Right up there with like an Round headlight Sedan DeVille or an '68-70 Olds 98, only better, because hidden headlights.

MrYenko posted:“Intense emotional appeal.” That same museum has one of these: ![]() https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfa_Romeo_SZ And I'm sorry but that still looks like the future. AND has what I would call "intense emotional appeal". Even that Ford thing at least is trying, like it looks like it was drawn by some starry eyed kid on the back of a Trapper Keeper. i just really don't like the current styling trends of the industry. Just put more lines, idk try one here

The story behind that model is odd and is the kind of thing that could only happen at Chrysler. It was originally the last full sized Imperial. As an Imperial it was sales failure and the entire brand was discontinued. Chrysler being Chrysler they couldn’t let the tooling go to waste so a year later they lowered the price and rebadged it as the Chrysler New Yorker Brougham, and it sold much better.

I briefly couldn't figure out if I had just forgotten what that era of Taurus looked like or what. The Ford badge certainly didn't help but the rest of the images quickly did.

I was marveling at the thickness of the door/c pillar interface on my car unloading my kiddo from a trip to the car museum where they had an original 300sl gull wing. The "super wide sill" just looks like the massive sill my 2 year old struggles with every day on our modern car Vs my 30's era designed car, where the door is two pieces of sheet metal spaced just far enough apart to squeeze a pane of glass and the crank mechanism. There's not enough space for a lock so that's built into the door handle. Both cars have roughly the same horizontal interior widths but the older car is physically much smaller externally

Why buy a X1/3/5 when you can just get a CX-90?
|

The CX90 is huge in comparison to X1/X3 You can also go into a BMW dealership and order any of those cars as you see fit, and in a couple months it shows up. You can't do that with Mazda.

I've been looking for a good explanation of how the old prewar Bugatti crankshafts were put together, just because they looked so crazy and unusual, and ![]() He has a kind of round about rambling style of talking where he includes all the context up front and then gets to the details later but in the end it all meshes together nicely. His story about racing type 35s back in the 1980s makes a lot more sense when he starts talking about the roller bearings and how they're oiled etc If you want to just see the crank and how it comes apart (it's held together with squared pins!) that's about a third of the way through, and then he talks about the oiling system which is pretty clever involves a groove on the inside of the crank and centripetal force, near the last third https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpohTIT7KSA Pretty cool video overall even if it clocks in at almost 45 minutes but really gives a lot of insight into what a 3 main roller bearing 1.5L inline 8 looks like and how it goes together He references his accent a couple times I think it's an English class thing? He's got a bit of a gravely cockney accent I guess he's just proud to working on pre war Bugattis Hadlock fucked around with this message at 05:54 on Jul 21, 2023 |
