If anyone wants a quick rule of thumb for what weapon types are generally good for, use this. Also I am a very goony 40k nerd and I like writing about it. Stubbers: 9mm pistols and AK-47s that have survived for 37,000 years. Good against methheads and crack addicts but not much else. Lone exception being the Heavy Stubber which is, in some cases literally, a Browning M2 .50 cal. Here's a twin-linked heavy stubber. Autoguns: The stubber given a facelift. Throws the same or larger caliber bullets as a stubber but but does it faster and with more force without sacrificing accuracy. Good for taking out Gangers who are hopped up something. Autocannon: Anything bigger than an autogun that still throws out solid projectiles. Most common one is described as taking the main cannon off of a WWI tank, putting it on a tripod, and making it fire five times as fast. Can eat heavy infantry and light vehicles for breakfast, and can take down bigger tanks if you shoot them enough. Lasguns: It's pronounced 'lahs' like the 'la' in 'lamb' with a soft 's' after it and I will knife fight any cheeky fucker who says otherwise. Not 'lays' or 'lazz' or any other stupid poo poo. Anyway, they are the tits. They shoot as fast as an autogun, blast through even two-inch thick concrete, are drat near indestructible, carry five times the ammo for half the weight and are point-and-shoot easy to use accurately. Laspistols sacrifice ammo capacity for a smaller size and increased badassness. What are the downsides you ask? While they can blow through today's materials they don't do dick against space armor. Still, they'll kill Guardsmen, Eldar Guadrians, Tau Firewarriors, and 'Gaunts in droves, and will kill their fair share of Space Marines if you throw enough shots at them. And spoiler alert: we aren't running out of lasers any time soon. Lascannons: Like Autocannons it deserve its own category. All las-weapons work exactly the same, the only difference scaling it up or down, and the Imperium is really drat good at scaling their tech. The lascannons is the biggest a las-weapon you can get and still call it man portable. And it will wreck your poo poo and do it from across the battlefield. Anything smaller than a superheavy tank fears these. Bolters: Supposedly only for the Space Marines and the best of the best of humanity but in practice everyone of Sergeant rank and above gets a bolt pistol unless they are from some hobo regiment. They shoot diamond tipped micro-nukes and if that doesn't make your scrunty dick rock hard then you can go gently caress yourself. Point them at Ork Boyz and the like and watch them explode into meaty chunks. Heavy Bolters shoot even bigger shells at a faster rate. Flamers: The Imperium runs on two things; human suffering and promethium, and it has more than enough of both. Promethium is a thick gel that ignites with the air. So of course the Imperium put it in a super soaker. It burns balls hot and sticks like tar to most things. It's also what drat near every vehicle runs on, so in a pinch cut a fuel line and go to town. Plasmaguns: Now we're getting somewhere. It's exactly what it sounds like, it shoots tiny star-hot balls of super condensed gases and you can laugh as it vaporizes a Space Marine's crotchplate like paper plate in a blast furnace. The bad news is that the Mechanicus hasn't really mastered the whole concept, so they are prone to exploding if used improperly. But what cooler way to die is there? Metlaguns: Have you ever wondered what would happen if you took your door off your microwave? Have you ever wondered what would happen if you did that and then cranked the dial up to eleven thousand? Meltaguns shoot a burst of conductive gases and then a blast of microwaves so powerful they turn absolutely everything into vapor. Technically it's all invisible but it gets so hot the air spontaneously catches fire. Very few things can survive getting shot with one, and if we find one then we're hosed. Melee Weapons: Stab, cut, or beat a bitch with whatever is pointy/sharp/heavy on hand. Monoweapons: Bladed (or pointed) weapons made of a ceramic-steel alloy and honed to an edge that is one-molecule thick. You know those animes where they cut something and then it doesn't fall apart for a few seconds? This does that. The guys that discovered the blueprints to make monoweapons got to be king of their own planet. Power Weapons: Take a monoweapon and then cover it in lasers. Will cut through most anything, and on the off chance that whatever you hit isn't killed by the power field then it still works as a good sword/axe/mace/whatever. credit to First Person Shitter Born on a mineral dense imperial mining outpost, Uroks childhood took place on a gravity heavy, scorching hot ball of valuable resources. The son of a miner and bar wench, Urok was raised in the tunnels, bars, whorehouses and prisons of one of the Imperium's shittiest, hottest mines. Surrounded by the men, mutants and scrunts who fulfilled the lowest, most basic rung of labor on the hive, Urok watched his brethren spend their lives making very large rocks into smaller rocks. Uroks spent the first years of his life assisting in this noble endeavour, swinging pick-axes and shovels in lovely hot tunnels For The Glory of The Emperor. Urok faithfully swung his pick-axe and melted ore all day while faithfully drinking at the tunnel bar every night until he passed out. To fund his drive to drink, Urok fought in the underground tunnel bare-knuckle boxing circuit. Urok enjoyed hitting men, mutants and scrunts with both his fist so much, he started hitting the rocks in the tunnels with his fists. After years spent toiling in the lovely hot tunnels, Urok had wracked up an unparalleled winning record as well as a tab that neither his grandfather, father, himself and his family unto several generations could possibly payback. The mutant owning the tunnel bar took notice of Uroks powerful build, ability to follow simple clear directions, and rumor of his steadily declining production quotas, and decided to offer Urok a job. The clientele of the the tunnel bar were not genteel men, and fights over bitches and booze were the norm. The mutant was losing patrons due to everyone knocking each other out, and losing booze as collateral damage. Urok was told to deal with trouble makers and keep the establishment in good order. Urok interpreted this as knocking the gently caress out of anyone causing any disturbances, and after the first few nights of piles of unconscious bodies outside the door, profits soared, alcohol flowed, and legs were spread thanks to Uroks fine work. Urok learned to use a wide variety of weapons to hit people with in addition to his fists, and eventually learned how to read a crowd and identify troublemakers. Urok kept the flamer he used to melt ore, and never hesitated to whip it out when someone needed discouragement or a light. He often amused patrons by shooting highly accurate jets of flame across the bar in order to light a pretty scruntesses cigar. One fateful night, Urok accidentally punched a human too hard, and killed him. Now, this sometimes happened several times a night, but this human was special. He was the son of the tunnel mayor. The tunnel mayor put a price on Uroks poor scrunt head. Uroks used his underground bareknuckle boxing connections to smuggle him aboard a transport shipping Scruntwise Ale in order to let the heat cool off but for some reason is now heading out of system. quote:Urok dislikes Kreb for always hanging back and using a gun. After growing up in the confines of the tunnels and boxing ring, Urok believes a real scrunt does his damage up close, scrunt to scrunt. code:

