You could say the same about Melee ICs, but there's people that'll take them to the top. It's just that using ICs requires a completely different mindset since you're deal with the AI and a secondary character that you have to alternate attacks with to keep up combos and pressure. Also, once you lose your Nana you have to switch it up and play complete different. No other character is like that now that Zelda and Sheik can't change things up to alter their playstyles. Because off all of this a lot of people don't pick up ICs.

Lucario's aura is a big factor when you lose a stock, and if you lose a stock first I believe his aura gain is faster on the next stock.

You can tweak your playstyle with Lucario, but you don't have to, your opponent has to change things up and be more cautious. But Lucario is meant to be played at low % and you're only getting unearned buffs (this is bad design) so it's gravy but the ICs are meant to be learned at their peak with 2 of them. But once you lose Nana now certain moves aren't safe because you don't have anyone covering you with a secondary attack, recovery is nerfed, specials are pretty worthless, combo game is gone, etc.

I really hope they add random to quick play. I haven't smashed in a while, opting instead for Splatoon, and a big part is feeling like I have to zero in on a character in quick play. I don't like to play handheld when on my mains, for obvious reasons, and setting up docked is a time investment that I don't often do. It gets annoying fast playing a character I don't really know and having to quit constantly to change it. An automatic random choice would really speed things up and allow me to just enjoy playing mindlessly.

Saw that earlier, it's an absolute joke. Aren't there rules in place about having to attack your opponent, rather than turtling? I seem to remember a Smash match recently where the judges had to tap both competitors on the shoulder to get them attacking again.

Nope. There are rules against certain stalling techniques but only if they remove your opponent's ability to act. Brawl had some convoluted rules like Ledge Grab Limit because they refused to ban Meta Knight and had to account for his ability to infinitely stall at the ledge. That's about it.

'Zoning' usually means attacking at a distance, not completely refusing to engage for near the entire match and running down the clock. I can't blame anyone for jeering such a lovely display of sportsmanship
