Yeah, I thought of that too but they'll still look at the HPG complex. But maybe it'll work pretty well as a distraction, an HPG transmitting should draw the eye pretty well.

Behind Enemy Lines: Tactical Update 9 “Well, that was a wash,” Bad grumbled, grinding a large stone into the dirt beneath the Maelstrom’s cloven feet. “There’s so much residual heat and iron in the soil that my computer can’t get a lock.” “They’re in the same boat. I guess we’re still feeling each other out,” Ballista agreed, his voice heavily distorted by the War Dog’s own high-power ECM. “I’m not going to be satisfied if we leave before knocking out at least two more of them. Hellhound, what’s our targeting priority? We need to eliminate some of their long-range firepower to make them less willing to pursue us into the badlands but I don’t think we can ignore the Thunder for long.” “Use your best judgment,” was Hellhound’s reply. “We’ve hurt them. We’re going to hurt them more. As long as all four of us walk out of here in one piece I’ll be more than happy to call it a victory. Still: if anyone’s armor breaches I want you to back off or even withdraw. We’ve all got XL engines but I suspect the new Capellan designs probably do too. I’d say: pick a partner and focus fire with them but we may not have that luxury. Whiffarific! Sorry to be tedious, PTN, but the Sha Yu doesn't have the listed armor value; if that was the target for the Cerb's Gauss hit, there's a crit incoming. Though it might be another miss and so just a C/P thing.

Hm, now might be a change to get good shots on the Penetrator, it only moved two hexes. If a unit (like the Thunder) has a weapon split between arm and torso, it can't flip it's arms and shoot backwards, right?

Well be fair, the lighter lance the Capellans started with has been torn to shreds and their heavies have only just closed the distance for a proper fight. That last turn was pretty drat unlikely in terms of everything missing, true, but now everyone's pretty close-in that should change. Really close-in, actually. This doesn't seem like a great setup for the players, shouldn't they be backing up more? Could nightfall help with Carlos's escape? If searchlight rules or what have you kick in maybe he'll have some cover from the darkness.

Planning on turning and walking backwards to 0615, which should keep me out of the Jinggau's firing arc; I think I can decline LOS to the Sha Yu as well. Then I should be able to open up on the Yu Huang in relative safety. If the Lightray continues its immoble search next turn, then I'll back up in its direction and let anyone shooting at me potentially be mistaken for shooting at ComStar.

I really have no idea what the best move is for myself or the War Dog. If we go forward for OK ish sorta positions or shots this turn we'll get trapped on the next one. I think if the War Dog backs up to 1015 he blocks LoS from everything but the Yu Huang, and can get good shots there (Probably 7s). But next turn there's 4 enemy mechs that can all get nearly on top of him, and the only way out would be to Kool Aid man through the building with the Grand Titan in it, or getting to 1012 or 1113 and potentially eating backshots. Granted, if they do that, the Cerb and I will be able to get backshots on them, but it gets really messy really fast. Or he can run to 1819 and exchange a lot of pulse fire with the Penetrator (6es to hit with MPLs ) but be a bit harder to bottle up on the following turn. I'm sorta thinking to go 1112 for myself and shoot the Yu Huang, but that's just a first thought. I could also back up to 0511 where I would be a target for a shitload of stuff, but they'd risk dinging the Lightray maybe. So might be worth it? Remember you can't change elevation while walking in reverse, so backing up to 0511 won't work; you'll have to turn and run over there, and won't have enough MP left to turn back around fully. 1112 is the spot that jumps out at me - I think the only one with LOS on you from there is the Yu Huang, and you'll have partial cover. Not really loving the War Dog's options. I'm not 100% sure his best option isn't 'run to 1615, unload on the Yu Huang, and go for a kick' or 'move to 1419 and unload on the slow-moving Penetrator,' either of which will see him focused to gently caress and probably in a rotten position for next turn but he may be too far forward to be anything other than aggro. Let's not commit to that just yet, though. e: War Dog could also move to 1221, torso twist to face 1322, and get some shots on the Penetrator before possibly moving to use those rows of buildings for cover or at least maneuvering such that any shots the Capellans take at him have the HPG in the sight picture - which the Capellans are probably just as leery of as we are... and any move they make to chase him could give the rest of us some more fun options. The power costs are enormous. Also Pacifica is wracked by near-constant thunderstorms so the HPG only get used on clear days when the power grid isn't going to make the capacitors explode. Also the population's tiny and poor so who has money to use the spacephone anyway?

PoptartsNinja posted:Because I have so little concern for its safety, the Thunder is going to let me dictate the terms of the next 4-6 turns if you don't kill or cripple it. Another ECM question- If one of us runs ECM and the other runs ghost targets, do we get the ghost targets? Since I think the Sha Yu is running ECCM it shouldn't counter both of us, right? e: So some more options. If we want to really make an effort to knock someone down, I can run back up to 817, the cerb can back to 814 (More dangerous but more damage potential from your MPLs) or 813 (5 hexes for long MPL/medium ML range), and we can unload on the Jinggau to try and knock it over, followed up with a kick from me. I'd be shooting and getting shot on 9s, with a kick on 6. The War Dog could back to 1015 and shoot the Yu Huang on 8s. If we breach that RT, I think allll the ammo is there (Both AC20 and LRM10), and it's an XL machine. (No CASE either I think). I'd guess the Nightstar would probably want to plug the Yu Huang as well. I think we're out of options for really continuing to dance backwards while taking potshots. +8 Wait, no, that's not quite right. +∞ ECM works in layers but you have to exceed the number of enemy ECCMs present to get an effect. If you both ghost target the same thing you'll overpower the ECCM's ability to counter your ghost targets. Angel ECM counts as two of these, or can be run in both ECM/ECCM mode simultaneously. edit: Hilariously, a unit with Stealth Armor and Angel ECM can run in ECM/ECCM mode while stealth armor is activated but the ECCM becomes hostile to and only affects the Stealth Armor unit itself. So it will gain 10 heat for running Stealth Armor without getting any of the benefits. PoptartsNinja fucked around with this message at 03:06 on Jul 16, 2015 |
