Anonymous Robot posted:I've got a theory that the people who enjoyed Saint's Row 2 were those who liked getting into a GTA and completing the game, exploring the whole city etc, and those who enjoy 3 and 4 were more into flipping all the cheats on and messing around. Saints Row 3 and 4 are significantly less fun to gently caress around in, though.

I'm really not a fan of Saints Row: The Third but I think Saints Row 2 and Saints Row 4 kick equal amounts of rear end.Kanfy posted:Good news for Orv as Winged Cloud, the makers of highly acclaimed western VN titles such as Sakura Spirit and Sakura Angels have their next title on Greenlight already. There's actually a big market for exactly that in Japan. It's even got a specific genre title that I do not remember. Turtlicious posted:Is Kentucky Route Zero fully released? Is it worth buying into? Is it good? Kentucky Route Zero is awesome and I heartily recommend you buy it. It's an episodic game and 3 out of I think 5 have been released so far, but the fourth is coming relatively soon. It's definitely worth it. If you need further provocation see my avatar, although it will spoil probably the best moment of the game for you in case you're not okay with that. Anonymous Robot posted:What I mean is, Saint's Row 3 normal is like Vice City or San Andreas with cheats on. (My own problems with the game relate far more to how obviously unfinished it is, but that's the impression I get.) No it's not. Not at all. SR3 just had a much more fun general tone, and stories it told. The gameplay's the fuckin' same for the most part. SR4 got amazing because it was funny as hell and had superpowers. The gameplay-story loop was still the same though, and it suffered for it.

Spiderdrake posted:I never cheated in SR3, I just enjoyed wandering around and having fun in a game that basically didn't give a poo poo. My character in SR 3/4 wears samurai armor and kabuki makeup. And he's got the cockney accent. He fits seamlessly into the game world, and seems perfectly in place next to the other colorful characters. Few other sandbox games accomplish this so well. Oddly enough. Anonymous Robot posted:What I mean is, Saint's Row 3 normal is like Vice City or San Andreas with cheats on. (My own problems with the game relate far more to how obviously unfinished it is, but that's the impression I get.) Nah. SR3 is more like the funny/outrageous bits that have always been in the games. From GT1's rocket launcher rampages and El Burro through lots of aspects of Vice City, especially. SR4 is just a logical extension. Instead of being the funny parts of GTA, it's GTA with the filter completely removed so it's just a fantasy fulfillment shoot things game. Sort of like Trevor in GTA5, only Trevor seems a bit outclassed by Da Prez these days. If anything, I'd say people who tend to dislike Saints Row are people who tried to take GTA seriously instead of seeing it mostly as a fun sandbox game that happened to have a story mode. Yeah, the minigame repetition is a little lame and samey, and it'd be nice if they put in more effort. But for a fun shoot things game, it's still a decent waste of time- I'd probably only pick up the next game on sale, if it doesn't shake things up enough.

Saints Row 3 was kind of a let down for me. I enjoyed the heck out of Saints Row 2, and Saints Row 3 had a really awesome set of intro missions. Then, I dunno, it just felt bland. The story missions were just the side missions, and there were less cutscenes. I liked it enough to finish it.

Saints Row 3 got hastily rewritten midway through development and it shows. The original concept of the game sounded way more interesting than what we ended up with. Although the original concept would have killed Johnny Gat off for good instead of his death being really weird to the point it's easy enough to retcon in the next game.

I'll be honest; I didn't even realize that Johnny was dead until after his funeral because nobody seemed to even mention him until that point. SR3 was fun, but yeah there's large chunks of the story missing.

I like building things and keeping people happy. Banished is shaping up, but a lot of the mechanics are kind of like "I don't know if this is broken or I'm just not using it right". ScentOfAnOtaku posted:That is the best way I've ever heard someone explain Banished. It may be early access but something about it just seems off. I do think it'll be worked out down the line, but right now there is something about the mechanics that just doesn't seem to work correctly. Great game other than that though. Banished is not Early Access, so don't expect it to change much.

Ori and the Blind Forest is ridiculously good. I've played it for about six hours today, and it is easily the best random little steam game I've bought in a long time. Extremely pretty graphics, good music, and great controls. It plays a little like a metroidvania game, where you have a world map with random powerups spread around. It isn't terribly challenging, but the atmosphere is spot on. The thing is super polished for a random $20 steam game.

I was scared of this at first because it seems most of the pretty games focus so much on the graphics that they lose out on gameplay. The controls are super tight in this game and after playing for a bit, you're able to pull off some really satisfying moves. I love it.

If you like plopping down each building, Hearthlands aims for the Pharaoh/Caesar style of city builders, but with more modern mechanics. It's shaping up pretty great. http://steamcommunity.com/games/336300/announcements/detail/119682647824966723
