Question about Hydrocity Act 2 boss: why are people having so much trouble with it? Unless I'm misremembering isn't it the same boss as Act 1 in the original games? With the U-shaped water pit and the spherical boss that churns the water for a few seconds? Am I thinking of something else because that's probably the easiest boss in the game :psyduck:

Knuckles can't jump high enough to hit it, the same as in S3&K, however they've also removed the other way knuckles can easily hit him, which is to spin dash up the sides ahead of him and land on top of him as he cycles. As now his rotating fire arms make him into one giant damage box the entire time they're spinning. So the only way you can hit him without taking damage is to spin dash ramp up the sides as he's landing and jump off into him.

Admittedly I haven't played as Knuckles yet in Mania but this sounds like the same as it was in the past. You couldn't attack him while they were spinning then either.

Knuckles can jump high enough to hit all the bosses though.

You just can't do it from a dead stop. Try moving a bit and then jumping. Obviously this doesn't work for the boss that makes the gravity hold you closer to the floor, but it doesn't work for sonic in that situation either. But the water one is no problem.

It's harder than the original because it will hurt you if the rockets surrounding it are moving at all, when in Sonic 3 he had openings at all times. Also both him and the arena are larger so the strategy winds up being different. Finally there's a shorter window to hit him before the whirlpool starts.

Oil Ocean Act 1 boss is just awful. The spikes are off-screen so the launching platforms leading to a crush death is a total dick move. And there's a tiny gap in the middle where it's really precise but not impossible to fall.

Man these levels are so drat big and varied. I'm on my fourth full playthrough and I'm seeing entirely new level mechanics in Lava Reef Zone that I completely missed the last three times. Also an extremely cool giant ring location that requires you to use an invincibility power-up.

It didn't occur to me last time but are the walls climbable? I could only get one hit in per cycle with the spindash, jumping back and forth from the wall might be a better strategy.

Spin dash up the side when he lands and literally bounce off him 8 times in succession.

Anyone have advice for Blue Sphere? I've been replaying some levels to try to get all the emeralds/medals, and I've been making steady progress on the special stages, but I've only gotten a total of 7 medals in about 8 hours of playing.

Part of what messes me up is that the stages feel like they're a puzzle game, but one that moves way too fast and doesn't give you an accurate idea of what's going on. The most unfair-feeling one is the stage that has spring balls that launch you into clusters of blue spheres that can turn red, which makes the springs fling you blindly into unavoidable death if you haven't memorized the layout. Some of the other ones feel kind of like that too, especially the ones where you can block yourself off if you aren't careful. I'm not sure how to deal with it.

Don't really care about DLC but It might be nice if it got a patch eventually to iron out some of the bugs at least.

Died twice and got a game over in chemical plant water area to a bug. Two blocks moving side to side, one above the other, with a gap between them so sonic can stand on the lower block. But if you jump onto the lower block at the wrong time, the game decides you're crushed between the two blocks, when you've no problem fitting a standing sonic in the same situation.

Annoying.

DLC would be great for a game like this. It's not like it really needs an engine update.

I'd be more than happy to pay like £2 for a new stage each month.

That's funny, cuz even though Hydrocity 2 played well...I honestly thought they straight up ruined Hydrocity 1. It plays like poo poo and the boss is garbo.

Just make a legit Mania 2, half new levels and half revisits. I can think think of a bunch of zones I'd love to see get the Mania remix treatment: Hilltop, Angel Island, Mystic Cave, Ice Cap, Launch Base, Mushroom Hill, Marble Garden, Sky Sanctuary, Spring Yard, Aquatic Ruin, Casino Night (not Carnival).

And I'd cough up another 20bux for it, too.

I think there's enough for a Sonic Mania 2, probably not a Sonic Mania 3 though.
