I have a pixel 6a and a PW1 and I have the always on display off. Every time I turn the watch screen on it defaults to the Spotify player. Is there any way to disable this? I haven't been able to find any setting.

I am looking to buy my father a smart watch. he has never owned one but has a new fancy samsung phone Everyone else in the family uses apple so there was one obvious choice. I have narrowed things down to the Samsung watch6 44mm or the Pixel watch 2 he is old, bikes, plays guitar, and does tai kwon do. I was hoping to get something for ECG (afib issues) and fall detection. Need all day battery life to make it worth while, my dad likes samsung everything, but the pixel looks more robust but we are not going to fork over money for fitbit premium. i see complaints on the samsung for having a shorter battery life but the reviews just feel like a paid advert. Overall between the two which would you pick?

Frankly if you're considering the Galaxy watches I'd consider waiting for the 7. The articles I see appear to be talking about a dramatic increase in battery life. I've got the 5, I can get up to 2 days out of it, but I usually just charge it every other evening while I'm surfing or whatever. I'm probably going to update to a 7 when they come out myself, but I'm waiting to see what the models are. I'd be tempted by a pro if the battery life is that much better, or by a square face if they do end up going that direction as rumored and it looks ok. I don't know too much about the pixels though, so I can't give you a fair comparison.

My 5 Pro's battery life is solid enough I have no desire to upgrade, but also the titanium housing and sapphire glass have kept it in really nice shape despite my best efforts to smash it on every doorframe I pass through.

I would wait 3 months for the 7 as well. GW 4-6 all essentially have the same SoC in them and it's due for a real upgrade. Both the W920 and W930 are dual core A55 based SoCs on a 5nm process. The W930 just has a slightly higher max clock speed likely due to process improvements The only real difference betwen the 4/5 and the 6 is the 6 got more ram (and larger display). The only real upgrade for the 5 over the 4 was the the sapphire glass. Pixel Watch 2 along with Ticwatch Pro 5 and OnePlus Watch 2 are all on the W5 platform which is a quad core platform (4nm 4xA53 cores) with an additional co-processor (M33 or M55 depending on if W5 or W5+). The performance difference is noticeable. Additionally, there's the whole dual architecture thing that debuted on the OnePlus Watch 2 and I would really hope that Samsung would implement that on their next watch because that will really enhance battery life across the board.

I'll second the glass (and the doorframes), it's honestly surprised me. I've just got the Galaxy 5, not the pro. It's my first smartwatch so I figured I would see how I liked them before I sprung for a pro. My next one will be a pro.

Does the pixel watch do the same stupid thing where you have to dismiss incoming notifications twice to get them to go away? On my Samsung Watch 5 pro a notification will come in, I'll swipe it away, but the little "you have a notification" dot is still there. I open the notifications, and it's right there. If i dismiss from there, it finally goes away. I will say I'm happy with the durability and battery life. The magnetic clasp on the silicone sport band is quite nice. Not as happy with the Samsung apps I don't want and cannot uninstall.

drat, this OP2 "Nordic Blue" colourway is gorgeous https://9to5google.com/2024/04/23/oneplus-watch-2-nordic-blue-launch/ Weirdly Europe/UK-only currently.

My OP2 has been awesome so far, by the way. I rarely see it drop below 90% after a full day's usage with HR and a good 30min-1hr workout. Exactly what I wanted in a new WearOS watch.

If you're like me and were annoyed there was no way to turn off notifications for daily step goals on your Galaxy Watch, I finally found a fix:quote:On your watch, go to Settings -> About Watch -> Software Information

So my Pixel Watch 1 drowned today while swimming right in the middle of my vacation. Annoying but I can make do without it though it'll take some getting used to, particularly looking up notifications. I've had it at launch and it is out of warranty so I doubt Google will do much for me. Also found out that apparently the Pixel Watch 1 isn't IP-rated at all which I wish I knew and took for granted or else I would have been more careful with not submerge it excessively. At least the Watch 2 is IP-68 rated so I probably would be better off upgrading even though I'm not the biggest fan of it charging through POGO pins. I still have a Fitbit Charge 5 back at home that I can use for my fitness tracking in the interim while I decide what to replace it with. The reason I upgraded to the Pixel Watch was because the battery life tanks when I go jogging with it outside in the winter. With the Fitbit, I could wait for a potential Pixel Watch 3 though I don't know if I can be patient enough to wait or if waiting is worth it.

