Watching poo poo that's funny as hell happen is going to be the best we can really do over the next four years. I try to avoid doomer poo poo but god drat I just looked up how much of a pain getting the right wing states in the late 40s to ratify the 22nd amendment, and I guarantee half the country is going to be trying to figure out the fastest way to unwind that a week from now (and the other half is just going to let them do it). If this sinks Alberta's economy in the process though it'll be kind of leopards-eating-faces wacky up here. Literally a province full of idiots who think that their economic contribution to Canada is the most important because most of it's in the petroleum industry... that's now going to be tariffed to hell and back, cratering its value. Yeah, motherfuckers, try your separatist bullshit once three quarters of your GDP vanishes and you can't even afford to keep the literal lights on.

Between this and the lead ship of the Columbia class having to be called the USS District of Columbia because there's already a USS Columbia I feel like we've completely lost the plot when it comes to naming ships.

The previous two are named after an abstract concept and a non-president war hero. There's no requirement, tradition, or expectation of any kind to just start going down the sequence of presidents at this point. Also Trump is going to get two, one for the 45th president and one for the 47th.

For anyone curious in the carrier hull number series 41 was USS Midway and 43 is USS Coral Sea. So I propose renaming the Nimitz class George HW Bush the USS Midway and naming the CVN-83 USS Coral Sea. Then for fairness CVN-82 can be renamed for CVB-42 which is… Franklin D Roosevelt. …we’ve been loving this up for a long time, huh.

Discussion Quorum posted:Also I just realized that Bill Clinton is younger than Donald Trump So is Dubya. All three were born within ten weeks of each other. Because of this, and Biden being almost four years older, actuarial tables give pretty high odds that Obama will one day be the only living former president. If whoever wins in 2028 is a two‐termer, they’d each have to live past ninety to see that mystery candidate become a former president themselves.

Kansas City air traffic control center has gone atc zero. They lost everything. Radar, radio, land lines, cpdlc, literally everything. You can go to adsbexchange.com and look at the giant space with almost no airplanes in it to see how impactful this could be if it’s not temporary. I don’t know how this happens without the lines coming into the building all getting cut. The last time something like this happened was with Chicago center when a tech ops guy cut the lines in the basement, lit a fire, and tried to mill himself. This poo poo doesn’t just happen.

Kazinsal posted:The Diablo 1 speedrun record that stood for over a decade was recently found to be illegitimate. Each floor was run separately and spliced together with hacked save files, the runner changed the time on their computer to generate more optimal level placement, and in some points they stitched together different bits of footage seamlessly (at least, in video -- you can see evidence of the splice in the audio stream). Anytime something like this surfaces, I get giddy because the inevitable investigation/exposé-videos on it always blow my mind. I love the completely overblown level of detail that the speedrunning-community puts into analysis. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N_1su-dOUNw

'cheating' speed run, a thing that only works via cheats and exploits
The best type of exploit speedrun is the "arbitrary code execution" class, where you do things in such a precise order at such a precise speed that the game engine shits itself and starts overwriting chunks of memory based on how you've put certain inputs and actions in, then executes them as code. Some are pretty simple, like skipping to the end credits of a Game Boy game. Some are a bit more complex, like the time someone coded Snake and Pong into Super Mario World. Then there's the Triforce% ACE Showcase, in which dozens of people spent years reimplementing beta code, pre-release rumours, and "my uncle works at Nintendo" style late 90s/early 00s bullshit into Zelda 64 through a series of exploits and extremely high-precision replayed button presses, and then played it live on an unmodified Nintendo 64 and cartridge in front of audience of thousands. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2x_pqyrf9lA
