I will not shut up about the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. I talk about them all the time and work them into every conversation I have. I built a shrine in my room for the yellow one who died because sadly no one noticed because she died around 9/11. Wanna see it?

I am not a boat-ologist since I decided the oceans were the realm of Poseidon and trespassing was a bad idea so I stuck with the Army.

So with my complete lack of credentials up front, my understanding is that the entire thing sticking up is flooded as the "tube" shape of the rest of the sub down below is also part of the pressure resistance at lower depths and the thin wedge type shape of the sticky-uppy part would go splat very easily.

Joining the army didn’t make you safe. The army has/had a poo poo ton of ocean going vessels manned by army with army warrant (prior navy enlisted usually ) running them.

This is essentially correct, almost all of the sticky out bit is designed to flood when submerged.

Why is it called a "coning tower?"

(In Australian bogan vernacular, that would imply it being a place where you might go to smoke a few bongs, which would make sense at surface depth as you could just crack the top and vent the place out)

I'm glad Moore is doing this and it's a solid move but the cynical part of me sees this as "MD senate is in play, need those votes to widen the gap!"

Honestly, it'd be nice if Moore continued with this kind of thing and, actually enabled worker protections for those who have medical cards like NYS and CA did. As well as telling state agencies that are non law enforcement, that it's a non issue for hiring/screening purposes.

If "doing good things and helping people so people vote for us" is cynical then I would like the Dems to become a lot more cynical, immediately.

No arguments here, I'm just annoyed it seemingly took Hogan throwing his hat into a senate race for this to happen.

Though to his credit, Moore has been a pretty solid governor since he took office. I was prepared to deal with O'Malley/Brown levels of coasting but he's done anything but.

Nick Fuentes and his merry band of nazis came to Detroit, trying to do their own America First Political Action Conference (klan meeting) on the heels of Donnie coming to town. For some reason or another, the convention center called the cops to have the conference cancelled on short notice.

So, now a whole bunch of white nationalists are in town with nothing to do. So, they go to a bar and get promptly told to leave. One of these idiots, apparently going by the name Sneako, decides to harass the black bouncer and knock his hat off.

A minor problem is that hard-lefties view incrementalism as selling out for half loafs, rather than a series of policy change wins that can build on each other. Pick your lens on student debt relief, abortion pill access leniency, etc where the administration got shut down, then got cynical and did unilateral policy shifts the most they could only for the winning side to go "meh".

Like on immigration - there was the well-covered crackdown, but an open question as to how much this expansion of deportation protection will be covered in the same circles:

https://x.com/seungminkim/status/1802784857866547548?t=A0_x3zrBdYlWsR69QPMFjw&s=19

And per PBS at https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/biden-to-announce-protections-tuesday-for-undocumented-spouses-of-u-s-citizens-and-dreamers

quote:

The executive action would mark the biggest relief program for undocumented immigrants who have long lived in the U.S. since former President Barack Obama enacted the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program in 2012.

The action is expected to also provide protections to a population of undocumented children who are under the age of 21 and whose undocumented parent married a U.S. citizen, according to two of the sources briefed by the White House.

Who is excited for a new Surgeon General’s Warning?

NYT posted:

It doesn’t have to be this way. Faced with high levels of car-accident-related deaths in the mid- to late 20th century, lawmakers successfully demanded seatbelts, airbags, crash testing and a host of other measures that ultimately made cars safer. This January the F.A.A. grounded about 170 planes when a door plug came off one Boeing 737 Max 9 while the plane was in the air. And the following month, a massive recall of dairy products was conducted because of a listeria contamination that claimed two lives.

Why is it that we have failed to respond to the harms of social media when they are no less urgent or widespread than those posed by unsafe cars, planes or food? These harms are not a failure of willpower and parenting; they are the consequence of unleashing powerful technology without adequate safety measures, transparency or accountability.

The moral test of any society is how well it protects its children. Students like Tina and mothers like Lori do not want to be told that change takes time, that the issue is too complicated or that the status quo is too hard to alter. We have the expertise, resources and tools to make social media safe for our kids. Now is the time to summon the will to act. Our children’s well-being is at stake.

One of the accounts watched Fox News, and the other watched MSNBC. A mommy vlogger account that the left-leaning user had already subscribed to was the most recommended channel.

“These results suggest that right-leaning news content is more frequently recommended than left-leaning,” the study said. Both accounts were also recommended videos by an anti-vaccine influencer.