Oh god the Scrunt images. Good intros, all. Heavy will begin with a Heavy Stubber; close combat scrunt will probably want to aim for ambidextrous + two weapon fighting which is easily doable, and will have a flamer too; most scrunts will start with an autogun as their standard weapon except the ranged scrunt who will have some sort of bigger gun I haven't decided on and the sniper who will have a sniper rifle, and maybe there's others I've forgotten. Basically you will start with relatively basic but servicable weapons usable for killing mans, and swiftly acquire/scavenge/steal/create more deadly ones suitable for killing orks/tanks/buildings/titans as you tear around and loot supplies.

Scrunts! The Heavy's charsheet! The Medic's charsheet! The Operator's charsheet! The Sergeant's charsheet! The CQ Specialist's charsheet! The Ranged Specialist's charsheet! The Sniper's charsheet! The Technoscrunt's charsheet! Take your charsheet, copy it into your signup post using [code] tags. Update the name. Then, take the following numbers: quote:20 18 16 14 12 12 12 6 6 and slot them into your statline wherever you choose. It should be fairly obvious what stats you want (e.g. Medic wants Intelligence so as to doctor effectively, Ranged Specialist wants BS), but it may also require some thought (e.g. Sniper wants BS, but also has an unmodified 07 toughness so may also want to bump that up). Please jabber and yell in-thread if you want any help, plus I'll let you swap this stuff around until we get settled. Then, because you are classed as a Penal Regiment, you get +3 to any two of Strength, Toughness or Agility. Slot that in. Characteristic breakpoints tend to be multiples of 10 (e.g. you soak 1pt more damage at T 40 than at T 39) - the tens digit of any of your characteristics is your Characteristic Bonus. You rarely use Ballistic Skill or Weapon Skill bonuses, although raw stat numbers are kinda important for buying talents, skills etc. Basically, try to aim for You currently have no spent experience points. That'll be filled in. XP I will wait to see how your characters are before spending it for you, because it is quite complex at first - further XP that you gain in-game I will try to get you guys to spend. You can buy extra characteristics, skills, and talents. Your Aptitudes on your charsheets dictate what sort of stuff is cheap for you to buy - e.g. if you have Ballistic Skill you can raise BS quite cheaply; if you have BS and Finesse you can raise it super cheap - but for now, don't worry too much about that. Just realise that if you have Fellowship and Social then you might be good as a party face, that sort of thing. You're also still missing a bunch of skill info/talent info/weapon info and that's because I'm lazy it'll get done tomorrow.

