They are also decent items on both Malph/Naut, there isn't really a wasted stat on either item for those champs. It's actually kind of surprising people haven't been building them earlier. They haven't been changed in a while iirc. I guess neither of those champs were being played much in top before.

Other items have been nerfed substantially to make room (FH/Deadman's being the two most recent victims). Sometimes staying in place is the best way to get ahead.

The buff you get from maw can be pretty silly, but I don't think it's bad enough that they'll completely dumpster the item
