holidays and upon checking Rudaw and Kurdistan24 I saw them literally reporting about grass growing in Erbil:

But perhaps this is all a coincidence and the Kurdish diaspora in the Netherlands just collectively decided today was the day to ride some roller coasters.

Friday was the 36th anniversary of the Anfal campaign, with some memorials happening.

Not really? I'm in Kurdistan. A somewhat senior member of ISIS got arrested here on Friday, but it's been a quiet few days here. My local staff guess maybe you saw a party or family reunion type event, or a belated holiday celebration based on when people could get together.

I suspect that they would be more subdued if this was what was going on? But teenagers are gonna be teenagers, who knows.

There’s no doubt the helicopter went down, but “accident” should probably carry some skepticism when an Iranian official bites it.

Would usually agree, but "flying a helicopter in mountainous terrain with no visibility" sounds like an obvious own goal, unless you assume the Mossad has an asset planning the president's travels.