Samsung is doing a straight up bogo on the Galaxy Watch 6 (not classic). No strings, just go to samsung.com and add two to your cart and one is free. It also looks like they will take ANY Fossil smartwatch and give you $100. However, you can't combine the two deals. So, it's $100 off with trade for a single watch or get two for the price of one. bull3964 fucked around with this message at 20:57 on May 8, 2024 |

Google Fit APIs get shut down in 2025, might break fitness devicesquote:Fast-forward to 2024, and we get the familiar story of Google being unable to throw its weight behind a single solution. Today, Google has three competing fitness APIs. There is a "Comparison Guide" on the Android Developer site detailing the differences between the "Health Connect" API, the "Fitbit Web API" and the "Google Fit REST API." "Familiar story" is the understatement of the last 25 years when it comes to them clowning around doing "product management."

I got a Galaxy Watch5! It's so cool. I held off because well normal analogue watches are also cool. But now I would find it difficult to adjust to not having these conveniences if my watch broke or something else happened to it. Bright Bart fucked around with this message at 21:50 on May 31, 2024 |

Watch 3 XL leaks. https://www.androidheadlines.com/pixel-watch-3-xl Without banana for size, it doesn't look all that different from the normal Watch 3. It is clear though that they are going with a larger (likey 22mm) band size so there won't be cross compatibility with the smaller watch. I'm disappointed about that. It is likely the way to go asthetically, but I'm going to have a lot of unused PW1/2 bands after this release.

Dumb story: Was pretty sure I charged my 5 Pro to near full. Used it for Strava to ride to date night after work. First sign something was odd, my phone prompted me to confirm my sleep times in the morning, weird my watch didn't track it. Then later in the morning I noticed the connection to my phone had died ... battery was completely wiped. I was doubting that I had charged it the day before. Threw it in the $5 Amazon charger on my office desk ... then later got notification that my Strava ride was completed. I had forgotten to turn off Strava and the watch had been tracking for ~20 hours and 50 KM of distance lol, mostly not on a bike.

Yup yup yup, I'm looking forward to this almost more than the Fold 2. That said, I'm probably going to have to find a good UV cured screen protector for it because it scuffs like nothing else. My PW1 picked up scuffs and my PW2 has scuffs too and I basically only wear the PW2 to bed and around the house a bit. If I'm actually going to be out and about with this watch, it's going to need protection. For reference, the TicWatch Pro 5 has a 1.43" screen and the Galaxy Watch 6 has a 1.5" screen (this is 1.45). I would expect it to sit on the wrist a tiny bit larger than the Watch 6 44mm based on dimensions. Also, the Galaxy Watch Ultra was leaked a bit ago. https://www.theverge.com/2024/5/24/24163867/samsung-galaxy-watch7-ultra-leak-square For all the square loving people...it's square....in the body. The screen is still circular. I am kinda digging the look though. It looks like it has a digital crown (not rotating bezel) on top of two pushers. The sensor array on the back there is SIGNIFICANTLY different than the GW6 series. It remains to be seen if all of the GW7 series will get this array or if this is going to be an Ultra only thing with extra sensors. I've seen it mentioned other places that Samsung may be trying to position this as a dive worthy watch like the Apple Watch Ultra, so we'll see how it stacks up. What I don't like is what appears to be proprietary band attachments. It looks like the quick release mechanism is being moved to the back of the watch rather than the band (the two ovals under the band anchor points. Hopefully someone will figure out some good looking standard band adapters. What is unknown at this time is if Samsung is going to adopt the dual arch that the OnePlus 2 watch has and the Pixel Watch 3 is expected to have. Now I have to plan what I want to trade in on what. I have an embarrassing number of Galaxy Watches at this point, mostly from sweetheart trade in deals on defunct Fossils I picked up along the way for sub $100 and I kept trading things forward. I have standard versions of the 5 and 6 (kept the 5 because it's a nice blue color and the colors last year were terminally boring.) I also have the 6 Classic and I still have my 5 Pro. I could see keeping the 5 Pro because I really like its simple aesthetic. It's just large enough without being huge and can be dressed up or down. The classics trend a bit more sporty with the more pronounced rotating bezel. I'm hoping the new SoC gives a good performance boost as the Galaxy Watches are all noticeably slower than the PW2, Ticwatch Pro 5, and the OnePlus Watch 2. I do need to start selling off watches though. I may do a mass trade in of old stuff on the Watch 7 and just sell them off NiB assuming the trade in deals are good. The standard Galaxy Watches aren't really doing anything for me anymore, so I don't think there's much point of holding on to them. bull3964 fucked around with this message at 03:12 on Jun 13, 2024 |
