Offers of relocation to anyone that wants to get out if that shithole state on the Fed's dime, then pull the military out and build a real wall. They want a wall so bad they can pay or it in Freedom Dollars or whatever the gently caress Texas makes for its currency when they're excised from the nation.

yeah the only part about jettisoning texas from the nation that i worry about is that there are a lot of people i care about who are still unfortunately stuck there

Texas has broken away on two occasions because they wouldn’t give up slavery. A third time would be in character.

But my point is that crowbarring a Texas run by the most Texaniest Texans into Mexico (because everybody else left) would rapidly gently caress Mexico up hardcore, because Texas would start a Mexican civil war over being forced to learn Spanish or something equally stupid. Integrating texas into mexico would gently caress up Mexico something fierce, even in a best case scenario. The population of Texas is fully 1/4th that of Mexico's.

Trump preempted criticism here by saluting a North Korean general as the sitting president of the United States. Nothing can ever top that.

I sometimes think of that moment and I'm like 99% certain that the NK general in that photo will spend the rest of his time on this earth thinking about how that was the single most bizarre event of his life.

More to the point - nobody who understands or cares why it was an inappropriate thing for a head of state to do is going to have looked past the rest of his behaviour before, during, and after his presidency and still think it's a solid idea to vote for him.

One of those odd things that irks me despite having a DD214 for more than 20 years is a crappy salute like you see in a bad war movie or something. Don't know why, it just makes me cringe a bit on the inside. That being said, Cadet Bonespurs renders an absolute poo poo salute. Looks like even more of a fool.

Let's not forget that it was Reagan who started the trend of presidents saluting out of uniform, and every single one of them since has felt obliged to repeat that mistake. Just like it's no longer acceptable to appear in public without a US flag pin on their suit lapel.

The President is saluted and does not have to render a responding salute because they are the Civilian head of the military, you want a salute from a general gently caress around outside the Pentagon or go to the Joint Chiefs. The President is a civilian and does not salute others.

Speaking of salutes, it reminds me of when I was a second lieutenant on the squadron staff and I had to go to the brigade HQ for a meeting. On the way there literally every command sergeant major in the brigade was standing along the sidewalk and of course they all snapped to attention to salute me. Like 30 minutes later when I was on the way back from my meeting they were STILL standing there along the sidewalk. And the same thing happened. Definitely up there as one of my most awkward experiences in the Army. I didn't even have 2 years in the Army to their cumulative centuries of experience.

loving navy rank icons are impossible to figure out on the fly. We had two E-4 navy augmentees with our shop in Afghanistan that eventually gave up and just started saluting people back if we were walking past instead of trying to explain to every one "yes it's a bird no don't salute me".
