electric stoves are basically better in every way except: if you have animals/people that arent too bright they stay hot longer woks glass tops are especially nice in smaller apts if you need counter space. or even in a big kitchen depending on the stove placement. skill issue

Y'all should get in on this induction poo poo. Pretty great. I got a single hob to use in the kitchen that cost me eighty Queen heads. My gas stoves only get used if I need more than one thing to boil at a time.

Induction owns, ranges do seem ludicrously overpriced though. How much can magnets cost, the profit margin must be amazing.

Raskolnikov38 posted:wmata already has a nearly billion dollar hole in their budget here in DC the silver line expansion has been a giant money sink and mismanagement disaster after disaster has just never let them dig out of it first the concrete for all the new stations had to be redone because the first effort was a grift they cut hours, had to do miles of maintenance on dangerous tracks over multiple summers then the new trains started getting warped axles, like all of them, and they couldn't figure out why for months (they say lovely track conditions but also likely... grift on the manufacturer, it always is) it's a drat shame because it's a good system when it works and even with like $20 surge pricing on 66 people still would rather sit in traffic than vote to fund metro maintenance

I think TfL haven't had their ridership in London on buses or the tube get anywhere near 2019 numbers, and UK public transit was already basically privatised token services for areas already filled with cars. Can someone explain what happened in the intervening time that may account for this? Thanks in advance.

Do septa and wmata still charge you a fare if you want to ride the bus? I thought I read DC was thinking about just making it free, get on the bus if you feel like it. That's the only way it makes sense, just subsidize it as a public good but no we have to means test it and make it cost like $3 to go a couple miles unless you have hardship or w/e. I get that this is the point and the purpose is to defund public transportation. People would have a way better opinion of it if they grew up knowing that busses were free. I know many adults that have never once taken a city bus. Ever. I'll be like, "here borrow my card and get on the 123 blue line and you'll be there in 10 min" but they're too scared, they'll Uber instead or something.

It required MD/DC/VA+feds to all negotiate on how much they're willing to pay out of what wmata asks for and essentially bid on where maintenance is done. It's horrendously underfunded and because the funding is so unsteady they constantly try to cut corners (which just costs more long term).

heat output of electric isn’t the issue, it’s how long it takes a burner to change temperature. complicates any dish that requires an immediate temperature change while cooking, have to have multiple burners pre-heated at different temps and can’t make small adjustments in time to matter induction solves the problems of both electric and gas but they don’t really install those in apartments that aren’t mega luxury so
|

Agreed, there's pros and cons. My induction hob is great, only 60 bux when not on sale, but with cast iron any setting over 4 is way too hot unless I want to boil water, and thin pots will be able to use the whole temperature range at the cost of power consumption. The hob also doesn't have great cooling, so it can overheat itself and go into low power mode easily. I've never used electric, but not surprised that there's drawbacks. Still, combusting methane+whatever else indoors is still combusting stuff indoors.

The only cooking I do involves boiling things so it doesn't really matter. Induction does that pretty quickly at least. I watch the old Gordon Ramsay makes perfect scrambled eggs video and I feel like he is doing parody. He puts eggs in the heat and takes them off in like 30 second intervals while absentmindedly burning toast. Then add creme fraishe!
