Unfortunately no, though it would be a nice detail. There *might* be a dilemma regarding this in the game, but I'm not sure. Generally though, there is no difference in the policies available between countries.

Yeah, I get the feeling that this is probably mostly a poor choice of name for this situation. It's another one of those 'gameplay over realism' decisions, as many of these situations are there mostly to stop people from pursuing a very extreme ideology. It kinda sorta makes sense that overtaxing entrepreneurs should have some negative effect on the business climate, even if it probably wouldn't take the form of a mass exodus of the rich part of the population.

Maybe there's some hyperbole, it isn't a mass exodus, just a few big names moving offices and doing more outsourcing, or something.

So what, there's street corner drug dealers supplying people with illegal drugs if they can't afford them due to taxes, but there's no moonshiners doing the same for alcohol?

Anyway, Mansion Tax to maximum. Need more money, and gently caress the rich.

Yeah, the main problem with Democracy 3 for me is that, all in all, it isn't a really great simulation of anything approaching anything like a real state. It can still be quite fun though, depending on how you implement your policies.

A controversial piece of legislation allowing "on demand" abortions is passed, sparking both national and international outrage from conservative groups.

Half-way through the first term, things are still looking bleak.

With the ongoing economic crisis, a debate has flamed up regarding egregious corporate bonuses, and the LFAP will have to take a side.

Income is still declining, and with the global economy solidly in the pits and a €55 billion euro deficit each quarter, the government is under increased pressure to cut spending or raise taxes.

Popularity is down again, as any support the LFAP had with the religious is blown away in exchange for a minute gain from the liberals who already love them.

With two years left to the election, this leaves them with the lowest approval rating in quite some time.

At least they have accomplished their stated goal of pissing of the religious. Surely these god-fearing people should be the least likely to take any form of violent action against the government?

And on the bright side, alcohol abuse is still going down!

I don't think I've shown this policy off, it's one of my favorites:

It boosts technology and productivity over time, making it a good way to increase the GDP. In the short term, it decreases unemployment (as people are hired to build the robots), but in the long term it increases unemployment (as workers are replaced with the robots, including those who were building them in the first place)

The best part is that it happens mostly for the Luxury Tax. Huge CIT doesn't piss them off as much as yachts and Rolex watches being more expensive - and of course, the people who use them clearly are so important for the economy that them moving to another country heavily impacts your economy.

I haven't shown off the agricultural subsidies, have I?

This is one of the main things the farmers really really care about. It is also hugely expensive, and the major tangible benefit is that it helps reduce unemployment. (And I guess we count pissing off the capitalists as a benefit, as well)

It also increases obesity by a lot, as well as decreasing health slightly. I guess that the reasoning for this is that it drives down the prices on meat and and fat dairy products leading to excess consumption. This would kinda make sense if Germany was a completely closed economy, but in many European countries meat imported from other countries is quite a bit cheaper than domestically produced. And since agricultural subsidies are a huge thing in the rest of the EU open market (resulting in the EU producing a huge surplus of food), removing the subsidies in Germany would likely not result in any huge changes in consumption. And no, the cheaper food has no effect on poverty or anything of the sort.

But, as many has noted in the thread, Democracy 3 is very much more of a game than a simulation, so I can forgive the lack of complexity and things like this not making sense. Personally, I'd go so far as to regard the game as toy more than an actual game, as it becomes a bit dull when you are just trying to stay in power and make everybody happy as there isn't much challenge once you find out how to game the system. It's still lots of fun to dick around with and see what kind of stuff happens, as I hope this bizarro-germany is proving. :cryinglederhosen:

Ghost of Mussolini
Jun 26, 2011
Just like in real life, agricultural subsidies should be eliminated. They're a huge drain on the budget and completely ineffective, merely held together by a lobby. I assume farmers make up a small amount of the electorate, so for 7.32bn in savings that can either be cut from the budget or taxes (and added savings in health care), the whole thing should be slashed. Less agricultural subsidies should also make people shift away from the farmer group as they have less money!
