Log082 posted:The Pacific and Atlantic at that point are actually at different heights, though. It was just one of the many issues with a ground level canal. i looked back because i didnt even remember what started this, and it was someone asking why it's a problem that locks lose a ton of water with each cycle, saying how's that a problem? one ocean too full? its a problem because most of the canal is just an artificial lake made by damming a river. a lake that loses some of its water to the ocean every time a ship enters OR exits. the water doesn't, like, enter with the ship on one ocean and exit on the other. it flows out both sides to both oceans each time a lock cycles. so rainfall limits how many ships can transit, otherwise the locks will drain the lake

You know if they just left the locks open, the oceans would eventually even out over time and make things simple. Frickin' engineers, always overcomplicating things

Also if Boeing can't get this right I don't think I'm trusting some random Italian programming an Arduino, or whatever is going on here.

HelloIAmYourHeart posted:Is that loving duckweed???? I hate duckweed. Same, and if you're fighting the stuff, Sonar AS is spendy as hell but it loving WORKS. May of last year, after largely ignoring the problem for multiple years: It was so thick, the kids could barely paddle through it at all in their little kayaks. That clear spot in the middle was only possible from constant aeration pushing the stuff back. One treatment and two months later: The only stuff floating on the surface there is just leaf matter and such from the trees. No damage to the fish I have in there or any other aquatic life that I can tell. And since it knocked it down so effectively, I haven't had to do anything at all this year, just as clear as ever.