Sorry I should have mentioned how the statting works. I will use the Technoscrunt as an example as I still have it opencode:
code:
30 is roundabout "competent professional" in a stat; 20 is "pretty bad", and 40 is "really pretty good". These stats are scaled for Scrunts so it's more of a case of "right this social test in formal surroundings that I wouldn't even roll for with a human is going to be -20 Fellowship for a scrunt". Please pass the salt >> roll 99 CRITICAL FUMBLE

Can I trade my Scruntrifle, Scrunt Melee, and Scrunt Pistol all in for my Double-Double-Beamy-Blaster? I figure it would have the following stats: Class: Basic Las Range: 30m ROF: -/4/- Damage: 1d10+2E Pen: 0 Clip: 120 Reload: 2 Full Weight: 6kg Special: Unreliable Basically it's a laspistol that can only be fired on semi-auto and trades reliable for unreliable and is considered basic rather than pistol. Also it's a right bitch to reload.

The stats on that make it considerably worse than, well, any other gun ever. So no you can't have that as it is. I will make up some better stats for it. You can have it as a gun (trade for regular pistol) or you can have it on a ballistic mechandrite (use up mechandrite slot). You other scrunts will get cool stuff as well, just do your stats first.

I prettied up my character sheet and added what bionics I took in it's own catagory to make things easier on you. I've played a lot of Dark Heresy so the rules are more or less familiar to me. I'll wait on you to decide what the Double-Double-Beamy-Blasta does and I'll swap it for the Autopistol. I also renamed some of my equipment; it's all the same stuff, just more appropriate names.

Moola posted:I would also like to add my bionics on my sheet but I dunno what to do? Can do! All descriptions are copied/paraphrased from the Only War rulebook, pg 204-206 Poor Bionic Leg: Poor Craftsmanship models are lumbering affairs that reduce a character’s movement rate by one, and when running the user must succeed on an Ordinary (+10) Agility Test or fall at the end of his movement. Poor Cybernetic Eye: Poor cybernetic eyes are problem-ridden imitations of the real thing, it's vision is rendered in low-resolution monochrome. A character with this system suffers a –20 penalty to Tests made involving the cybernetic sense. Poor Bionic Arm: Poor Craftsmanship versions are more cumbersome and visibly artificial; halve the owner’s Agility score where matters of fine dexterity are involved. In addition, Weapon Skill and Ballistic Skill Tests made when using the limb take a –5 penalty. I'd wait for scalded to ok these, though.

Moola idk I mean you can have the lovely bionics if you want but if I were you I'd just treat them as fluff and make poor tactical choices to make up for it. If you're set then just have the leg do the "test or fall over" thing when running, the arm count as basically unusable for driving (meaning someone else has to assist you at all times if you're driving stick), and the eye will occasionally fritz out and do bad things when it would be interesting (glow red when hiding, switch to xray when viewing rare works of art, explode etc). Tin Tim your scrunt looks good and maybe put a carriage return in the Really loving Scrunty line, as that's the longest. Code tags don't do word wrap automatically. Ignite Memories your scrunt is also good but maybe swap out your Strength and Toughness stat choices. As mentioned, multiples of ten are the breakpoint for stat bonuses and while a toughness of 43 is not hugely different from 40, a strength of 39 is very different to that of 40. Plus if you have 40 strength then with a bit of XP stuff your character will be able to run around shooting heavy weapons with no problem - normally you need to brace them, which takes a bit of time. Who What Now cool re: reskins etc, and I will figure out a gun for you but at the moment I am thinking of a cut-range laslock with Inaccurate, Tearing, Twin-Linked and Overheats. You get two powerful bolts that roll two dice for damage and discard lowest - but it's only got one shot before you need to spend a round reloading, you can't really aim it, and it might melt your arm off. Phoon your scrunt is good, you have another penal regiment bonus though. You get two. I suggest putting it into Agility to make you walk faster.
