OPM/DHS et al still doesn't even know yet. They're still trying to figure out the dumb passport poo poo, which appears to be blocking renewals, versus blocking current use, of documents they don't like. And most poo poo runs through the states for IDs and such anyways. So right now there isn't even anyone to maliciously comply to, unless you're handling taxes early or whatever.

And if in 4 years it's even possible for Democrats to take back control of the government, I doubt they'll do the same kind of purges to undo all the damage. It would be against decorum to do such a thing.

I cannot believe the hell Joe Biden and the Democrats have inflicted upon us and the world. How the gently caress do you lose to someone as dumb as Donald Trump, TWICE???

Especially trump, but really every republican president for half a century. It's like a group of friends getting into a car and 3 out of 5 insist on giving the keys to the one that drives like an idiot, until they inevitably drive into a ditch. So they begrudgingly give the keys to the reasonable driver who gets the car going in the previous direction again (changing direction is not brought up, of course), except this new person never wants to stop for fireworks or liquor. The centrist that changed their mind - who apparently has the memory of a goldfish - again changes their mind and insist that the idiot gets the keys back (the other two never wavered, even in the ditch) and is briefly having a good time until ... yup, it's a ditch again. Tea party/MAGA is the idiot driver now being visibly drunk, and still getting the keys twice.

It's the broad strokes of Nixon -> Carter -> Reagan/Bush -> Clinton -> Bush -> Obama -> Trump -> Biden -> Trump.

I'm not really an advocate for snitching, but depending on your agency (don't say where), it sure sounds like a good idea if it could be a them-or-you type of situation. Snitch away!

Supposedly, the DOGE fuckos are going to have tendrils into every agency, like four person teams of a team leader, a rando, a HR person doing the firings, and a lawyer. Once that team gets established at wherever you are (and I'm sure they'll be noisy about it), that's the place/time to drop the dime.

I'm not hopeful though, even for the people that have a specialty of ensuring the office chairs don't float into the ceiling. I'd bet money that they're going to check the databases for political donations and if they pop for anything Republican, they'll be safe. It's not really about headcount, that's mostly the smokescreen to chudify as much as they can.

A few posts down

Leon Trotsky 2012 posted:

Those aren't actually his proposals.

Those are from a paper he wrote outlining 3 scenarios: One where the defense budget stays the same, one where it increases by ~10%, and one where it decreases by ~10%.

He laid out strategies for how to optimize the military to confront China in each of the three scenarios. Those cuts are from the hypothetical "How do we defeat China if Biden/Democrats cut the defense budget by 10%?" scenario.

Those cuts are part of the "bad scenario" where we are forced to cut 10% and still have to confront China. His conclusion is that even with those dramatic cuts to redirect resources to more effective ways of confronting China, that it would be impossible with that size of a cut.

The final recommendations of the report are to significantly increase military spending in manufacturing and bases in the Indo-Pacific ocean, preserve existing military capabilities, and stockpile ammunition so we don't have to manufacture more in an extended conflict scenario:

And he says it is impossible to confront China on our current military budget, so we need significant new investments in defense from Congress. Even the scenario where the defense budget increases by 10% is too small. He says they need at least $143.5 billion (an approximately 18.5% increase):

The only thought this is worth is mild amusement that right wing think tanks actually do believe that the Democrats would ever do anything to slow the MIC money pipeline.

Huh was wondering how that would work, as from the start countries like Haiti or Venezuela have large numbers of migrants but wouldn’t be impacted by tariffs & unlikely to accept deportation flights. Wonder if they’ll end up doing a weird deal with a friendly right wing country like Argentina taking all deportees, like the Tories were trying to do with Rwanda.
