I thought people moved on to other currencies to purchase drugs (or child pornography or worse) on the internet. Like people realized Bitcoin was actually poorly designed for purchase of black/grey-market goods and so people designed cryptocurrencies that did that better.

You don't buy things with currencies.... you store them away while the exponentially increase in value. Then you buy a lamborghini (with USD).

not really, because as other posters pointed out nobody actually uses bitcoin as a currency anymore because it's hilariously useless in that task, but in addition to that iirc cops figured out pretty quickly how to track stuff as it went through the tumbler because people have been trying to launder money in pools like that since the beginning of loving time and the bitcoiners weren't magically better at it somehow

bitcoin is perfect. it enables true free market which will weed out the weak competition. it will be a fierce battle among the merchants for consumers and only the strongest will survive. finally the consumers get rid of all consumer protection which is something they have been yearning all this time

also, it's hard to hide your tumbler transactions among millions of legitimate transactions if you don't have the latter

When you hear yet another gamer whining “GPUs are too expensive! Crypto should die in flames!” (self.CryptoCurrency)
submitted 10 hours ago by themetalfriend

There are two types of people who can't afford a new GPU:

People who blame others for their own financial situation: "I can't buy a new GPU because those crypto f#ckers made them too expensive"

People who accept the fact that their financial situation is the consequence of their own actions. They understand that they can’t afford a new GPU because they’re too poor, not because GPUs are too expensive. Instead of blaming others, such people are trying to improve themselves to make better financial and life decisions in the future.

The first type are people with a victim mentality, socialists and other losers. There is a good chance that they’ll never escape poverty (and it's their own fault). They don’t deserve any respect.

If you’re a gamer, strive to be the second type.

The electricity is not wasted: it's used to support the Bitcoin network, which is probably the single most important invention of the 21st century.

By the way, the cheapest type of energy these days is renewable energy.

Finding the cheapest source of energy is the most important task for a miner.

Meanwhile, many solar/wind/hydro/termo power plants are still underutilized. Utilizing them at full will speed up the process of transition to renewable energy.

It means, that miners are de facto subsidizing renewable energy. Cryptocurrencies are saving our planet.
