It’s pretty good, no more broken than the latest fan patch. The thing about the fan patch is that beyond a certain point, almost all of the changes are very minor and cosmetic. Moving prop objects around levels, etc.

No promises it'll look good on your monitor, but it's mostly slight color correction and a touch of static distant blur & bloom. Just create a text file named "VtMB-ReShade.ini" where your game exe is and paste this into it then load the preset in Reshade using the ingame menu. Be sure to download the shaders listed next to "Techniques" when installing Reshade else they won't be there to load obvs. code:

I'm hoping they'll find a way to play into the supernatural elements again, ghosts, zombies, places that'll give a good scare. That sense of dread the Ocean House hotel gave really grounds the player into understanding that they aren't the most powerful creature in the world, they are but a fledgling. You don't really experience that feeling for the rest of the game, the few times where you understand your weaknesses are Prince LaCroix dominating you if you refuse to do a mission, and the werewolf near the end of the game. The Gargoyle, Hammerhead, and Sewer Boss can all be gamified in comparison.

I really enjoyed all those elements, too. Bloodlines did a good job of making the supernatural in the oWod feel diverse and lived-in, rather than just name checking and cheap cameos of other white wolf properties.

Blade is cool as hell. Interview with the Vampire is one of those weird films that seems like it just shouldn't work , but they somehow pull everything together and it's fascinating. My recommendation is What We Do in the Shadows, it's a mockumentary about New Zealand vampire society. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2w3H_oLSIU It even got picked up as a tv series that premiers next week. Honestly, the thing that saddens me on replay is alot of sequences just don't have the same impact. The first time, blind, in Ocean Hotel, or the prosthetics place, I was crawling along all anxious and unsure. Replay is basically dashing around hitting the event triggers to get back to the game. No real solution to that, but Bloodlines is definitely one of those games I wish I could play again for the first time.

Buy it day 1 without looking at reviews or having seen any footage. Sure, there's a risk of getting burnt, but also not knowing anything has the possibility of actually allowing things to surprise you. I do exactly the same thing with films I'm interested in, it's just that the upfront investment if it's terrible is lower. (Or at least I try to, self control and all that.) As in, I know quests in this area require 6 persuasion, so that's the next goal. Oh and hacking 4 here. ignore dexterity, but pump lockpicking. Dump the rest into stealth at first, combat later. It's similar to how fallout new vegas characters always end up with high speech/science/repair/lockpicking, because that's how the min-max cookie crumbles. Conversely, for all its flaws, alpha protocol separate player stats from player actions relatively successfully. Your choices and options were influenced but separate from your character's stats (ie if you hack a computer you gain background info that opens dialogue options). I guess it's part of being an older game but still makes me ponder what would be a good way to alter that.

The problem is that choosing between Skill A and Skill B is almost never a choice between equally appealing rewards. And in fairness, as the number of different skills and skill checks goes up it's virtually impossible to keep all that poo poo remotely balanced. Also players are always going to be attracted to getting into locked places and passing speech checks in your RPG. So people are always going to zero in on those unless you create multiple equally good ways of getting into poo poo and unlocking things in dialog. Which just makes things more complicated and harder to balance anyway.

He's a very good non-licensed fiction horror writer, so they might be good. I remember reading the Greg Stolze Fire in the Blood etc nWoD books when I was desperate to find some non-awful WoD fiction and thinking they were legitimately decent horror novels, not just decent-for-licensed-fiction.

Old Clan Tzimisce are an entire bloodline of Eastern European feudal lords with Dominate replacing Vicissitude, for that extra hypnotic gaze goodness. Of course, Dracula's in the strange position of having inspired a couple of clans by himself (Ventrue, Gangrel, Tzimisce, plus Malkavian if you count Renfield), so when they made his sheet they gave him a respectable number of Disciplines: White Wolf Wikia posted:Clan: Tzimisce

I love that the sequel is set in Seattle; Vampire LARPs were huge here in the late 90s when I was a moody teen. "Kesper North" was a name I liked the sound of that I cadged from a Tanith Lee novel to use for a Tremere character that I recycled for EVE Online. (Not the only thing I recycled; Vampire politicking was a great prep course for EVE politicking.)

If we're just throwing out vampire fiction recommendations, I really like the Passage by Justin Cronin. I've been meaning to get to the Historian, which is apparently DraculaXThe Da Vinci Code. Sounds suitably trashy enough to be enjoyable.

The best hosed up vampire story is Octavia Butler's Fledgling, which goes out of its way to paint the POV as a loving monster and also has that good fun Vampire Politicking going on around the halfway mark.

There's been a 2010 comic book release that's highly faithful if you just want visuals. On that note, Mike Mignola apparently worked on Bram Stoker's Dracula and did a comics adaptation as well. It's loving Mignola, so it's gorgeous, made me appreciate the movie somewhat more.

While we're on the topic of WoD/Vampire media in general, I kind of wonder if Geek & Sundry's L.A. By Night Actual Play Series is gonna be canon at all? Jason Carl from White Wolf is the storyteller for that, and I think he's at least marginally involved in 2? Would be interesting, especially since season 2 of that was basically my inoffical bloodlines sequel until we got an offical one.

Swedracula rattled his saber about integrating LARP across the world and creating a grand old living metaplot (extreme reliance on metaplot being a thing that plagued oWoD, and a thing much remembered and longed for by grogs) back when Paradox’s acquisition of the IP was first announced but it only served as an omen of his fundamental idiocy, like a kid springing for SLR in a gaming rig. It may yet factor into the game, but Bloodlines 1 carved out a space largely outside of metaplot and was all the richer for it. I doubt Mitsoda is high on the notion, but who knows.
