Hello! This will be the recruitment and OOC thread for the Zeitgeist campaign I will be starting soon.
Important poo poo
    - This will be run using Fantasy Grounds and will be using Discord for voice chat. You need to download Fantasy Grounds demo version (no license required to play) and the Discord voice program. Push to talk must be enabled.
    - This will be streamed on Twitch and uploaded to Youtube as VOD. No cameras or anything, just voices.
    - I am a kiwi, and have potty mouth. There will be plenty of fucks, shits, and assholes. (c-bombs not ok). If you don't like swearing, or are a young'un, please don't play.

    - This will be PbP, using orokos.
    - This will be following the Zeitgeist adventure path, with a few minor adjustments (mainly to naval combat parts).
    - poo poo like graphic torture, sexual roleplaying or other weird kink RP is not what this game is about. Don't do it. Violent interrogation will be curtain drop, no one's playing for torture-porn.
    - Inter-party conflict is great, drama between players can be cool and interesting, but make sure your character isn't just for someone to kill their friends, and you need to be responsible for making your character want to work with this group towards its goals.

There is currently 5 slots, go to this link to get the player's guide and create your character/s.

Before I make a character, can I ask what the party is and what sort of houserules (feat taxes, inherent bonuses, etc.) we're looking at?

Ash Rose

Where is Megaman?

In queer, with us!
So, the starting level is 1 I assume, are you using anything like inherent bonuses or whatever its called? and since you have 2 slots open, what is the party make-up so far? Just so folks can avoid stepping on each other's toes.

edit: whoops,already asked, sorry.

Spiteski
Aug 27, 2013

These are valid questions. The people we have already haven't done character creation yet, so no party composition yet. Feel free to make what you like and we'll work around that when we do our bit.

As to inherent bonuses or home rules. No inherent bonuses, and you choose a Character Theme from the Zeitgeist player's book, and follow limitations set forth in that.
House rules: Thanks to giant in the playgrounds
Feat Tax: Each player gains one free expertise and one free defense bolstering feat of that player's choice. The defense feat chosen must permanently and unconditionally increase at least one defense. An expertise feat gained in this way may only be retrained into another expertise feat. A defense bolstering feat gained in this way may only be retrained into another defense bolstering feat as defined here.
Anti-Forced Movement/'Ping-Pong' Cheese: A creature can only take damage from entering or exiting a zone, square, space, aura or area once per turn.
Anti-Intimidomancy Cheese: Elites gain a +5 bonus to resist Intimidate checks and Solos gain a +20 bonus to resist Intimidate checks to force surrender if their level is equal to or greater than an Intimidating creature's. A creature gains a +2 bonus to resist Intimidate checks to force surrender for each level they're above an Intimidating creature, and for each ally it is aware of (including the creature) that exceeds the total number of enemies it is aware of.
Anti-Chargecheese: Characters may only benefit from one beneficial item effect/property, feat, power and/or class feature per tier (Heroic/Paragon/Epic) per charge that enhances a charge attack specifically
Encumberance Basic bolt and arrow ammo isn't tracked. Currency weight isn't tracked, nor are currency denominations except where necessary. Players are always assumed to have adequate basic ammo (bolts and arrows), food and water unless in situations where these essentials are scarce at which point it's up to the DM to decide what rations the PCs have unless they've undertaken especial efforts to stock sustenance.

Think that's it for the moment. If I have missed any, or you want to request/clarify any :justpost:

Making/writting the backstory for a Dwarf Fighter with the Yerasol Veteran theme. On that note, the effects of their encounter power, act of heroism, are:
pre:
Shift 3 squares. One bloodied or unconscious ally adjacent to you can spend a
healing surge and may stand as a free action. You may then switch spaces with that
ally. You and that ally gain a +2 bonus to all defenses until the end of your next turn
and it really seems like it should be "Shift up to 3 squares" unless rescuing an ally that is adjacent or a square or 2 away just isn't heroic enough.

You can use CBloader to try and add the new themes if you want, or use the CB to make your character with the exception of your themes. I have the entire compendium on Fantasy Grounds so you can drag/drop feats powers etc, so you can do that when you first connect. (I can open the server now if you want to make it on there)

In the interest of helping out those who want to use CBLoader for character creation, I'll make and export a CBLoader campaign with the new options/themes/powers for you to select. Should be done by next week, and will go into the OP.

I copypasted the theme and added it. Regarding guns, I picked hand crossbow-equivalents for my two pistols and shortswords as their bayonets. I'm not having luck converting to Fantasy Grounds (Probably cause my version doesn't have PHB 2 modules?) so I uploaded it to Orokos.

When a distance is specified, it is a maximum; the creature or effect producing the forced movement can move its target up to that number of squares (or none at all). For instance, a character's power might say, "You slide the target 4 squares (or "up to 4 squares"); both mean the character can move the target up to 4 squares or not move it at all.

When a destination is specified, it is absolute; the creature or effect must either move the target to that destination or not move it at all. Often a destination is combined with a distance, which means the target can be moved to the destination only if it is no farther away than the specified distance. For instance, a character's power might say, "You slide the target up to 5 squares to a square adjacent to you (or "5 squares to a square adjacent to you)," both of which mean the character can move the target up to 5 squares but only if the move ends in a square adjacent to that character.
This specifically refers to forced movement, but I've always played with it applying to shifting as well.

Mordai Antoi, Battlemind technologist

Ever since the creation of the dead magic zone, the martial scientists of Danor have been looking at alternative methods of mystical combat. Mordai is one of the results of the program. A researcher and inventor of technology, he signed up for the mental mastery program, as a lark, and took to it fantastically. Currently he resides in Risur and has joined up with the Constabulary, as he is a big supporter of peace between Risur and Danor, and he hopes that he can help bring about a more permanent solution than the temporary cease-fire than what currently exists.

