I don't know, this might be very the absolute standard mixer for the drink, but just in case it's not internationally known - spiced rum and fizzy orange taste very delicious together :)

Spiced rum and diet coke somehow tastes like root beer or cream soda depending on the rum.

Sailor Jerry’s and regular coke in the right proportions tastes exactly like Vanilla Coke.

But those right proportions involve a ton of rum. Like, nearly 50-50. It’s way too easy to get one thousand percent blitzed on those.

Speaking of cocktails, I recently discovered the sidecar and holy gently caress why aren't these the most popular drink on the planet? Two parts brandy, one part triple sec, one part lemon juice. I eschew the sugared rim and add a half part simple syrup instead. God damned heaven.

Eh, UB40 wasn’t all white, they were pretty mixed. The original members all went to school together in a working class area of Birmingham that had a lot of Jamaican immigrants living there so they grew up with both British and Caribbean music as influences. Ali Campbell always came across as all right and genuine in interviews. Plus UB40 started in 1979.

Cocktail seems a fancy word for what (as I remember) kids mix up and drink sitting around a fountain in the nearby plaça.

On the album Informer is from, there's another song called Lonely Monday Morning. The tune is different from Informer, and the chorus is different, but the lyrics of the verses are identical. Weird.

Also, I could swear I read somewhere something about Jamaican reggae folks being all like "yeah, he's a white guy but we're cool with it", but the last time I went looking I couldn't find it.

So, instead, have an Ashkenazi Orthodox Jew who does reggae about God and Judaism and stuff. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC08nqw3NQERl0-zFrLZbN-Q. I'm Ashkenazi and was raised Orthodox myself (atheist now) and I feel uncomfortable about this guy.

[head explodes] What? Popular music evolves iteratively, through different areas and groups influencing each other??

Wrong, musical genres are genetically inscribed in your haplogroups, and it's not possible to deviate from that. I'm not convinced those late seventies racially mixed two-tone groups existed at all.

A personal discovery (which wasn't brought up in the video) is the Rock Me Amadeus is the source of Doctor Zaius from Simpsons

I have also learnt that every single song on the One Hit Wonder playlist are also on my personal playlist anyway and have owned them one way or another.

It's kind of crazy, I recognize almost every one hit wonder song he covers, but also in the majority of cases (such as Rock Me Amadeus) I did not know who the artist was (or my assumption was wrong), and in some cases I didn't even know the title.

Now that I've seen most of his videos, I consider myself to be something of an expert on the subject of popular music, able to inappropriately insert music trivia in nearly any conversation

He is very much not white, unless he was wearing brownface the many times he's shown his skin in a video. He also lives in NYC. Not that I don't still agree with you.

That's not a big problem to me, though. The appeal of Todd is precisely that he focuses on popular music in a broad sense, rather than a specific genre. I've learned so much about songs that I never really had any interest in before. In the case of some artists he confirmed what I've basically always thought, and in other cases I've had to completely re-evaluate them.

e: also Dropkick Murphys are extremely a suburban white kid band, so that was a bit of a weird point to make (source: I listened to them as a suburban white kid)
