Yeah, the administration got blocked on their mass forgiveness plan, so ever since, they've been continuously poking around for any way to forgive folks in batches by changing repayment rules like that. These happened (but were not ruled on) before the first set of fines, so the judge is pretty clearly including them in the first group punishment wise. If there's another violation and he doesn't go for jail time, that's where I'd be more frustrated.

The judge wasn't going to give him a jail sentence for anything unless it occurred after the first contempt ruling. All of the statements at issue today were made post-first contempt motion but before the first contempt hearing. They couldn't include them in the first hearing because there hadn't been a proper motion and service yet. That happened the same day, but still required another hearing. The judge was crystal clear that he doesn't want to throw Trump in jail, but his hands are tied because the fines are obviously not effective.

It's exactly the kind of half baked bullshit punishment I've come to expect from the courts so they can cover their own rear end by saying "Look!