Reskinning is fine, as long as it fits the setting.

Power of Skill, are you asking if you can take that as a free feat, or just if you can use it in general? If former, I'd say no. If latter, you're welcome to utilise it.

So, just to be sure, by your rules, Unarmored Agility, in the case of my Monk, would absolutely work as my free defensive feat, right? Secondly, the refluffing in this case that I'm going to be looking at is wielding a dagger implement as a claw gauntlet, and their thesis being Is it truly just a flesh wound? A Meta-Analysis of Lacerations and Gashes and Their Effects on Performance. If both of these sound good, I'll get to rolling up a character.

Technically, that raises a defence with a condition (wearing either cloth or no armor).

I feel fine with it. Could fit will with the eschatologist theme, pact could have been made as an attempt by the entity to impact force upon this plane.

Based on the setting fluff, it seems like Vestige Pact could also work with the slumbering Fey Titans (for that matter, so could Elemental Pact).

Also given the setting fluff, I presume a female Eladrin would be a bad choice for a PC, but what about a male? Are all Eladrin viewed as (potential) terrorists, or would they be welcome in "polite" society (and specifically, among the law-enforcement agencies, assuming the we're going with the adventuring hook baked into the setting)?
What about Vekeshi Mystics in particular? Since they really are terrorists (at least on the side), I presume they'd have a hard time passing the RHC's mentally invasive pre-employment checks.

(In case it wasn't obvious, this is an interest post.)

Eladrin is a tough one, but not too bad, most themes and races can be explained as special recruits, or consultant's for the RHC.

in addition, it's not entirely required that you are an investigator for the beginning of the adventure, if you're wanting to come at it from another angle.

Konstantin, the Deathbreaker
Dwarf Vestige-Pact Warlock and Spirit Medium

Character sheet

****
Where, O Death, is your victory?
Where, O Death, is your sting?
What is dead is never lost
But abides with those who hear his Voice
And Remember what has come before.

— the Lay of Durek the Deathbreaker

It is said that the Titans of the Underworld were of enormous of size and possessed of dread necromantic power. The ancient princes of the dwarves witnessed the oppression of their people under the fell strength of the Titans, and they set about the long and arduous task of freeing them. Through unknown means, they defeated the Titans and imprisoned them beyond the Bleak Gate, from which (it was said) none could return. Fearing their undying might, however, the dwarven people desperately sought out guardians for the eternal prison. The strongest of the dwarven princes, Durek, along with his entire clan, volunteered for this task, though it meant that they themselves would be forever lost to their people. And so, long long ago, the mortal name of Durek’s Clan was erased from the memory of the dwarven race.

However, over the millennia they served as guardians, Durek and his ilk learned to tap into the power of the imprisoned titans, and after a time their spirits were able to exert their influence from beyond the Bleak Gate. Among the dwarven people, those with the capacity to hear the whisperings of these incorporeal spirits were known as “Speakers for the Dead”. From long before the time of Durek, dwarven ancestors were universally revered, so those who came to bridge the gap between the honored dead and their progeny began to be held in high esteem. And from that time on, Durek’s Clan were known as the Deathbreakers, for they were able to overcome Death's impenetrable barrier and return to their people — after a fashion.

Among the gifts they brought to their people was the means to acces the vestiges of power locked away when the titans were overcome. These arcane magics opened up new horizons for the dwarven people, though those who devoted themselves to Speaking for the Dead were few and far between. Many of the living dwarves coveted such power, however, and sought other means of obtaining it. Soon, infernal pacts with the princes of the Demonocracy replaced devotion to the Ancestors. But the dwarves have always held that those who sacrifice themselves for dwarfkind are deserving of great honor — and the greater the sacrifice, the greater the honor. And so those who gave their souls to demons in exchange for power to help dwarfkind were accorded honor very much like that of Break-Death Durek and his followers.

The dwarves' honorable intentions notwithstanding, pacts with demons are never that simple. The inevitable corruption was subtle, however, and it was centuries before it manifested overtly. And so the dwarves learned, too late, that the vast spread of the dwarven dominion held within it the seeds of its own destruction. The fall of the Dwarven Princes and the casting down of their mighty Towers was a dark time for the entire race, and even the Deathbreakers themselves fell silent — for a time.

With the rise of the philosophy of Eschatology, however, the dwarven people are primed to rediscover their past — and their future. Those who seek to end all things well have somehow re-awakened the Prince who ended his mortal existence on his own terms — and thereafter discovered that death is not truly the End, but merely the beginning of a further journey. Likewise, those who find themselves with the new-found ability to interact with unsettled spirits -- and if possible, to assist their posthumous attempts to obtain a better End -- are becoming vital to the outworking of the primary Eschatologist doctrine. And so, the time has come again when Break-Death Durek calls to his people from beyond the Bleak Gate, bidding those few who hear his words to take up the mantle of leadership that he first laid down in order to protect his people. Casting aside the name of their birth Clan, they take the name of the Deathbreaker as their own, to lift up once again the virtues of the most noble and honorable Ancestors of the dwarven people.

At least, these are the myths told amongst the dwarves who have knowledge of such things, but rarely are such matters spoken of to others in direct terms. Even among the dwarves who have heard such legends — indeed a number of prominent Eschatologist conclaves count a Deathbreaker among their ranks, if not their leadership — few believe them to be more than fanciful (if instructive) fables for dwarven younglings. But as for Konstantin himself, what else could explain the Voices that speak to him, and the arcane might, like unto that of a dread Titan, that he wields? If he is not the reincarnated spirit of a Deathbreaker, then what is he?
