I have the backer beta but I've held off of it for fear of spoiling ~~the experience~~. If I want to make a rogue pc who specializes in gibbing people with guns, what would be a reasonable starting stat distribution?

I believe in the code, the formula for recovery penalty still includes the animation length as well. Your old chart indicated that 2H has a 30 frame animation, 30 frame recovery and 30 frame recovery penalty from the 2H recovery penalty. Over 20 seconds, assuming no armor, 10 Dex. 0 Sec = Attack A 2.2 Sec = Attack B 4.4 Sec = Attack A 6.6 Sec = Attack B 8.8 Sec = Attack A 11 Sec = Attack B 13.2 Sec = Attack A 15.4 Sec = Attack B 17.6 Sec = Attack A 19.8 Sec = Attack B Weapon A attacks 5 times. 0 Sec = Attack A 2.8 Sec = Attack A 5.6 Sec = Attack A 8.4 Sec = Attack A 11.2 Sec = Attack A 14 Sec = Attack A 16.8 Sec = Attack A 19.6 Sec = Attack A Weapon A attacks 8 times.

There are recommended specs on Steam. It's a far less demanding game than, say, Wasteland 2 or Dead StateBig Bottom posted:Rope kid did you find you were able to use any of your ideas/quests/writing from The Black Hound in PoE?

D:OS combat always seemed fun I just sorta lost interest in the story about 3/4ths of the way in. It got predictable.

I remember the global mult previously being 1.4 or something, but what I was seeing wasn't corresponding to it, so I assumed it wasn't there anymore.

So how does this work with attack/recovery/action speed modifiers? If I have +10% attack speed, +15% action speed, and -30% recovery speed, and am using a 1H sword, are my total number of frames spent recovering something like (30 * 0.9 * 0.85) * (1.5 * 1.3 * 0.85 * 1.2) ?

Even when Divinity: Original Sin's combat lost its sheen, I still think the designers did a good job at shuffling the game's elements and altering the pace and situations to keep it fresh (granted, Cyseal is my favorite location, so I wish they'd kept the badass hub for later and started with a smaller Act 2-like location, but that kind of criticism is easy to make in hindsight). Admittedly, I haven't finished the game because I got distracted with other stuff, but it certainly wasn't for lack of interest.

I didn't even get that far, they completely threw the baby out with the bathwater when it came to quest signposting and it ended up becoming a wiki-consulting game for me as much as anything else. I'm glad PoE can provide cutting edge next-gen features such as 'useful descriptions and directions in your journal'

PoE has a journal page where you can write your own dated entries which is pretty cool. The only annoying part is when you press enter it makes a new entry instead of a new paragraph. ~*my

My co-op partner bailed on D:OS because he thought it was "too nerdy" and the game actually isn't that much fun single player I hope that Pillars of Eternity doesn't have any pixel-hunting puzzles, those are incredibly dumb in an isometric RPG

Larian's entire design philosophy seems to be 'wouldn't it be cool/funny is we did X' with no thought given to whether it actually create an enjoyable product. Publishers actually seemed to do a good job of reigning them in a D:OS is the first game of theirs where that soured the game for me completely

Div: OS was fun as hell, though. Anyway, what last-minute balance changes are you guys hoping for? I'm hoping the other ranged weapons are brought up to snuff with the guns in a way that doesn't make guns useless and that the druid gets nerfed down a bit because they seem to be too good at anything they want to do. Hell, they even heal better than the Priest once they get 4th level spells.

I wanted to like D:OS but the fun:tedious ratio was way off. I adored the combat but it felt like most of my time spent playing was managing my inventory and fighting the terrible interface.

I'd like to see Per buffed a little, one handed weapons buffed, and...that's mostly it, really. Per being the big one: its okayish on melee characters but really not useful on ranged Ines at all. A steady stream of interrupts from a low-damage high ROF bow would be really useful long-term but its just not worth putting points into Per at all right now. The game is fairly balanced now, IMO.

SunAndSpring posted:Div: OS was fun as hell, though. I don't know enough about druids and barbarians and rangers to really comment on them. I'd like to see bows get a little bonus damage based on the numbers I've seen so far, yeah, but I'm not 100% convinced by the tables I've seen; I think people may not be properly accounting for the benefits of enchantments and gear we'll see in the final release. The beta was under-geared. Those bonuses matter more for weapons that fire faster so that may be why bows seem underpowered right now. ON the other hand the numbers guys may be 100% correct but I'm reserving judgment. I'd like to see Perception get boosted somehow but that's too big a change to happen right now I'm sure. Maybe in a patch down the road. I hope there are some padded armors that loo less goofy. I've heard there is a bug that makes penetrating shot make your spells fire more slowly and that worries me a bit, if so I'd like that fixed. I'd like to see the Bleak Walker paladin talent inspire fear centered in a radius from the slain target, not in a radius from the paladin himself. I'd like a button added to pause at the end of each character in your party's action (spell, swing, etc.) I'd like more of the priest religious weapon talents changed so they all had a ranged option, even if it were just a reach weapon. Magran's great with Arquebus but most of the favored weapons are close range and who puts their priests in the front rank? Not sure what else. Oh, yeah, add a third reach weapon with slashing damage. Halberd or Glaive. Put it in Knight group. Obviously won't happen by release since it would need new art. Maybe add spell accuracy talents. Again, not something that will or should happen by release. I'm pretty happy with the balance and number of viable builds for each class. While it is definitely possible to build a mediocre character, it isn't like NWN2 where you have to have advanced knowledge of the game systems and meticulously plan your class/skill/feat selections to build an effective character. As long as you have an idea of what you want your character to do, it is pretty easy to tell which attributes/talents will complement that playstyle.

My favorite character concept right now is basically recreating Wesley-as-Dread-Pirate from Princess Bride. 1 handed fighter with rapier focused on movement and accuracy, high int/dex. The only thing is if I did that I would also want an Aumaua monk and a rapier-focused rogue as well... Maybe for a second play through with adventurers hall companions.

Since this is now the D:OS thread, I also bailed on it after the first map/area. Combat was fun (although it started to feel a little samey after a while) but the story was the reverse of compelling and I just... lost interest. Will still probably give it another go at some point.
